Excellent explanation ! I’m one of those rare cats that actually reads and studies the owners manual ! If people took the time to read the manual they would enjoy their vehicle to the fullest. Picked up my 2022 Premium (atomic silver/sepia) a week ago today- drove through northern Idaho to western/SW Montana and on through eastern Idaho- northern Nevada took it off-road, being very careful with the break in procedure (as I was on the pavement) Amazingly capable vehicle and the best overall rig I’ve ever owned ! Read your manual 😎👊🦖🐻

Leaves are turning- colors are spectacular, grizzly bears are still active because it’s unseasonably warm, wolves, puma’s and moose, along with the deer and elk are active also- again because of the warm weather. Night’s are in the mid 20’s to mid 30’s- come December and January will probably be -20 to -30 at night- balmy, like Palm Springs😁Thanks for asking👍🏼
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD That should read, minus 20 to minus 30, pretty cold, especially if the wind is blowing- which it usually is, so with the wind chill factor it could be 25 to 40 below zero ! This is certainly not all winter, but it can be that cold a week to 10 days at time, 3 to 5 or 6 times a season. ❄️Perhaps one could winter in the Mohave Desert….. just watch out for the Mohave rattlesnake- can be deadly ! 🦖
Interesting. I assume the same applies to the Land Cruiser. There was the video posted by the "SUV Battle" channel called "Clash of the Titans 2" which has the LC 200 and LC 300. Both were only able to make it through the course when low range was engaged (they also engaged the center diff locks in the test). Based on what you're saying, this makes sense that only once they switched into L4 then ATRAC was activated. It seems that they did not need to engage the center diff lock. Given this information, I would guess that a 4Runner would have made it through in H4 mode with ATRAC enabled.
Thank you for the great explanations. For the premium/base models, does the center diff lock affect ATRAC function? What are your thoughts on snow? 4LO is generally too much for deep snow but having ATRAC sounds good.
When I go wheeling in deep snow I use 4-low and lock the center diff. Also, I set (if equipped) MTS to "mud and sand" (as per recommended for snow in the manual). Works great!
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD found myself in a rare situation where my brake booster and master cylinder sprung an internal leak and cause the abs and traction control light to come on. Was out in the mountains when it happened and was a little saddened by how I got stuck trying to go up a rock because of so much tire spin. I am a beginner, but from what I understand, i shouldn't of had tire spin like that. Thank you for your videos. Really teaching me about my GX and helping me understand how to unlock the full potential of it.
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD not yet. Lexus said the master break cylinder is going to take 2 months to come in. Oddly enough, brake doesn't feel any different. No way I would know anything was wrong if I didn't see the lights on the dash and take it to my mechanic.

I have the luxury model but I don’t have MTS. I don’t see why it would be different on the Lux versus other trims.
What about an older model luxury? I have a 2017 with crawl control, but not MTS. I have a center locker too.
Without MTS you will be just like the "base" and "premium" examples in this video. Just engage 4LOW and ATRAC is "ON" 😃

Atrac will work in 4L with or without the diff locked. As for snow... we don't get much of it out here in the desert 😆

The trac on my 2015 is automatic on at start up.must be in N to deactivate...
How do you get to crawl control? Just bought our GX 2017
I think you can install the CC module up to the 2020 year... ours is a 21, your 17 should work...
I have a 21 luxury, but it does NOT have MTS/ crawl control.

I'm not sure... but my guess would be no since abs is needed for both trac and actrac
