Final instructional time lapse video of the painting and weathering of the 1/72 scale Sukhoi Su-33 (Cy-33) Flanker D Scale Model Aircraft by Trumpeter as shown by The Inner Nerd
The first part of this video shows the use of Photo etch parts and scratch building techniques to detail hydraulic pipes and electrical cables professionally and cheaply around both the cockpit and wheel bays.
The second part shows surface preparation techniques such as filling panel gaps and seams with modelling filler and sanding them smooth to get a seamless join between parts. Also basing techniques are included in this section using Mr Hobby "Mr Surfacer 1200 & 1500" to prime the surface ready for painting. The third part of the video demonstrates the painting of the 3 tone camouflage. Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline is used at an operating pressure of 15PSI and a 0.15mm needle + nozzle during this process. Also included in this section is the jet exhaust painting using Alclad 2 Lacquers and Tamiya clear paints to create a burnt metal effect Decals follow painting with the aid of Mr Hobby Mr Mark Setter & Softer products. These products allow the decal to form to the shapes and panel lines of the surface which you can see in the video.
Next is the weathering of the model. This is started using Abteilung 502 oil paints thinned to a wash consistency. Then used as panel line wash the oil is applied across the model to achieve a dirty, grimey & worn look.
The final part of the video explains the final assembly of small parts including landing gear, lights, antennas and canopy fitment as the model nears completion. All final assembly is completed with CA superglue.

Great work, funny thing is though the weapon load you've depicted would stop the aircraft taking off from a carrier with more than half fuel. Lack of catapults and the short deck on the Admiral Kuznetzov stops the SU33s carrying decent ordnance or they won't get airborne.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHOWING THE COLORS YOU USED!!! I have all but 3 of the Tamiya colors. I was going a bit crazy trying to find the right colors for a SU-27 and 33 and all I could find were people recommending to buy other paint brands, other colors, or that you had to mix the colors but not tell you how. I found one other video with the Su-33 Ammo MIG paint colors and even then they mixed those with others because they didn't look quite right. I don't want to keep buying more, just learning to mix my own colors.
Your work is amazing. I do have to say I was on pins and needles and would even look away when you peeled the masking tape off cause I was half expecting paint to come off too!
