Stories from a WWII P-40 Pilot | #9
The Fighter Pilot Professor
A very unique interview with a WWII fighter pilot named De Lamar Jensen.
Dee Jensen flew several hundred hours as an AT-6 flight instructor during WWII. He piloted a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. He shares some incredible career stories in this interview we were grateful to conduct, such as surviving an engine failure in a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, some close calls instructing on the North American AT-6, flying as a flight engineer on the Boeing B-29, and also post-war flying adventures such as being an agricultural pilot on the Piper J-3 Cub, owning a Fairchild PT-19, and briefly flying with the Guatemalan Air Force.

A profound interview with a WWII fighter pilot named Ed Cottrell. Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell flew several dozen combat missions in WWII, piloting a Republic P-47D Thunderbolt. He shares some incredible career stories in this interview we were grateful to conduct, such as fighting against the Luftwaffe, narrowly surviving several harrowing encounters, and providing close air support to the troops on ...

Hello, I am currently building that. What colors did you use for the top camo pattern. Thank you 🙏
I can ask Tom, in the meantime, that answer might be in the full video. Check it out if you can.
Idk if this man is still around.. probably not.god bless him and he is correct WAR IS TERRIBLE
Actually he's still with us. You'll see in our other episodes if the interviewee passes away, we will put it in the description.
...get that pig of the ground....*LOL*
The nose gear actuator had an internal lock in the up position. When the lock failed to open the nose gear wouldn't extend on landing. I watched the noses of several of them get scraped off while I was stationed at Bien Hoa AB '67-'68.
Thanks for sharing this! What did you do in the service?
@@flightlinemedia I was a hydraulics and pneumatics mechanic. We changed out the nose actuator when those incidents occurred. I should add that those nose scraping landings didn't do the radar antenna any good.
@@garyglendenning1695 Sounds like you have a very interesting story too. If you're interested in a potential interview, please email info@flightlinemedia. co (not .com). Thanks!
This is next level art. Incredible! No words needed :) huge respect from germany! :)
Thank you! Ich freue mich, dass dir das Video gefallen hat.
Thank you, Dr Jensen for this interview. It really shows in detail the thoughts and actions you took in your successful military pilot career. That you then got a PhD, taught history and are an accomplished artist speaks to your dedication and talent. Thank you, Sir, for your life of service and accomplishment.
Thanks for watching! Excellent comments from an SR-71 pilot, for those who may not be aware.
Thank you for your Service Sir
I'll be sure to pass this along to Bill.
They are a very pretty bird. I've seen one up close at a museum. But ya, the visibility would a problem.
So true! We have an unreleased interview of an F-106 pilot however, and he thinks the world of it. Not as much love for the F-102 it seems haha.
Hello. You did a very, very good job, very beautifull. But I have t tell you something. I´m spanish and i tell you for sure that this blue isn´t accurate to the color of the spanish naval air wind, those days, not nearly. It was so dark. The blue you must use is dark prussian blue, Vallejo paint. Your work it´s more than the last two remainig helicopters, in fact one that is exposed in the entrance of a naval base in Spain, and is decolorated by the sun. You can find it searching in internet, or the book "AH1 cobra" serie aeronaval, Ikonos press publiser. SOrry, and thank you
Thank you for your input! I appreciate you taking the time to watch this video and share your insights. : )
Great work FLM!
Thank you so much!
Great interview. I'm sure he has many more stories to tell. Thank you for sharing
Thanks! He did actually, but we had to wrap it up since we filmed multiple people that day. One he wished he would have told is that he calls his back seater every Bastogne Day since that's when they shot down the MiG-21. We interviewed the back seater, Duane Buttell, who also became a very accomplished fighter pilot. We just haven't released the interview yet. These things take so long to edit. Worth it though. Check out our either episodes if you get a chance. We have many more to come.
@flightlinemedia awesome! Looking forward to it
Good stuff.
Thanks for watching!
very interesting insight
Glad you liked it! We felt the same.
Very true, America was more United than it is now. I salute you due thank you for your service!
Thanks for watching!
Outstanding!
Glad you like it! Thanks.
Dee told us he'd love emails from the audience. If you'd like to send him an email, feel free: Dlmrjensen@gmail . com
Great interview! Thanks for sharing.
Jensen is a good solid name 😃
No doubt haha.
Been. A. Good. Name. In. Speakers. Since. I. Can. Think. Of Back. To. The. 70.s. at. Least...
What does he mean by T bird????? T6???? 😳
He means the Lockheed T-33 'Shooting Star,' essentially a two-seat F-80. It was called the T-Bird by pilots and personnel.
@@flightlinemedia Thanks for your response
Way to go mom
That was an unexpected ending haha.
Haha! True.
Fun story Bill! I feel bad for the people whose tents you guys knocked down though hahaha.
Дякую❤ дуже круто💪🏻 завжди приємно бачити ваші роботи! Привіт з України 🇺🇦
Thanks for watching! : )
Wonderful!
Glad you liked it!
Now that my jaw is back to its normal position....took a while since it was on floor since just after the video started....WOW!! If you were to build a realistic scale diorama to put this in, then take it outside snd photograph it at the proper angles, you could pass this off as a photo of the actual plane....noone would ever be able to tell the difference.
Appreciate your comments! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Gold! Thank you very much:-)
Glad you liked it haha. Looks like our next upload will be about flying the F-102.
@@flightlinemedia I like the old timers stories, told by themselves:-) Btw...Some of your videos are missing:-(
@@NielsenDK-1 they should all be up now. We love old timer stories too. We have a full length interview of a P-40 pilot we're releasing very soon. : D
@@flightlinemedia Must have been RUclips woodoo😂 I"m looking forward to both the Delta Dagger and P-40👍🏼🍻😃
Even though I am a Marine grunt that served in the early to mid 2000’s. I have always loved this airplane for some reason. It’s just so big and so fast compared to the Soviet era planes they were up against in Vietnam. My favorite aircraft is the F4U Corsair from WW2. I loved watching the old Black Sheep television show from the old days. Pappy Boyington was such a hero to me personally. I was never smart enough to be a Naval Aviator, but as an infantrymen I definitely slept better at night knowing we had people out there watching over us, especially Marine Aviators that are experts in the art of CAS. I know I’ve made fun of “wingers” while I served. As they made fun of us grunts. But we all respected each other and none of us would ever do something to let another Marine down. No matter what their MOS is.
4 years..
Got to ask, were you a crew dog on an F4? Because you nailed the grime/wear to the tee on one. I was a booger hooker on F4G Wild Weasels....
Was not, but appreciate the words! How long did you work on the Weasels?
4 years..
Whelp... that's the best I've seen.
I would love to know how long Karim spent on this. I assume it was months?
I recall it was around 8 months. But he is a full-time airline pilot and a dad too.
This guys is hilarious
Really cool models! I’m just a beginner and I am actually doing this kit myself (the spitfire) anyway. But I am wondering if you wouldn’t mind telling me what size riveting tool you have used to create the rivets, on the model?
Glad you liked the episode! I sent this question to Tom and he said "Fun question..But as I remember those models are riveted in factory. If I was use some tool for recreating some of the rivets it was 0.2 or 0.3mm."
Wow. Amazing fellow.
I Salute every damn one of these guys who had to serve in ANY conflict's, especially the Vietnam and WW2 guys. Every last one of them Fallen or who made it back from such hell on earth. The mental issue's that war cause's it just horrible. We need to support our Vets 🪖in any way we can, 👀💯 Why we have Veteran's living on the streets homeless is just pathetic.🤬😡🤬 God Bless All VETERAN'S 🪖 AND SERVICEMEN and God Bless the U.S.A. 🙏🙏🙏 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 TRUMP/VANCE 2024 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Is that the jet called a SABRE ???
The F-86 was the Sabre, the F-100 was the Super Sabre, and the F-107 was informally the Ultra Sabre, even though it was never produced in quantity. The F-84F that you see in the video is a Thunderstreak. The straight wing version built prior is known as the Thunderjet.
@flightlinemedia Thank you for that. !!!
@flightlinemedia, You know your aircraft, sir 😊
Damn amazing plane it was
We got the impression Swede wouldn't have wanted to take this into battle. But I'm sure it was fun to fly.
