Sukhoi Su-27 | Ghost of Kiev Returns | Model Aircraft #3

- Okay, so the Ghost of Kiev (Kyiv) was confirmed to be a myth, a symbol of the Ukrainian fight against Russian adversaries but that still didn't stop master modeler Rabin Thaver from building GWH's 1/48 Su-27P1M in the striking digital livery of Blue 39 and thus bringing Ukraine's Ghost to life in scale.
The kit used was a 1/48 Great Wall Hobby's (GWH) Su-27 'Flanker B' Heavy Fighter (No. L4824).
Foxbot decals and masks (48-047A) were used to achieve the digital effect, in addition to Galaxy masks for generic masking.

Bravo! I am currently building GWH UB kit with last gen splinter camo of Ukrainian AF. Good lord, the masking (there was no premade masks online for splinter camo) and decaling is finished for me, now the weathering awaits. I almost killed myself but gained so much patience and respect for people like you who do this at such a high level. Well done!

Dude, Stunning!! Well done Rabin. That was a master class in how to do this style justice. I can see the patience and planning needed. I have the 72nd ICM-29 GoK, and just picked up the GWH 48th scale Su-27UBM GoK limited edition. Really wanted to do them both in the camo masks, and now have a perfect example of how to get it right. Do you remember which galaxy mask set you used? I have the foxbot set but it doesn’t have any of the engine or intake masks.
Sure! 'Sukhoi SU-27 Flanker-B Heavy Fighter die cut flexible mask For GWH L4824' was the set used.

Thank you! A build up of Mr.Color clear was used to get the desired sheen.
I see you paint, wash and gloss the high details on the smaller parts on the sprue before you assemble, does the glue not effect the gloss and paint?
It can, it's just a technique Rabin uses that must be done with care and cannot always be used.

But one piece of constructive criticism: do some very light weathering in the form of a micro wash just to accentuate the panel lines. As the model is smaller than the original, it doesn't reflect as much light as the original. Thus it doesn't have the same depth in colors as the original by default. So it improves the apperance if you do slight washings even if you depict a "clean" original.
As reference: I did plastic modelling for 25 years but had to give it up. Used to refuse "over intense" for years before understanding that they make sense. 🙃
