16 Tons and Blackbird both feature the 4 Geoff's... Outstanding videos! Or his parent group Voice Play is amazing as well, try out The Oogie Boogie song from the Nightmare Before Christmas or My Mother Told Me for a Viking fix!
Geoff's tonal quality- throughout his entire range, which is nearly 5 octaves- is a large part of what I love most about his music. Richness is an apt description, I think. I've also heard it called very round, which makes sense in my visual-artist-brain; I've heard other basses who sound breathier or flatter (as in 2 dimensional) not filled with the depth a strong chest note should contain in their lower ranges. It's the same in his upper range; he maintains a remarkable fullness of tone all the way up the scale. Aside from his ridiculous vocal abilities, he also does his own arrangements as well as probably about half of VoicePlay's (the a cappella group he's been with since its founding in 1997), and I have a lot of admiration for the creativity displayed in those arrangements.
He's a bassy baritone, which is why he is so good at singing both high and low notes. If he was a true bass, he just wouldn't be able to sing high notes as cleanly as he does, and his low notes wouldn't need a mic or effects to be resonant.
The fullness of tone Geoff has on his lowest notes is why I enjoy his songs so much. Also, pretty sure he's a Tolkien nerd too, lol. That last verse is not from "The Hobbit" it's from The Fellowship of the Ring. Great reaction!
Geoff has one of the best bass voices, his low range stands out barr none. And he does all the voices on this song, so perfect. Thx for your reaction Molly B
Huge fan of Geoff and VP. In addition to the other suggestions, you may want to listen to VoicePlay's newest release dropped yesterday. it's a cover of "If I were a rich man" from Fiddler on the Roof" - about as far from dragons and hobbits as you can get.... but Geoff sings lead and has a jaw dropping riff at the end. From my POV, the song is just so much fun - no idea if it will be to your taste, but it's really a romp with an infectious beat. Way more fun than the original. And - Geoff. (Side note: Layne arranged the new one, and can't resist grinning at Geoff's ending. He's known for pushing Geoff to go further than Geoff thinks he can go...I'm guess that riff was one of those times.)
Geoff has such amazing talent, you cannot even begin to experience it in just one song. Hope you do more from him and/or VoicePlay in the near future. Recommend Sixteen Tons, My Mother Told Me, Country Road.
I sympathize entirely with feeling emotional over this one! My love for Tolkien + love of bass (and Geoff specifically, because he's awesome) made this just a wonderful experience of a song. I very literally teared up the first time (well, maybe the first two times) I listened to it. Took me by surprise, haha
So if this performance has your butter melting you should see his cover of “”Sixteen Tons” or maybe Voice Play’s cover of “The Oogie Boogie Man” His voice is indeed “Rich” 😎
Eberybody is surprised at a first sight because medieval vocals have been forgotten for a so long time : but love is triumphing and hits so many hearts at the end. Modernity is re-discovering what we knew in Europe during a 1000 years. A French Fan !
5:38 to 5:44, I nearly broke down. Makes me think of that last gathering and final drink before commencing that great, final journey. Reminds me of the boys of the world wars leaving their farms, towns, and neighborhoods, not knowing if they would ever be seen again.
Til Then is a song written during WW 2 from the perspective of a soldier going off to war and asking his sweetheart to wait for him. It's lovely. Another goodie is a Bill Withers song Ain't No Sunshine.
Oh Dear Child! Avi from PTX is wow, Tim from HomeFree is spectacular AND THEN there is Geoff Castillucci! He is another level in that he has a 5 octave range and can hit all the notes, but he is also a showman. Enjoy your journey.
Great reaction, Molly! I would also recommend this same song by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust (Home Free's bass). I don't know how you feel about keeping "seasonal music" within the appropriate season, but you should also check out Geoff's cover of "The Headless Horseman".
Every bit as impressive as power house vocalists belting through the entire 5th+ octave. Out of all the bass Geoff doesn't shy away from taking us on a vocal rollercoaster. Most bass are more reserved on average per song.
Yes. High an Dry is amazing! Also, he is the lead in the new song his group just released: their version of "If I were a Rich Man" and is showing off his range like a beast!
Oh my goddess!! I just discovered the version/video of this tune by Peter Hollens (featuring Tim Foust, the bass voice of Home Free) just 2 days ago and downloaded it 3x within the hour. Now this is going right next to it for a back to back loop. Actually, both versions of this song/video would make a great frame to wrap around My Mother Told Me by VoicePlay. There's two more songs, or rather performances, to react to. While Misty Mountains gives me visions of foggy wood and homage to the old gods, the other is more war/conquering song.
Molly Like others stated here, Geoff has vocal range 4 to 5 Octaves. In this video, he plays characters from Tolkien's The Hobbit: Unexpected Journey. There is a clip from Tolkien's man, Peter Jackson. As you know, he filmed Hobbit's series after completed Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Scene is Bilbo Baggins near a meeting of Gandalf and Thorin plus others singing this song. Geoff stated that low notes were from using chest. He can hit lower notes into subharmonics level such as E1. Prime example: with his mates, Voiceplay doing Oogie Boogie Man from Nightmare before Christmas. Geoff portrays Oogie Boogie Man.
First time on your channel, you have found a deep........rabbit hole. Like so many comments below, My Mother Told Me by VoicePlay, 16 tons by Geoff, oogie boogie song from the nightmare before Christmas VP, Headless Horseman by Geoff are a few starters for this emotional journey if you choose to do so. Good positive reaction, stay safe and healthy until next time.
I'm one of the people who recommended this and am very pleased that you enjoyed it. If you enjoy reading of dragons you should check out a series of books written by Anne McCaffrey. The first is Dragonflight. Although it's more SF than Fantasy the series is very well written. Cheers, Steve
You should check out some of his other stuff like 16 Tones, Blackbird or County Roads. Also his stuff with VoicePlay, the Oogie Boogie Song is a must, also My mother told me, Warriors, The little Mermaid Medley, You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch and their latest If I were a rich man/girl.
I couldn’t quite make out what you said after “Okay” at the beginning, so I’m not sure if you realized that the low note right then (after the violins and before the fourth Geoff entered) was also his voice from the one who looked like Thorin.
From a fellow Tolkien nerd I loved this so much! If you haven't listened to them you should check out Rush, they are a Canadian Prog Rock band who are also total nerds, try "Rivendell" and "The Necromancer" both based on Tolkien's work. Also Led Zeppelin does a song called "Ramble On" which is also based on Tolkien. :D Enjoy!!!
This makes me jump each time I listen to it, lots of times! You should check Geoff's version of "Sixteen Tons" (also with the 4 Geoffs) and VoicePlay's "My Mother Told ME". I hope you enjoy them both!
I loved this the first time I heard it! I keep listening to it again and again! If you haven’t seen this one yet you should check it out Teddy Swims- I Can’t Make You Love Me, it’s outstanding!
As a fan of dragons, I really love that tattoo. I also have the one known as the Wyrm on my right arm in the same place and a Chinese dragon on the back of the same shoulder. Although I would question your love for the Lord of the Rings stories, you should have recognised the song that the DWARVES sang in the home of Frodo about the never ending search for their ancestral home. Therefore, Geoff wasn't dressed as Hobbits, they were the group of Dwarves who visited the home of Frodo.
Geoff is a god voice play my mother told me. A Viking shanty and Geoff shows off more low notes. And oogy boogy from night before Christmas you will bassgasom love your show welcome to the v.p. family
For another recommendation for one of many Geoff Castellicci's videos, Voiceplay did The Little Mermaid Medley, it's good, fun, and shows a side of Geoff you won't see often.
forgot two... another solo effort of Geoff's, the Headless Horseman. Then there's Voiceplay's My Mother Told Me... The costuming is Great in this one as well.
Sixteen Tons, Blackbird, Oogie Boogie, High and Dry, and many other more both Geoff and his group, VoicePlay, has made recently are all sogood you should listen to those at least once in your lifetime. Personally, the most recent cover song they released that I truly impressed is "My Mother Told Me"
If you enjoy these bass singer covers, I'd highly recommend checking out some of the content from Tomi P. He's nowhere near as well known as an industry standard like Geoff, but he's pretty incredible. His cover of Hellfire from the hunchback of notre dame is outstanding. He has a vocal range of F0 to F6 and knows how to use it. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/3-l23zWvSsM/видео.html
Tim is the best. Geoff is awesome but Tim's tone is unbelievable. I would like to see them do a song together though. Tim and Avi laid it down with ring of fire.
16 Tons and Blackbird both feature the 4 Geoff's... Outstanding videos! Or his parent group Voice Play is amazing as well, try out The Oogie Boogie song from the Nightmare Before Christmas or My Mother Told Me for a Viking fix!
There are also four Geoffs in his cover of The Headless Horseman. :)
He also did Bare Necessity with 5 Geoffs....
@@heathervona7883 Which was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! :)
Big Bad John and Ain't No Sunshine have just been added to the "Geofftones" gems list.

He has also helped arrange one or two of Home Free's videos as has Layne Stein (Voiceplay's vocal percussionist). ... Guy
He's a bassy baritone, which is why he is so good at singing both high and low notes.

Some call his voice smooth. I think the idea of it being like a warm blanket is frequently appropriate too. It's just beautiful. Lovely reaction.
“I was not expecting those notes to come out of a human being.” That’s because Geoff is part dragon.
His Blackbird and High and Dry are pretty good too. If you would like to listen to something with both his highs and lows.
That moment you realized Geoff has a dragon living in his chest. 🤣
Geoff has such amazing talent, you cannot even begin to experience it in just one song. Hope you do more from him and/or VoicePlay in the near future. Recommend Sixteen Tons, My Mother Told Me, Country Road.
Can I just suggest my mother told me by voiceplay who Geoff is a bass of lol great reaction! Just is for sure my favourite bass out there!

Yes, you definitely should check out Voiceplay🤗
So if this performance has your butter melting you should see his cover of “”Sixteen Tons” or maybe Voice Play’s cover of “The Oogie Boogie Man” His voice is indeed “Rich” 😎
SKYRIM DRAGONBORN from the game of the same name sang by voiceplay
That is one of my favorites by Voice Play. They are a total package.
Eberybody is surprised at a first sight because medieval vocals have been forgotten for a so long time : but love is triumphing and hits so many hearts at the end. Modernity is re-discovering what we knew in Europe during a 1000 years. A French Fan !

best part of the song.
I've listened to this version of Misty Mountain many many times and I LOVE IT!!! It moves me and I believe Geoff is very talented

You might also like Peter Hollens and Tim Faust (from Home Free) singing this same song. It is different, but also awesome.
High singing is heard by the ears...bass singing is heard by the body.
Check out his group Voiceplay and their newly released cover of “Rich Man”! Most excellent!
As a tenor I am humbled , he doesn't get high enough for me to match the notes he's singing .
Every bit as impressive as power house vocalists belting through the entire 5th+ octave.

I like both versions, I hope you will too. 👍🍻😀

No, no, rich works. I definitely get a "chocolate-coated bar of gold" kind of vibe from that voice...

16 tons is amazing. should definitely listen
Check out Voiceplay doing The Little Mermaid medley, and their Moana medley, you’ll love it. He was dressed up as the dwarves, not the Hobbits.
And the Geoff on the far left was going for the Thorin Oakenshield look ...
The deep sound coming out of him sounds like it came out of a large dragon !
