Good day all… I understand how many would say, the mom needs to reach out. However, sometimes parents have to fall back and let their adult children make the decision to reach out. It’s really a delicate situation between mother and child. Parents can and will make mistakes, sometimes like in Simone’s mom situation. However, her mom is a different person from the person she was some 20 years ago. I don’t think it’s about money. Simone is grown and can make her own decisions. I think her mom just want to give her daughter the respect she deserves by waiting on her. It’s an unfortunate situation Simone and her siblings were put in due to their mom’s addiction. Deep wounds so I think Simone should be given the right to make the decision as to whether or not she wants to have that intimate sit down with her mom. Her mother should not force herself upon her daughter, especially since she took her mother rights away. Her mother probably feels she owes Simone that right. I hope I’m making sense; just speaking from a mom’s point of view who is not an addict, nor gave her children up but bc of other reasons I am giving my child the opportunity to reach out to me when she is ready to discuss certain things. First of all, Shannon needs to show some humility. She abandoned her children, which probably left deep emotional scars on their lives. I don’t think parents fail to understand how their past behavior impacts the children. It may be in the past for you but you have no idea how your current presence may trigger past trauma for the children even as adults. Which is why the dad put the distance between her and the children when they were young!
In my opinion, there was not a need to discuss this publicly. In the comments aired, there was little to no reference as to relationships she has with the other children. I can relate to Simone's being adopted by grandparents because I too was adopted & reared by grandparents. As a recovering addict that excuse gets a little old. 6 years off my doc and I don’t feel like an addict anymore and I don’t think like one anymore. My daughter is 2 and she will never know that side of me. I have compassion for addicts and alcoholics but my true compassion lies with the children that are getting pulled through their parents bs. Addiction might be a disease but it’s still a choice based disease at the end of the day. I get mad when people say it’s a disease like cancer because nobody that survives cancer would make the choice to go looking for it again. I do respect that her mom is letting Simone make the choice to contact her but she should have done this differently.

I was abandoned at birth. I was in foster care for about a month then was placed in a loving home whom adopted me at age 16. My bio mom is in and out of the picture; still not dependable. Bio moms, it is so much more than 'I'm sorry, that was my past, I can't change it, let's move forward.' Those abandoned can't change how it has impacted our lives and the pain that we have endured. Go at our pace and be understanding. You had a choice in the beginning and chose to walk away (for whatever reason); you don't get the right to make the choice of returning whenever you choose and guilt-tripping us for not responding accordingly. We are processing and trying to make one of the most difficult choices in our life 'to let the one who should have loved us the most a second chance to hurt us.'
Bless these grandparents. I think signing your child off means giving all rights up. Legally giving your children away is like not having children. Now that other people have done the work you want a relationship, especially with the most affluent one? Lady rest. These are the consequences of your choices and actions. Yes, we all have these issues in our families our loved ones on drugs and alcohol but these individuals should not be thrown under the bus like they are nobody. I don’t think parents fail to understand how their past behavior impacts the children. It may be in the past for you but you have no idea how your current presence may trigger past trauma for the children even as adults. Which is why the dad put the distance between her and the children when they were young!
In my opinion, there was not a need to discuss this publicly. In the comments aired, there was little to no reference as to relationships she has with the other children. I can relate to Simone's being adopted by grandparents because I too was adopted & reared by grandparents. As a recovering addict that excuse gets a little old. 6 years off my doc and I don’t feel like an addict anymore and I don’t think like one anymore. My daughter is 2 and she will never know that side of me. I have compassion for addicts and alcoholics but my true compassion lies with the children that are getting pulled through their parents bs. Addiction might be a disease but it’s still a choice based disease at the end of the day. I get mad when people say it’s a disease like cancer because nobody that survives cancer would make the choice to go looking for it again. Go at our pace and be understanding. We are processing and trying to make one of the most difficult choices in our life 'to let the one who should have loved us the most a second chance to hurt us.'
