Very honest videos. I started watching all of your videos a couple weeks ago and now my wife is upset; as she says... "too much entertaining on your cellphone!" lol. It is the first time I find an honest point of view without propaganda. Keep it up! and always welcome to Colombia (South America) my friend, there is A LOT more to see and ride here than the news says.

Own and tested helite vest just like in this video. Even without inflation it has very sturdy back protector. If you get hi-viz, it looks dorky but people see you. They even ask you what it is. Yes, it was $700 but when I landed on my back I felt nothing. I got up, straightened crooked and twisted parts on my bike, set on it and to my big surprise and joy, it was still running. I rode around the block, parked and went to take care of my broken arm.

RE AIRBAGS .., Just be aware that : the Airbag inflation cylinders (compressed air cartridges) are BANNED from being carried on all Airlines worldwide , and also from many from most sea shipping contractors also .
I know this from Big Wave surfing inflation vests, which have been in use for a long time and use the exact same system .
So depending on where you are, you will need to stock up those cylinders as each come-off will inflate your jacket - and be prepared that they may not even be available (after shipping) once you run out , or ship to your new destination .
These Compressed Air Cartridges .., are seen by the airline and shipping contractors as potential explosives and is why they refuse to carry them.

After more than a year of almost daily use, me and another friend of mine can recommend the Helite Turtle vests as they do not inconvenience the rider at all and adds a lair of confidence (to your loved ones as well). No accidental discharges ever happen and we both forgot to disconnect on many occasions before getting used to it (takes 2 weeks). Airbags provide impact resistance that is far beyond what hard armour can achieve and walking away from a (maybe) otherwise crippling or fatal accident is priceless. Money you will never regret spending.

There is another option - a compression underjacket from forcefield or knox with softarmor for elbow, should, back, even chest.
Very well ventilated... put a jersey over for trails... and a abrasion resistant jacket for roads...

Yes, that is true. The first protection system is inside your head.
I always say to my motorbike friends about two scenes from the movie "7 samurai" by Akira Kurosawa. In this scenes one samurai is testing the skills of another samurai he wants to hire. One hidden man has to hit entering samurai with wooden stick. First samurai has perfect skills and reflex and defends himself ( ruclips.net/video/J2N_TIJPiOM/видео.htmlm6s ). But much better is the second samurai. Just before entering he stops because he feels that here is something wrong ( ruclips.net/video/J2N_TIJPiOM/видео.htmlm ). Good biker should be like this second samurai.

Very true. I am often amazed how many people are little aware of their surroundings. I was cutting some big branches of a tree with a chain saw. Guy stops his car, gets out of it and stands right under the branch I was about to cut.
I have to give him a bit of praise though. He got out of the car to make a call on his smart phone. These phones take much away from the awareness people have. Fines for using one while driving should be increased drastically. The fines should be equivalent to drunk driving fines.

I love my Alpinestar 2-piece leather suit, with boots, gloves, and back-protector. Today, for track use, company like Dainese and Alpinestars make leather suits with air-bag, the trigger is a GPS system, which read the speed of the movement, if you slide down, it won't trigger the air bag, in case you have an high-side, or a crash against a car, on the road, then it will trigger the system, You don't need a cord to be attached, but are freaking expensive, we talking about 2000 euros, for me is too much, I cannot afford now. But on the track are amazing.

Nice display of safety options, but as I said last week, erupting organs against the skeleton is what kills most people. This gear protects the body's outer layers only, energy absorption is the key to protecting vital organs. Maybe the jacket airbag provides some energy absorption.

So that's the video with airbag I pointed out a few days back. As you said, it's pricey.. And each refill co2 costs around 25 bucks.. So for a long tour if someone falls with his bike few days , the cost will be unreasonable! Good option yet not for everyone

  • @LookattheBiggerPic

good info but the latest pressure shirts are not bad and should be included - allows me to remove armor from all my jackets yet have the same high level of protection that is tight to my body yet surprisingly comfortable especially after you get used to it. I am finding that this works great in colder temps but also not bad in warmer temps under a mesh jacket... Forcefield, 661, Leatt and others make reasonably priced solutions in this regard - these are not to be confused with lite mesh style body armor such as was shown earlier in this presentation...

I understand Rukka are doing a new jacket with a chest protector within the layers, (like they do with a back protector) Guess what, it's not cheap....Oh finally, it's not 'k-nee' my friend it is pronounced 'nee'... the 'k' is silent...it is something stupid we do in the English language... as in 'Knife' A bit like the French do with tyres with 'pneu'...Have you ever tried to get a tyre repaired on a Sunday in France saying " réparez-vous des .. 'puh noos'? I have, I was 19.... luckily the Renault Dealership workshop had a good laugh and took pity on me....

The turtle is a bit more expensive but its worth it I think better than the ones without a hard back. The price is max maybe 500. I have a question please. Re twisting ankle. As usually, very informative. I have a question concerning the jacket with integrated airbag: there is a trigger line connected to the bike right? What happens if you just drop the bike at very low speed when crossing some muddy or deep sand section and roll "gently" on the ground away from the bike - you will trigger the airbag for nothing?

    • @eagle-from-aut
      @eagle-from-aut 2 года назад

Very late reply but in general the force needed to trigger an analogue airbag is pretty substantial. Even if it does trigger, the only thing that needs to be done after any crash (ofc if the airbag is still intact) is to replace the relatively cheap co2 cartige.

Actually, is not the best. I keep seeing those vests/jackets but they are without inter-costal protection. No protection for you ribs. What happens if you fall with your elbow between your ribs? Or on your side and hit the street curb with your rib-cage under your arms? You will soon find out that you'll have a punctured lung while wearing a 700eur airbag vest/jacket.
If you want a good airbag vest/jacket you should pick one that has intercostal / rib-cage protection under your arms.

Protective gear is NOT important...ask any Chrome Toilet Jockey. It cancels out the "pirate" look.

All the motorcycling protection gear I have seen online sucks so bad. Really really bad. Cheap stuff. Just garbage.

I cannot agree with this. There are some really good stuff. Depends from the price of course.

Motorcycle Adventures ok. The airbag stuff is kinda cool and the metal gloves can be sweet if they are high quality. But what I'm talking about it all the armor pieces. Like all the ones I saw were just plastic. I found one set of knee pads that had aluminum but that was it. I'm looking for something that's made of metal or Kevlar. And the coverage on even the expensive stuff didn't cover all that much. I'm looking for 80% + body coverage. If you could point me in the right direction that would be great.

I can’t ride with all this crap modern armour ,it restricts you from making proper rear observations .The old bike leather jackets were made out of quality leather with thicker panels to help protect vulnerable parts of the body .Now I have to wear textile motorcycle clothing to ride my bikes, that are fitted with armour . There is no way I could wear all that stupid robot transformer armour that looks like power ranger kit. The more armour car & motorcyclists have the more they think they are invincible & act like total morons on the road .

I hope that you will never learn what is to crash without the proper "robot gear"

@@motorcycleadventures I am a 69 year old experienced rider of 50 years on road .I have had one or two accidents .The only time I wasn’t any protective gear other than helmet & gloves the front tubed tyre deflated & I got dragged down the road & knee cap torn out .The point I was making was for me the old leather motorcycle jackets or pants never needed armour because of the quality & thickness & quality of leather in vulnerable parts . Also if this modern armour restricts your movements causing you to not see vehicles in your blind spot ,you are more likely to have a bad accident .Also I see many riders riding like lunatics believing they are invincible because they have all this restrictive armour & now air bags .Riding motorcycles is dangerous & you have to accept that ,you can only protect yourself so much .& too much armour obstructing your movements & control is not a good thing .

The modern gear is way more effective, comfortable and practical in almost any riding conditions. There is a reason why every long distance, me included, traveller will prefer it over the leather. Also the protection is at least 5 times better. Just because you have many years of riding experience does not make you automatically right! Leather cannot protect from direct impact! New textile materials, with a combination of some plastics are way better when you slide. And last but not least they are breathable and waterproof. I guess that you know what wet leather means, especially if you need to keep riding.

@@motorcycleadventures The longest distance I ride these days is into Wales or the Lake District in the U.K. I had to give my modern leather jacket & pants away as they were too restrictive with the armour . I now were textiles with some armour in but I don’t go overboard on it .I have to buy sizes larger for comfort .No matter how much they cost they all look shabby in a short space of time .How do all you adventure riders manage to keep those light coloured expensive textiles clean & tidy ,after riding through hundreds of miles of dust & crap roads ? You all look like you all just been on a photo shoot for a fashion magazine .

Not me! I wash my gear once per year. Usually, the rain do it for me!
