    I'm glad people are finally realizing how good Silky saws are, I've been using my SIlky big boy 2000 for years, they are incredible. Did a review on it a few months back, there are many different size options unlike the laplander, I prefer the longer blades as its a real power house.

    Very nice review! Thank you very much for that! Silky saws are very popular amongst arborists and tree surgeons which is great. But at the same time we are working very hard to gain more and more Silky fans amongst bushcrafters, survivalists etc. This review really helps a lot! Please allways remember that Silky saws only work while cutting on the pull stroke. Keep up the good work Living Survival! Team Silky Europe

    I recently heard of Silky saws... I bought a BigBoy and took it out on a backpacking trip and I love it. My buddy and I have bought many different saws, Sawvivor, buck saw, fiskar bow saw, etc
    None of those compare to a Silky... I will be purchasing a GomBoy now that I feel the difference from the others... Not too mention Silky saws are pull saws, with timed reviews against other saws that are push/pull, still close on strokes and time... Almost effortless... Thank You for taking the time for the review...

    The silky is meant to cut on the pull not on the push. It would have cut easier and faster had you used it that way. The blade is tapered from the teeth to the backbone (thicker at the teeth) so that it doesnt bind as it gets deeper into the wood. I made a canvas sheath for mine with a pocket for spare or different blades.

      ubb4me Thanks for the tip, I have since learned this :)

    • @dennisleighton2812
      @dennisleighton2812 Год назад

      Absolutely! It's also a good idea to cut horizontally, instead of down, as one would with a carpenters saw (or a Laplander). They are made for it: a Silky is not.
      Your comment about having to work "harder" - a Silky works better with slower, more deliberate pull strokes, and then an even slower, lifting return stroke. This is important to clear the kerf of sawdust. Cutting with the blade pointing downwards causes one to put too much downwards pressure on the return stroke. This jams the sawdust between the teeth, where it builds up and can lead to binding and the blade snapping.
      Sorry if this sounds like I'm preaching to the converted, but it's more aimed at the comments made in the video.
      Where I live on a large parkland (it's a School) we have a permanently employed arborist on site, and we chat a lot, and he explained this to me. He has a Silky he's used for many years and still going strong. However, he cuts green wood only as part of his job.

    Just got mine off Amazon...same model...and used it today. Am used to Japanese pull saws for cabinet work, so using is no problem...definitely less work and faster cutting than the laplander...all due to superior tooth design.

    I got this exact same gomboy last summer. Still haven't used it yet. Hopefully this summer. Looks like it saws through wood like butter. I feel a little more confident in my purchase seeing it in action.

    Oh yes SIR! Silky is the bomb. I carry a Zubat 330 for work and I have a Gomboy and Pocketboy for recreational activities. Great product indeed. So far my Zubat has given me 3 kisses, twice above my right knee after a casual follow through and once for about 9 stitches in my hand after a careless cut. Didn't know they made left handed models ;-)

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  9 лет назад

      Ouch! Yes I forgot to mention that but love that the lock is on top so its 100% ambi.

  • @EarlyMist
    @EarlyMist 9 лет назад +2

    I use a Silky Super Accel 210 which I think is a fairer comparison to the Laplander given they are both in the same weight and length category. The 210 definitely cuts not only a bit faster but the cuts are also very clean. The clean cuts factor matters mostly to Arborists, Horticulturalists, Tree Surgeons etc and not necessarily to the average hiker, bushcrafter, gardener. The Bacho lock on the closed blade is very handy for pack stowing without added sheath weight. If I stow my Silky...Ranger Band stops it opening...no problems.
    Laplander and 210 = awesome saws both. Lap wins on price (bigtime) and blade lock. Silky wins on faster cutting (always pull cut only with both saws..that is how they are designed) and lovely clean cuts. You can see that in this vid. Lappy leaves indentations. Only matters if you want a tree limb to heal more efficiently and cleanly i.e Arborists, Tree Surgeons etc.

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  9 лет назад

      This wasn't really a comparison, more just an alternative. The Gomboy wouldn't open even without the lock so not worried there. Great information, thanks for the comment.

      The lap is currently $3 less than the Super 210. I just ordered the 210, can not wait. I am blown away by the performance of these saws already.

      Silky is nicer IMO and if you want one smaller like the laplander (190mm) you can get the gomboy 210 or the pocketboys come in 130 or 170. The 240 is supreme though!

    Being a landscaper I just karate chop all the wood; it's cheaper than buying a saw and no rust! (done the rust test by sticking my hands in a bucket of salty water, then rubbing them in fresh herbs,egg,breadcrumbs & baking for 20 minutes on 250°C -no rust, how about that!Ha)

    I'm wondering how this would compare to a decent hatchet or a small axe. Hatchets can also be used to split timber and so when space it a premium in a camping vehicle, it's something to consider don't you think?

    I would luv to see tge Silky Gumbo square off with tge Wicked Tough Saw made by Wicked Tree Gear, that would be awesome, that would clearly show a new champ in the Bacho Laplander size, IMO all three deserve that title, but my money is on the Wicked Tough Saw Lightweight that punches like a Heavyweight, also when building a shelter it can be carried in the open possition, finishing the job quickly you can even carry it in the opened possition, Silky makes some awesome saw's, I have tge yellow handle 2000, sick, but cutting in both direction seems like that would be the edge. There's always room for another saw in my stable, but I'm not too much in the rush with my Wicked Tough Saw, my Silky 2000 my Wooden Handle Fiskar with the Power Teeth, OH Yeah my Bob's Bow Saw, and last but not least my Corona for a delicate looking saw it's holding up, and I know it's going survive another summer season.
