    Today we got the opportunity to field test the Silky Gomboy 210.
    Silky is a Japanese saw manufacturer since 1919. With almost 100 years of experience they now produce one of the best hand saws in the world.
    Silky gomboy 210 specs:
    Multipurpose folding saw with 8-1/3-inch blade and a very smooth cutting action. This distinctive saw has earned a reputation as the finest folding saw on the market. It is a best-seller among both gardeners and woodworkers. Aggressive teeth cut with amazing speed in green or dry wood, cleanly enough for use as an installation trim saw or for a crosscut at the lumber yard. Utilizes proprietary Silky MIRAI-ME (Smooth Cutting) Technology - The Teeth of the Future! Securely textured rubber-padded handle and reliable spring-loaded blade lock make sawing safe and comfortable. It makes a superb gift and ideal for pruning as well as cutting dry, hard wood. Comes with a clear plastic hinged carrying case for storage and carrying. Made in Japan.
    The Silky GOMBOY handsaw is available in two types: folding blade and fixed blade (GOMBOY-7 series). The blades are interchangeable between GOMBOY types within the same blade length. There are four GOMBOY blade lengths: 8-1/3-inch (210 mm), 9-1/2-inch (240 mm), 10-2/3-inch (270 mm), and 11-4/5-inch (300 mm). Every blade length is available in three teeth sizes/configurations (tpi - teeth per inch): 5-6 tpi - Large/Coarse (pruning, green wood), 8.5 tpi - Medium (soft wood) and 12 tpi - Fine (hard wood).
    Technical Features
    8-1/3-inch (210 mm) blade length
    8.5 teeth per inch (10 teeth per 30 mm) teeth configuration
    0.55 pounds (240 grams) operating weight; 0.65 pounds (300 grams) weight with carrying case
    Clear plastic hinged carrying case for storage and carrying is included
    Product applications include pruning & trimming, lawn & garden, construction and ofcourse Bushcraft!
    Limited lifetime warranty against defects in material and workmanship
    About Silky:
    Um Kogyo Inc in Japan is specialised in producing handsaws since 1919. Through the years they have established a worldwide reputation for developing the best pruning saws as well as the best woodworking saws.
    With the special techniques employed and the quality of raw materials selected it’s no surprise that the saws from Silky are the preferred choice of professional users across the globe. Silky has a vast range of more than a 100 different saws with different teeth for different purposes:
    coarse teeth for wet and soft wood
    fine teeth for dry and hard wood
    Silky saws are available for a wide range of applications. Whether you’re an arborist, furniture maker, fruit grower, carpenter or a private user, Silky has a saw suited for your specific needs. Moreover, each user acknowledges the extremely fine cut and smooth work that is produced by these Japanese saws.
    Working with a Silky is different from working with a standard saw. These saws cut on the pull stroke resulting in much less vibrations and a straighter cut. By doing so you’re wasting remarkably less energy and this allows you to work longer. The super fine cut destroys up 50% less wood cells, allowing the tree to heal faster and greatly reducing the risk of unwanted fungi. Due to the special induction hardening of the teeth these saws stay sharp much longer while maintaining unparalleled flexibility.

    Hallo jongens, bedankt voor de mooie video's!
    I own a Silky Bigboy myself (great saw) and wrecked the teeth ones with a pesky hidden nail in some old lumber. 2/3th of the teeth were rounded over, wich usualy means getting a replacement blade. I found however, that with a EZE LAP diamond sharpening file kit, you can actualy resharpen the hardened teeth on a Silky quite well. Normal files will dull on a Silky blade, but with diamond there's no problem, since it sharpens everything.
    A couple of EZE LAP sharpening files are usualy less expensive than replacement blades, so perhaps usefull to keep in mind. These things run about 8 euro's a piece

    Say Heah Dutch, I Scout alot, So compact is important to me, especially when I run into some brambles or rough brush, Here in the States, Wicked Tree Gear makes the Wicked Tough Saw, I have the Combo, In the sheath I can carry it in the opened position, which is very handy when building while setting up, or just making shooting lanes, But it's a little stiffer and it doesn't bind as easy, yet I can lite chop with it, It's that tough.

    Great video but I think test should be with 2 saws with equal length blades.
    If you used 2 Silky saws with different lengths the shorter version will always finish last.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 лет назад +1

      +Craig Ruby yes this is true. The silky saw had a part with no teeth at the beginning though. The difference in cutting length between these saws is only about 1 or 2 cm. So even if you would lengthen that Henk Jan saw by 1 or 2 cm it would have definitely lost by a large margin still.
      Thanks for the comment!

  • @paulie4x1

    Say Heah M&M, Yeah, I still like my Wicked Tough Saw. But I'm trying a little different twist. I teamed up my Bokor Aparro with my Mora Garberg. I also think I'm going to add my Mora Eldris with this carry of knive. The twist is, I just got a new saw its my Agawa Canyon 21 Boreal Saw. So with these tools, I'm foregoing a Hatchet. Yeah, I got the Crazy Horse LeatgerSheath that has a compartment to carry an extra saw blade. Don't get me wrong, I like Silky Saws, Infact I have a BigBoy2000 with the Sheath. But I also found out a new Folding Saw made by EZ KUT but I haven't used mine yet but it seems very promising. Yeah, check'em out.,,.

    recommend it on bigger pieces, the katana boy is for professional use pointless since a good chainsaw is at least 10 times faster. anyways silky makes very good handsaws.

      DeathMetal242 do you want to carry a heavy ass saw out into the sticks as well as a gas can, a bar wrench, and some bar oil, spend 15 minutes prepping, then cut the tree or limb, and have to pack all that shit back? Hell to the no.

  • @DivergentDroid
    @DivergentDroid 8 лет назад

    About your review..I think you guys did a great review. Even though it's fast, I think the saw looks rather flimsy and I'd be afraid to use it. If that thing breaks on you it could put your eye out or worse. I once bought an ElChepo machete from Harbor Freight that was called a medium strength. Your Silky looks about a flimsy as my garbage machete. I understand they have other models, 240/300 etc.. perhaps a larger model will be sturdier. .

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 лет назад +1

      +Divergent Droid thank you for commenting. Mmm, the flexibility of the saw is like this on purpose. If you are not used to all pull saw it has some getting used to and you should be careful. However, The flexibility is there to prevent the saw blade from shattering. If they would harden that saw blade to the same hardness as the teeth it would be like glass. The hardened teeth guaranty a long lasting sharpness of the teeth. If they made the saw blade thicker as this it would be able to cut as fast and easy as it can saw now.
      btw. the traditional machete is flimsy and thin so it wouldn't break and would be easy to pull out of the wood / chip of pieces of wood. Now we all like the thick machetes where we can baton on.

      leuk! ja in het openbare groen mag je niet zomaar vuur maken zonder vuurschaal. ook moet je oppassen waar je een mes draagt. maar als je een mes draagt als je in het bos bezig bent met Bushcraft is het geen probleem.

      They just got comfortable in front of the camera/subscribers, kinda like how you act different after you get comfortable with a girl, you go from being embarrassed to fart around her to farting & covering her head with the sheets. lol
