I still get goosbumps when seeing these sprite scalders. It was just magical to see these mighty arcade machines push out these graphics. As a kid I was in complete awe.
Looks amazing. Late System 32 game, very powerful hardware for sprite scaling. Immediately after this the 3D focused boards came out, Model 1. This was the last of its era.
One of the games that defines what arcade is. Graphics are ahead of their time. The only negative thing is the irritating sound when the car slides. Thanks for sharing.
Wow… a sprite scaling racer I haven’t seen in action, until now. I can imagine, due to the fact of alcohol/tabac commercials and the visible brands, the game wasn’t released in Europe and North America. 🏎️ One thing is clear: SEGA was the undefeated king of racing back in the good old days. ❤
Did anyone else notice that this game is a Capcom game running on Sega hardware? Looking at the credits shows Sega as being credited for providing the hardware. This game could be a stepping stone for the blockbuster fighting games Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes and Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001. Sega provided the Naomi hardware for those arcade game as well.
Its strange this game only came out exclusively in both Japan and Parts of South America like Brazil, The rest of the world don't get this game published.
Because everyone wanted 3D racing games. 2D racing games were years out of date in 1995. Virtua Racing 1992, Ridge Racer 1993, Daytona USA 94 Sega Rally 95 etc.
Despite having a "Winners Don't Use Drugs" screen and unused Japanese messages in the ROM, the game was not released in Japan or the US. tcrf.net/Slip_Stream_(Arcade)
Each car has a type of handling, the fastest ones have very rigid handling and without a physical steering wheel it gives this "rally driving" effect. Slower cars don't have this effect much (Fun To Drive or Best Balance for example), I'm playing with an analog joystick.
I'm tempted to think that 3d renderings were used to create the frames for the 2d perspective shifts, simply because the proportions are so spot on. Or maybe renderings served as the starting point, and some things were hand painted on top.
I love that they used real cars and tracks back in the day. What I always disliked about arcade F1 games is that they spend all the time skidding in all turns, which is totally unrealistic and it also makes me nervous cause of the tyre sounds.
The sprite scaling is impressively smooth and decent graphics overall, but the sound on the other hand is awful especially the tyres. I hope the tyre sounds can be switched of in the settings!

SEGA really needs to Come out with a System 32 retro system, that plays system 32 games, that should sell for around 20-35 a piece. People would buy out everything. Or remake Sega games using the system 32 specs that would be very interesting. Perhaps revive the 32X using A.I. to push the 32X
@@SmokeTooMuch-e2s While that would appeal to me for sure, I doubt it would make any business sense as sales would be tiny in comparison to the time and costs required.

The chipset probably did run hot, but not likely so hot as to scald the sprites, I imagine

@@nickwales4261 Yup, Capcom game running on SEGA System32 hardware.
Wow what a great looking game with a sense of high speed!
Thank you for sharing this hidden gem and nice racing!!!!
Your brain knows it's all 2D sprites, but your eyes say it's 3D!
TIRE SCREECHING: the game
seriously, none of the developers were like "yeah that sounds awful, let's maybe not play that sound 90% of the time" ??
Better sense of speed than Gran Turismo 7.
The game's illusion of 3D when it's made up entirely of 2D sprites, is incredible to say the least.
wow! at 40 i get to know this gem. amazing!
Power sliding an F1 car never felt to good 👍

This 2D graphics really help me to focus on game play rather than too much environment which downgrade the overall game experience.

Unfortunately we don't have an option to remove the sound of screeching tires in the settings, for me it's the game's only major flaw.
