That’s so horrible. They certainly aren’t following the law here. They need to have someone come in and educate the entire staff it sounds like. Obviously you didn't watch the video cause there is no such thing as id's for service dogs. There's only scam websites that offer such ids which looks official but means nothing as the ada law doesn't require service dog to have an id. I guarantee that if a service dog handler has such "id" for there "service dog" 99.9% the time the dog is a fake which is a federal offense in the state I'm in

But service dogs have so much responsibility and it’s incredible how they can detect the onset of medical episodes or help their owners through everyday life. Every place I work I guarantee I will make sure that they are educated on ADA laws, specifically service animals. All employees should be required to know these laws, and they are very simple and not difficult to understand.
Anyway… after my long rant, I just wanted to let you know that you truly are educating so many people. Me being one of them. Thank you so much for being willing to share these unfortunate experiences so people like me can learn more about ADA laws.

""papers" your are asking for something that is illegal, unless necessary for and/if shown, only shown for court purposes or absolute emergencies for some weird odd reason &that is not at this time. So thats when they are shown&again thats only their training, their special task training for....etc." ....and its true😁😉...we wouldnt show that unless for emergencies or in court/legal purposes...so thats "the script" ive kinda been using lately and it's kind of actually REALLY been helping/working, at least in my local areas (the 2 different counties i travel throughout)...I still do the cards and everything too+verbal education and I found this really cool and cute rainbow Service dog scan code card that goes right to the ADA law cite-found on Etsy😉🥰

Granted the manager was educated and respectful but what you went through for the 30 minutes before you were able to talk to him was unacceptable in addition to the previous visits.

Several of my SD teams have had this same issue. One recently with PD who told her he didn’t need to see her ADA law card because he knew the law. Told her if she didn’t leave the Subway sandwich shop as it is private property ( he was educated that if a private property serves the public they cannot deny SD teams access) he would arrest her. This was the same cop that when he walked in the shop after being called by the employee, asked what the issue was to which she said she refuses to serve me because I have a service dog. The cop said what serve dog? The dog was under the booth the entire time behaving as an SD should. The employee then lied and said the customer was screaming and pounding on the counter demanding service. The handler explained that she had been sitting at the booth waiting for the officer to arrive. How could she be doing that when she and the dog had been in the booth the whole time? Cop believed the employee over the handler and had her trespassed for a year. She’s now contacted a disability rights lawyer. And if filing against the franchise owner, the employee and the local PD. Often times uneducated people in perceived positions of power believe they can do whatever they want because these PA issues are not taken seriously by local, State or even the Disability Rights offices. It’s like they formed these entities to make themselves feel like they’re doing something good but a really only collecting pay checks and patting the disabled complaints on the head with yeah yeah we’ll look into that and get back to you…. I know, dealing with ignorant employees is bad enough, but having to deal "stupid and proud of it" cops is even worse.
Two things I've noticed in majority of these type of videos, one, the SD owners are fairly young, looks like 30 or under, and two, the SD owners usually unprepared.
Not much can be done about employees and cops looking down at you because of your age, but you can be better prepared!
I'm a older guy, 62, and I've required the use of a SD for a little over 10 years now, due to injuries sustained in Afghanistan. I have found that having a vest on my dog, (even though ADA says she doesn't have to), whenever we go into a business. My dog is huge, 170 lbs huge, she catches everyone's attention, she's hard to overlook. So I printed the pertinent sections of the ADA law, highlighted the important areas, then had the pages professionally laminated. I printed, and highlighted another copy, but didn't laminate it. I then did the same procedure with my State's SD laws, (all 50 State's have SD laws. The reason for having your State's laws, some arrogant cops will tell you they "aren't Federal cops and their job isn't to handle Federal law, only State". That's when you hand them your copy of your State SD laws !! It also doesn't hurt to have those ADA law business cards. I bought mine from Amazon, I think it was 100 cards for $8.99.
Then there is "trespassing, interfering with an investigation, disorderly conduct", etc. These are B.S. charges, or contempt of cop.
You'll have to decide if standing your ground is worth being arrested for. Me? Charge me, take me to the local jail on bogus charges !
When my attorney and I get done with the lawsuits, I'll own a chunk of the business, the cop will lose his "qualified immunity" because he/she refused the written federal and State laws you presented and they refused to enforce either one. I'll own a good chunk of the PD department, and maybe some of the cop's personal assets.

  • @MashaT22
    @MashaT22 2 года назад +3

I'm really sorry yet again. But even the vest thing you were told in the end with the first guy isn't accurate. He said, if it's got a vest, it's a SD. We all know fakes often just slap on a marked vest and don't necessarily show an ID unless asked. However, SD's legally don't have to be vested or have any special markings, which I've always been told is because many people cannot put a vest on a dog, in case of emergency where you have to grab the dog and go and don't have time. I know you couldn't argue anymore when you already don't feel well and the guy finally decided to let you go -- but still, it shows you that the people who think they know the law really don't. I also don't understand why he felt the need to call his supervisor if he was already a supervisor and seemed not to be questioning your legitimacy in the end.
In the future, when you find someone who seems to understand, get that person's info so if you encounter another problem, tell those people, "call Joe Schmo who works for x department at this casino, and he will verify the laws with you." They often listen to their own staff more than you saying to call your program (and I feel terrible for people who don't even have that option -- but these situations are an important consideration about using a program over self-training because you are least get some advocacy help). He also could have at least escorted you through the casino to make sure you got to the room or wherever else you were headed without further issue in that moment. You can always make that request when you find someone who cooperates -- or let that person call a staff member to have them escort you if they can't for some reason.
Some programs or orgs like IAADP are willing to arrange to provide staff trainings that may help where there is a problem at certain places chronically. Someone in my class got a lawyer to help her when she encountered issue after issue during a hospital and rehab stay. He helped her sue and didn't even ask for a dime of money for damages -- she just wanted there to be mandatory staff retraining yearly for service dog access and requiring all new staff to also be educated as part of their initial training. She said she was willing to endure legal proceedings (which the hospital had to pay for as well so legal fees didn't come out of her pocket). She said there was never an issue after that.
Keep fighting the fight. Seems like we are all alone when these things happen to us on repeated, but the reality is that it happens to many of us every day. The more we push back as a collective group wherever we encounter these problems in this country, the further the needle will inch closer to that end goal
I've been there too. It's frustrating as hell, and more so when it's making you feel sick. I commend you for not caving to show those papers from the program even when you're sick. Shows your level of dedication for the next person. That's what my program taught us to do as well. I am hoping that I'll see this get easier in my lifetime.
Oh one more thing aside from doing what you said: get a politician and disability advocates involved. Find out who the local, state, federal rep is as well as local disability orgs wherever you encountered access denials or other issues -- and yes, reservations also have their own reps and non-profit organizations that may be able to help you too -- the staff from reps have people who specialize in various areas and will help do heavy lifting to advocate, educate, and go to great lengths to assist however they can.

🐕‍🦺💜👍⚖ Please contact the DOJ/ADA and slap an ADA-suit on them. I'm so sorry they did this again. For people on the Internet who love to say that you are using a powerchair when the only thing that you mention in the video was that they are "wheelchair accessible". These Dipzoyeds saying this is nothing but "Incompetent"! Even if you needed a wheelchair the fact of the matter is that your SD has a purpose as well to be a lifeline because it is providing a service/tasks to mitigate your disability. It would be the same thing to have an ID card for my wheelchair like my wheelchair meditate my disabilities so does your SD do for you?
