Simone Biles' emotional testimony about Nassar abuse

- Olympic gymnast Simone Biles ripped the FBI and the Justice Department in Senate testimony Wednesday for how FBI agents mishandled abuse allegations brought against Larry Nassar and then made false statements in the fallout from the botched investigation.
Biles -- a winner of seven Olympic medals, as well as several world and national championships -- revealed this year that she was motivated to compete in the Tokyo Summer Olympics in part because it would force the sport to confront its shortcomings in protecting its athletes.
In her testimony Wednesday, she said that the year-long delay of the Tokyo games meant "living daily among the reminders of this story for another 365 days."
"I am a strong individual and I will persevere, but I never should have been left alone to suffer the abuse of Larry Nassar," Biles said. "And the only reason I did, was because of the failures that lie at the heart of the abuse that you are now asked to investigate."

@@ems3991 Stop knocking her for realizing that she was over stressed and putting her mind and body at risk of injury. It's better for her as an athlete to know her own limits and take measures needed to keep herself safe, than it is to continue pushing her body and emotional state to the point of not only costing herself her career, but also risking her teams overall performance by completely losing it mid routine and dropping the overall teams score by having a horrible accident mid way through a back handspring on a 4 inch wide beam.

Do you think she’s only gymnast who struggles with mental health? That’s she’s the only one facing the pressure? Every athlete there was. Also why didn’t she address those problems before the Olympics? Rather, you wait until you hit the biggest stressor of life to address them? It’s also odd that her mental health came up not when she won her other gold medals, but at time she knew she did the wrong move that would have cost her a medal. A bit suspicious.
Everyone has their problems, sympathize with that but to outright quit is not a solution nor should be congratulated. We should celebrate people who perform despite of mental health issues, those who pushed through rather than caved in. If she is indeed suffering from mental health issues pray for her, hope she gets the help she needs. But do not coddle her

As a father of a little girl, I broke when she said “how much is a little girl worth?”.. there may be no perfect way to remove predators from society, but turning a blind eye to abuse is unforgivable. God bless Simone Biles for the courage to come forward.

I had a GYN tell me after pushing his hands into my vagina that I was too tight and would hurt bad during sex and that if I didn't loosen up it would be horrible...In so many words. .I was virgin. What do you expect???? I never told my mom. It made me insecure and anxious. I still never told anyone. I feel that was way too inappropriate. I later became a L&D nurse and realize they are NOT supposed to see you ALONE behind close doors. Their mom and guardians also should be charged. I get why many don't speak out. Many won't believe and at that time many don't know abuse. But verbal is just as bad.

@@erikal1593 in her specific case, she has talked specifically about having a gymnast malady called "the twisties" be why she felt unsafe competing. She said she got up to the start line to do her vault, and had NO IDEA what she was supposed to do. And then when she carried on with it, she got "lost" in midair, not being oriented to the ground below her and where she was supposed to land. That's a good way to get yourself paralyzed or killed. She knew mentally she couldn't do it, and thank God she recognized that. So not vertigo really, but more going blank mentally on what she was supposed to be doing.

My heart broke when she started choking up or held back tears. As a survivor of a lower level, I understand her pain but I can't imagine speaking publicly about it. She is a beautiful person and deserves the best.
I was a victim of child sexual abuse. Anyway there is no "lower level" victims or survivors and no lower level predators. You might think what you survived wasn't as bad but Biles could read about Peter Scully's victims (many of whom quite literally failed to survive) and think the same thing. But it wouldn't be true. Unfortunately it seems there is no rock bottom to human depravity. It can always sink lower. One of my best friends in the world is a survivor and she told me not to discount what happened to me on her account (her abuse happened younger & over a longer period of time) because we hurt for each other. We have fought the same demons and we are sisters in this fight. God bless you. **Oh on Scully, I don't know if you have heard of him, but let me issue an extreme trigger warning if you choose to look up his cases. I really recommend against it.

That's something you should reflect on because regardless of the reason she should have been trusted and supported to make whatever decision she wanted to make. I am male, with past invoolvement in apex levels of young physical skills, with both sexes participating..I could ont IMAGINE that anyone so distorted as Nassar could ever have been countenanced for a moment, without discuiion among the affected, and IMMEDIATE sequestration of the man.
We have now seen YEARS of women seeking exposure, of Trump,, Kavanaugh, and others.
Instead of the society mandating civil behavior and protection of the young, all we have gotten was further abuse of the victims.

I'm not shocked this was covered up for so many years. I'm a former gymnast and it's a very abusive setting for young girls. I developed an eating disorder and suicidal thoughts because of the verbal abuse and threats by my coaches.

The mere fact that she says that she's a survivor is mind boggling. How do you survive that. Throughout the world human justice has failed us on this issue but guess what...call it karma or whatever. It's coming to those responsible whether they're the perpetrators, the FBI or the judicial system. This has been happening for far too long. It's about time that things be put in place to protect our women and children.

As if only street thugs and gangsters plan crimes involving more than one person. Of course powerful people take advantage of their situation to plan crimes together. Many girls were abused by coaches as well as by Nassar. Abuse was part and parcel of girls gymnastics and make no doubt it was girls gymnastics not women's gymnastics like it should have been. We shouldn't be sacrificing our children on the Olympic alter. Metals just aren't worth it.

I just want to hug all these brave young women. They are our sports hero, we applauded, rooted, cheered them on as they performed, while internally carrying the weight of being sexually abused. We failed them...miserably. Stop settling for just locking the monster up, get those who enabled and protected the monster...it all has to be brought down to begin to heal.

Also for her to step up and speak out about this shows how strong she is. This isn’t just about her but all the women that is going to come in behind her and that speaks volumes!

After physical bullying I developed severe anger issues, for the next 3 years of my life I kept fighting against myself in my head that I was eating shit during every meal. While eating tomato or chilli sauce I fought against myself in my head that I was eating menstrual period blood. During EVERY single second of those 3 years I also kept fighting against myself in my head that the bullies were sodomizing me and my family members. As a result I severely couldn't concentrate during exams and classes.
I am still having self esteem issues 14 years on from the incident.
I went to army and didn't do some admin work due to fighting myself in my head and army people thought I was lazy and thus bullied me as well.
This is why I have zero sympathies and zero tolerance for bullies. I am 31 years old and don't even have a wife now, partly sabotaged due to bullying. I have also missed out on $260,000++ of opportunity cost in earnings from jobs. I went to teach the bullies a lesson by cyberbullying/harassing them online, the bullies were so "strong" until they went to call the police LOL, but like I mentioned above, I have zero regrets :)
I want to see a public hearing holding these enablers accountable.
