thanks mate!
Dutch Bushcraft Knives piu
That was a massive carrot!
OldieBones that's what she said
Ivo De Smedt omg that's what I was going to say
OldieBones it was dildo
OldieBones i feel like it was a sweet potato
OldieBones, I think what the Dutch call it is a Winter Penis.
"the longer shaft compensates for the smaller head"
same.
I am 54 years old, live in Ohio, U.S.A., and I have this particular Axe. It's one of my favorites. But, recently, I have found a NEW favorite. It's an American made Axe. The name of the company is: "Council Tool", their in North Carolina. Their top end Axes are called "Velvicut".......second to none! Right now, their the Hottest Axe company on the planet. Period! -Stephen, Ohio U.S.A.
@Gary Dodgson I've a couple Council tools, all made in Waccamaw NC, nothing like what you pontificate. Really love their 2.5 and 4 lb axes. Great hookaroon too. Council makes various tools for forest fire-fighters and law-enforcement. Six-pound maul is great value. Seek truth, then speak. Nothing against China here, but not applicable here.
I got this axe as a present when I was 15. Now I have a large hole in my left leg.
Did you use the axe to fell that carrot too?!
+YesDeere13 haha hard work pays off
No it would have been too thick
The long shaft makes up for the small head. Not going to say anything.
JC!AwesomenesS! Lmao
That’s what she said!
she...
very easy to handle, if you put your hand under the head like this.
I believe this is the same axe as the husqvarna 26" multipurpose forest axe. The quality control may be less though and I dont' know that the husqvarna would be cheaper in Europe anyway, but I think it is here. Just got one. I'm just starting a video series to modify it and put it through the paces to make it do lots of different stuff. Seems like it has potential. I'm into the multipurpose axe concept. The husqvarna is longer than the gransfors, though that may not be true by the time I reseat the head down far enough.
I'm curious about how it will end up looking mate! it sounds good.
First video is uploading right now, but it's just mostly me testing the axe out of the box. I have some stuff I already don't like and will be experimenting a bit with the profile. We'll see how it turns out. I'm sure I can improve it though, at least to my way of thinking. Cheers.
Beautiful axe :) I own the H009 model (900g head, 50 cm handle) and truly love it. It can be used with one or two hands, big enough to split firewood and fell some medium size trees, yet it is small enough to fit into a backpack. And most importantly, it is not as expensive as the classic line or the ones that Gransfors bruk makes and i am not afraid to actually use it. It is a working man tool :)
That axe is super cool. Great video. Your channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites!
+Captain Airyca thanks a lot airyca!
My face when this axe is sharper than my kitchen knives.
Jack Evans Wheres the face your showing us?
Potato Fries ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
dude seriously. My kitchen knives are pretty dull tbh
An axe is supposed to be razor sharp
Jack Evans obviously a damn axe will be sharper than some kitchen knife
Thanks for this video. An axe is a greatly underestimated woodscraft tool. Axes (or hatchets) were always considered esential by early woodsmen. You showed just some of the versatility. I believe that knives and axes should be considered together when one is choosing bushcraft tools. Oldtimers here in Montana wouldn't go out without them.
the woods can heal easily from this ... *cuts down the hole tree*
haha. that one was dead already. the one with the nots was alive though.
Dutch Bushcra
chopped trees also grow back if the roots are intact. Most of the energy of the trees are stored in the roots.
oh nice. thanks I didn't know that :)
depends on which species of tree it is actually. A pine tree would not grow back that easily if you cut it down from the trunk. Oak or maple however will just sprout new twigs again.
This was one of the first dbk videos I ever watched, and I consistently come back to it. This was a dbk masterpiece.
Now they're like a bunch of teenagers, hard to watch without cringing.
@@MrDosonhai eh I still like their new content. Mayve slightly less, but I see why theyre changing their style because they've already made so many videos on the cool, cliche bushcraft subjects
Well done. That axe would be good for larger trees as well but like you say it shines with the smaller ones.
Thanks A.J.!
Say Heah Dutch, Cheers. A while ago, I bought a 17" Hultafors Bruks Agdor Hatchet, It's a older range and was replaced with a newer range, like yours, I bought it at a closeout at a great price. The newer Hultafors Bruks have the Swedish Style with the ears to reinforce strength. Mine is more of a European Style without ears, But I really like it too. I also bought a 26" Husqvarna All Purpose Forest Axe that's actually made by Hultafors Bruks, My Agdor came out spot on, The Bevel and the wood grain was every bit as good as my G. B. But not as sharp, But it didn't take much to have it as sharp. The Swedish Steel was struck multiple times and is an outstanding Hatchet. So I figured why not get the Husqvarna, So I did, But I had to return it, At first glance, I said what a beauty, But on closer inspection, I noticed alot of glue around the eye, That didn't bother me, But looking closer, I noticed the eye was defective, This is one tool I don't take for granted, It had a piece of metal attached in tge eye where they had to specially form the axe handle too, It was a good cover up, But I still felt not sure and for an Axe, I didn't trust it, I bought it on sale at Bailey's at a sale price. I had to return it so I contacted Robert and he was very nice about it and even gave me a voucher to send it back. I exchanged it with a Ochsenkopf Axe similar in size, It's just a little bit larger, But I got the 620 H-1257 that has the Rowland Plus which is a steel plate over the eye and screwed into the handle, It has the European Style head and is made in Germany, It also has a steel sleeve to protect the handle on over strikes. I'm very familiar with Iltis Oxhead which is who makes the Ochsenkopf Axe. Years ago I had a Iltis Oxhead hanged on a 19 "White Hickory Handle and made it a House Axe. I started Baldric Carrying it and it's a great camp Axe, especially when we process alot of firewood by Axe Tapping Technique. That being said, I also just ordered my 24" Council Wood Craft Pack Axe with the heavy duty sheath and sling and this Axe became my Fav. this time of the year and Winter Weather Bush Craft trips, It's Aces, I like long hikes and scouting out new area's. It's ideal for that. I also have a G. B. Small Forest Axe which I really like too, But as you know, Their more expensive. But that House Axe is the older Iltis and painted black instead of the new yellow their using now. It has to be atleast a 2 3/4 lbs. head with a 5" thin face face. But the weight just makes short work and goes through knots like a hot knife through butter, I keep it very sharp. But as far as an all purpose axe especially when processing alot of wood and just bush crating, the Council is Aces. In warmer weather, I like to on person carry something like my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet or my WarBeast which for its weight is an excellent chopper, I also have the three Estwings even the Double Bit Hatchet which I enjoy using and I can beat on those. Thanx for a great review and Cheers, M8.
For those in North America try Canadian Outdoor Equipment Company in Ontario. They have a website. The prices are reasonable and they carry a good selection. I preordered a Gränsfors Bruks Small Forest Axe yesterday for US $118 that should be in my hands by November 1st.
haha i found there website before even looking at your comment
bought myself a small forest axe too and man they have good prices
Did you get the axe???
Prices must have gone up....
@@AllThingsZz that’s what I was thinking💀
I have a similar axe, the Hunters Axe from Hultafors, and it has served me very very very well. I can hardly believe it is so good for so little price
Your chopping technique is interesting haha although you're pretty buff so it may not matter to you
But just a tip when u swing at a tree start with one hand at the bottom and one torwards the top and as u swing the axe slide the hand towards the top all the way down to meet the bottom one. Watch some lumberjack competitions
Little light head with a not thin bit in a medium size handle is clearly not a feller. Nice video, glad to see newbies entering the axe world.
you should have at least 50k subcribers ur videos are amazing!
thanks a lot mate!
simri cruz has 200k lol
zB Matt what happens when you don’t look at the date a comment was made.
Excellent and fun review! During splitting on the stump the music was playing, you were talking and the video was in fast motion. I suddenly became all dizzy and fell out of my recliner!!! Whoa!!!
I love how he has an axe and tries to break the tree pushing
That's the video I've wanted to see! I can't believe how sharp that axe was after all that chopping.Very cool going from chopping down trees to cooking. Maarten can do it all!
Sweden + vikings = op axe
I live 10km from Hultafors, proud of what they make!
that's the biggest carrot I've seen in my life!! Godzilla-carrot!!
While chopping and splitting, keep your hands next to each other, it makes the hits so much more powerful.
thanks for the tip!
is it bad that all I cared about was the stew ._.
Rarely get to see a meal prepared with an axe, from wood to food. Well done, good show. Thanks for sharing. Texas
Thanks a lot and you are very welcome!
4:39 did you guys saw someone walking in the background
Try Fiskars (real fiskars, not knockoff ones) axes, with composite shaft :) Where i live, everyone has them, they last trough rain and bad weather, and still do the job, and you don't have to worry about breaking the handle, by missing the wood. They are not too expensive either :)
+Psyconatpr thanks for the tip mate! We'll check them out!
Psyconatpr fiskars are trash
I have a fiskars axe and hatchet. I use them for junk work like cutting roots in the ground where i may hit rocks
Fiskars are complete crap
It is easy for people to really discount the Axe today... but it is such a fantastic tool.
Saws are so excellent with modern machining and materials. Really where they have gained the most is in affordability. By being affordable enough to replace the blade often, you are always at the peak of your cutting ability. In days past they were expensive and hard to sharpen. The blade is extremely disposable, and the saw itself is mostly disposable as well.
Modern super steels are so much more capable than ever imaginable. Even older steels with modern heat treating processes have become stellar. Steels used for knives during the American frontier times would be flat dull by the time you batoned two logs. Comparing that to a 3V Bark river with a cryo heat treat is just an out of this world difference. It wouldn't even be in consideration as a primary tool.
Axes are just such a good design that still holds it's own despite all the advances in manufacturing. Yes they are improving steels and heat treat quality, but the gains are minimal because the base design is just so freaking good. You can rehandle an axehead that your grandfather used as a kid, and if it was designed well, it will still hold up admirably. If you handed that same axe on to your grandchild, you could be confident in handing them a real, working tool, and not some ancient family relic.
The axe is so effective, so affordable, and so easy to maintain. It's easy to see why it is such a classic.
+Dan Hauswald i agree completely! I find myself using it less but i still admire it. It's the only tool that hangs in my bedroom instead of the shed so i can gaze at it haha. A friend made me a custom leather sheath for the axe head. I love how rustic and axe can look.
definitely not a logger.
Don't need to be a logger when you are a absolute beast.
+Roy van der Heijden yes a beast, because only an animal would chop down a tree the way he did
Hugo Lopez I consider this as childish.
Roy van der Heijden i actually agree with huge lopez, it costs you your fire wood (talking out of experience, did bushcraft and survival myself) and i learn the right way to cut down trees at my school 😌 but then again, everyone does it his or her way
What would you say is the right way?
I have a Huskvarna axe made by Hults Bruks that is the same or very similar. Love it. If you can't afford a Gransfors small forrest axe, get this axe! I have a Gransfors wildlife hatchet and the quality is very similar.
Wist niet dat Freek Vonk een youtube kanaal heeft!
Neram Soltani goeie
Neram Soltani Nice!
Neram Soltani ik vond ook al dat hij op Freek Vonk leek
If I could have one cutting tool it would be this size of an axe. Old woodsmen knew they could do everything with them, though some things a little slower, but I would take an axe any day over having to baton my night's worth of firewood.
He looks a lot like NHL goalie Marc-Andre Fleury but a bit more muscular. 😃😃😃
You were really young back then. It is interesting how your techniques have changed and how they stayed the same. You obviously had to learn how to properly fell a tree. But, being a knife man and a knife channel that is not surprising. You guys make interesting videos. I have not seen a Non-Mickey video previously. Great video.
“The wounds are small so the tree survives” *proceeds to cut tree down
I have the Hultafors "Classic" The handle is a bit shorter. Everything you said is true about these axes. I worked mine a bit more than factory sharpness and you can shave with it.
A quick tip.
You can use an old bee's wax candle to rub down the handle with. It waterproofs and provides grip. It does change the color of the handle to a nice honey color.. ")
Nice! great tip i will try it!
65 euro how about that inflation eh
that was the best looking carrot i ever seen
I´m no expert in cutting with an axe, but it looks to me like his technique is terrible. Basically no technique, just muscle usage.
you are correct. i suck with axe techniques haha
This axe has excellent forging stamps. They'll be there for a long time.
people in Africa could have eaten those trees....!
You should make a video where you sharpen an axe to perfection!!!
American girls would love those carrots
Mateo Sanchez what has society come to😂
Hultsbruk sell off slightly less finished versions of the same axe for 1/2 the price under the Husqvarna label. they're great.
the music at 7:02 no plz do not use that
Ive got the haltaforce hunting axe and I love it
Herr Martin, Please publish your food recipes, and many thanks for a thorough and very instructive presentation. Bitte veröffentlichen sie ihre Lebensmittel Rezepte, und vielen Dank für eine sorgfältige, sehr aufschlußreich Präsentation. Sincerely, Nestor
3. Years late but awesome, more serious and knowleable, excellent axe
Hultsbruk axes are very good price for the quality. I have hultsbruk and a gransfors and i like the cheaper hultsbruk
Cool vid Bro and cool axe... Just what I'm looking for, as a birthday present for an old friend! ... and myself.... 🤗
Great video, I'm shopping for a great ax, and this look like it! Thanks
this channel is so awesome you show us how to bushceaft and cook
+Jereninja thanks a lot!
Say Heah Martin, Yeah, I have a 17"Hultafors Bruks Agdor Hatchet, it's actually one of my Fav's Bush Craft Hatchets. I bought it on a closeout when Hultafors Bruks was up-dating the Range. Yeah, It's a good one.,,.p
Say Heah Dutch, No offense, But I'm proud to be an American. I just got a 24"Council Wood Craft Pack Axe with the Heavy Duty Sheath and Sling. and yes before that I was getting by with my G. B. Small Forest Axe, But it was still lacking. But once I got my Council Axe, That all changed and It became my Fav. I did make a House Axe a while back, It's the same size as my G. B. But with a much heavier Iltis Oxhead, It's our camp Axe since it simply makes short work out of processing firewood in our cold weather trips, But I heard about the Husqvarna 26" All Purpose Forest Axe, So I bought one impressed with the price, I guess the saying you get what you pay holds true. When I got it, It looked beautiful, But on closer inspection, I noticed alot of glue around the eye and handle, That didn't bother me too much because of the price, But when the eye was defective, I said Oh Oh, injury. So I sent it back. The guy didn't want to replace it for another one, Saying I might find something wrong with a replacement, So I think he knew something, But he replaced it for a little more expensive Ochsenkopf Axe similar but a little heavier, I didn't mind because my Iltis Oxhead House Axe makes the Ochsenkopf Axe and I also got it with the Rotband Plus the OX 620 H-1257 I think this will be our new camp Axe. The Iltis Oxhead House Axe, I still will use now that I started to Baldric Carry it and how it simply destroy the wood processing, Aces. Oh, the Husqvarna is made by Hultafors Bruks, But I bought a 17" Hultafors Bruks Agdor Hatchet and when I got it. It was spot on, it only took me a very short time to have it as sharp as my Small Forest Axe.
thanks for sharing your experience mate! we keep it it mind.
Nice review, prices today are definitely higher. One axe to rule them all…
Greetings from Italy
I love a big axe I cannot lie, as my brothers in the forest cannot deny, with a swing and a whirl the chips will fly, I love a big axe I cannot lie.
Looks a lot more controllable than your typical felling axe :)
Great vid!
thanks a lot Micky!
chopping up an onion gets a whole new meaning... ;)
really cool video guys
haha thanks a lot mate!
You certainly do Get it On, nice bush craft and a very tasty looking meal too, good work and video.
Best purchase I ever made.
Thank you for your video ! You've made my choice so much easier. Was going for the Gransfors Bruks but so expensive.. the Hultafors is as good and just as sexy ! Purchased mine and still waiting for delivery and justccant wait !
A axe for food preparation?Very creative.I can say I have never seen an axe used in this way.
it was the challenge I gave myself haha, It was fun to do!
Glad to see this is an old video. Was wondering why the serious format and where Mikkie B was. Very informative but the video does not have the humor I expect from DBK. You guys have a talent for being informative and extremely entertaining at the same time. Thanks DBK!
haha thanks a lot! We evolved pretty quick the last year!
Very impressed with the size of your carrot! Enjoyed this video. I have a Husqvarna hatchet that seems pretty nice. I'm not much of a hatchet or ax guy, but I still sometimes get tempted to upgrade to one of the premium Swedish brands (Gränsfors Bruk, Hultafors, Wetterlings).
hahahaha! thanks
No problem for you young guys with all that muscle to chop apart those large logs at the start of your demonstration of the video. Even with that fine axe I don't think I could chop like that. :)
This is the best channel that I have found this month and we are just over half way through.
thanks a lot mate! we appreciate it!
Have a hultafors axe .. best axe i ever had but also cost a little more, but you also get lifetime warrenty on it. It breaks . You get a new.. that also says something about them.
I wish i had spruce or other softwood in my area. Chopping down an Ash is no easy task
My late Dad grew up in wartime Groeningen. I can't imagine him doing much bushcraft there lol. Good video, though!
wow, that is a beautiful axe. also, never even thought of that sideways splitting technique before, thanks for that.
thanks a lot Will! you are very welcome!
You make the stew prep and end product look so good, its in the middle of the night and now i'm hungry :-)
haha thanks!
a tip:
when you chop logs with axe, your upper hand stay near to the blade, than when you swing down move the hand down... u gain speed and power without enery. anyway guys i love your videos
Great review, I know I'll be getting one of these instead of a Grunsfors. Great value for money £40 here in U.K. One of my favourite knife channels.
+GD thanks a lot mate!
great knife technique! ill give you props for that.
haha thanks rayne!
Great review! I like the quality videos you guys produce. Way better than most. Extra bonus for reviewing anything Swedish. Makes me miss my home.
thanks a lot Thomas! we appreciated your kind words!
im from sweden and i love your videos.
thanks a lot!
What is your best knife of all time?
Does anybody know what size of head this is I know the Hulfators Felling axe comes in 600, 1200 and 1500 gram variants
Say Heah Martin, Yeah, I have a 17" Hultafors Bruks Agdor Trekkers Hatchet, Even though I have a Small Forest Axe, I got my Agdor on a closeout for a very good price. It's one of my Fav. Bushcraft H Hatchet. I have a couple of Axe bolsters for my hatchets, I got them from a RUclipsr that makes them, Very high quality at a reasonable prove. Just search Axe holster. Yeah, mine came out spot on. I thing they updated the range that's why I bought it at a very good price. Yeah, My Agdor holds as good of a edge retention as good as my Small Forest Axe.,,. p
Great video! Timely too. I was just coming to the conclusion that the small axe was the premier Bushcraft tool and here you are demonstrating the concept. I especially like your comments about head weight and handle length. I would also appreciate it if you considered providing the price in other currencies.
the euro and dollar aren't too far apart right now I think it would be 80 dollars but ofcourse I don't know if you can get this axe for that price outside of europe. UK is also a bit more expensive most of the time.
Thanks a lot Alan!
That carrot is GIGANTIC
Was going to buy one but after seeing that you couldn't serve your plate with it I decided against it lol! Just kidding must be a good one they're totally sold out! Great video...
There were a deal when they made them for Husqvarna, sold in states for about $70. now $150
Nice axe! Hultafors make strong tools. I have a Wetterlings and Gränsfors Bruk but I'd get one of these if I needed one, no problems whatsoever.
I have that same axe but in the hatchet form and i love it and it is so sharp
Just an fyi. That axe is sold under husqvarna as well, at a great price of around 80 CAD. Or at least it was a year ago.
great video as always congrats with 4022 subscribers 😉 myself have a granfors bruks scandinavian forest axe i have thinned a good bit and mirror polished i love it. it can fell it can split it can feather and its a rock solid tool
good job with the ediiting nice speed ups and songs
Does anyone know the difference between the Hultafors and the Husqvarna since apparantly theyre both made by Hultafors. Also the Hults Bruk is owned by Hultafors. Whats the difference with these 3? Thanks
When you are cutting 4.53 onward cut with the log against the log underneath its more efficient not in the middle or it bounces.
thanks for the tip mate!
You are welcome Im subing you guys crack me up.
That is a good tip. I started cutting trees before I was 8. You learn to maximize the strokes.
Ok mate,, I will take you two guys advice 🙏🏻, keep chopping you Dutch wood warriors ✌🏻
The food looks great and so does the axe. Thank you for sharing and take care!
I'm from newfoundland and id love to have this axe its so handy to have in the woods areas we have a lot of wet wood and it would slice threw nicely you should test it on some hardwood instead of dry wood it would really put it to the test
newfoundland Canada I forgot to add
+Ricky Mercer thanks Ricky, i Have since cut a lot of fresh oak And it slices it like butter.
I love how they say "hello people" 😂😂😂😂
The hultafors is just as good as the granfors bruks axe. Had one for 22 years good as new.
Sometimes I miss this style of video. The skits are cool but I like seeing the tools in action.
We have been thinking a lot lately. We are trying to find a way to get back to this a little more while keeping what a lot of other people like. Winter should bring less skits in my expectation as we have a lot less time to make these videos with less daylight.
Dutch Bushcraft Knives don't get me wrong, the content is still amazing. Its just that this video makes me want a hultafors and the skits just make me laugh and only show a bit of this in the conclusion. In the end I'm subscribed for you guys and will watch whatever you make and continue to support you.
+StringSlap660 thank you so much! We really appreciate it a lot
Great axe. I like my grantors brûk but I would love to try this one out. Grats on having such a nice tool.
thanks a lot! i too love my gransfors small forest axe a lot.
