- Andrew Horton builds a 1/48 Tamiya Bf 109G-6-all opened up! He opens up the cowling, gun pods, canopy and radio compartment on an Erla-built Bf 109G-6/R6. Bf-109s were built out of numerous factories (such as Regensburg, W.N.F. and Erla). Andrew liked the scheme and uniqueness the Erla 109 sported.
This Bf 109 is built as if it is undergoing maintenance functions in numerous locations at once.

Thanks for not weathering this beauty too much!
You're welcome! The real Bf-109s had some gnarly exhaust stains, but were often cleaned after a sortie. A clean surface meant less parasitic drag.
Great build. I won best of show back in 1986 at the IPMA Regional in Hopkinsville, KY with my Airfix 1/24 scale detail build of Major Anton Hackl's Fw-190A6. I used liquid glass for the instrument panel lenses, you could read them all. Good work Andrew.
Thank you Colin! I didn't know you were a modeler. Very cool. I'd love to see the Fw-190 some time.
@@flightlinemedia Gave it to my son'd godfather, it has not survived the years.
Andrew that really looks great. !! I have two of those to build myself !!
Thanks for watching. They're outstanding kits. I love how the landing gear assembly and alignment is completely trouble free.
Great build. Love the way you tackled the resin and Engine. All in all a lovely build.
Thank you!
Beautiful build, although it seems to take forever to complete, your efforts are definatly worth all the time. Well done!!!
Thank you Stacy! These videos make it totally worth it. : )
Excellent build, very well done! I have never heard of adding CA glue over the top of sanded Mr. Surfacer, will definitely give that one a try.
Thanks Frank. Glad you enjoyed it.
You have the patience of a saint. Starting my G /6 today .It will definitely not be the same amazing standard as yours .
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching. What G-6 kit are you building?
Bf 109 G-6 kit no 117 with open engine cover
Nice job!
Thanks David!
This is Model Assembly on a whole n'other level. Wow!
I always wondered how come some peoples models were infinitely more detailed than any kit I had ever seen... Haha.
Glad you liked it. It sure took a long time to build haha.
Very good work!...
Thanks for watching!
Two thumbs up, very well done sir.
Thank you! Much appreciated. More to come. : )
Excellent work, subscribed 👍
Thank you! Much appreciated. : )
Great build and excellent paint job!!
Thank you! It took a long time but looking back it was a lot of fun. If I had to do it over, I would have used MRP instead of TCP to avoid peeling.
Wow! Eight month build. She's a beauty!
Thanks! I guess that's what happens when you're rarely home due to work haha.
Cool!🤗 I'm gonna do an open engine bay on the Ki-61 kit which likewise come with a good starting point at least...
Really cool. Send pics to our Facebook page when you finish. Ki-61 is a very cool subject.
Inspiring work, well done!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. Now I'm just debating on what to open up for the next time haha.
Great job ,
Thank you! Glad you liked it. More to come. : )
Tremendous work, thankyou for sharing 👏
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
well done
Thank you!
Nice job! And 8 months!
Thanks! That was mostly due to being away for work haha. I'm almost two years into my next video project haha.
Fantastic build! I’m building the same kit and bought the same aftermarket additions you have in your video. I’ll use this video as inspiration and guide for my build. I subscribed too!
Thank you! When you're finished with it, we would love to see photos. Feel free to send some over to us on our Facebook page.
@@flightlinemedia, be sure I will! It will take time, though, as it’s a hell of a build, especially the engine, as you very well know. You have a cool channel. I look forward to more videos. I’m a plastic scale modeler and also gunpla modeler from Italy. Ciao!
Hello!! Thanks for this video! About the model, of course it is a very good build. I loved the detailing on the engine. I love airplanes, and other machines, but unlike you, I am nota a ''master starting projects''... I simply do not start them at all!! That's it, in 99% of the cases!! I am not an english speaking man, but your way of speaking is quite clear to me! Thank you!! I will see your other projects to inspire me on starting (and maybe finishing) mines too...
Thank you Pedro! : ) What do you intend to start next?
Sehr gut, das ist schön!
I love the 109. Your airbrush work on the mottling looks impecible. Do you just use low air pressure, thin paint, and spray very close to the model, or are there other tricks you use?
Vielen dank! I used TCP for the build and thinned it with MLT. I sprayed at 12 psi if I recall correctly. I sprayed close to the model. The different factories that produced the 109 had different mottling, so each factory would require a different technique. The Erla mottling requires a steady hand, but honestly is straightforward. If I were to do it again, I would use MRP RLM colors. With MRP, no thinning is usually needed. I guess my big trick was to practice the airbrush technique on a piece of paper or a test piece before committing to the actual plane.
Amazing video! What PSI are you using on the compressor when doing very fine details with the airbrush, and what needle size are you using; presumably 0.15? keep up the great work!
About 15 - 18 psi. In hindsight though, I would much prefer MRP over Tru Color Paint to be honest.
Excellent result I've got exactly the same parts for an G -10 I've started in the engine for the last 12 months 😂😂😂😂 but ill put her together eventually
I totally understand. Opening everything up pretty much triples the build time. Maybe even quadruples it haha.
How did you paint the spinner swirl? I am painting a g- 6 Trop 1/72 .I am going crazy here!
Great question. I used Eduard's kabuki masks. You can see them applied earlier in the video. I prefer this to decaling them. However, decals can work too.
If your using Mr surfacer as a filler.you dont have to sand it smooth, soak a cotton bud but in Mr thinners and just wipe the excess off.
Thanks for the tip. In my experience though, it shrinks over time so regardless I like to top it off with a thin layer of CA.
Tamiya
Really great build. But what’s with the music? Quite unecessary and imho a bit annoying.
Thanks for the compliment. A lot of work into the build. What type of music would you have preferred?
@@flightlinemedia Well, something calm to match the zen of watching a build. Or maybe nothing at all? 😊
@@db605 Thank you for the suggestion! Much appreciated.
....ооооотлично!.....
Thank you for your support.
In my opinion the engine covers look too thick...Even Tamiya has a problem with that.
So true. They would be see-through in 1/48 if they were to scale haha.
@@flightlinemedia Just thinner enough to look more realistic !
@@FLEKKECOOK Yeah, beyond me to thin that part. You'd have to start with new parts and take it up with Eduard.
Nice work, but the movie is more a teaser than else and horrible music.
Thanks for the compliment. To each his own on the music I suppose. I kind of liked haha.
