    What is the most important motorcycle gear?
    With this video I will probably hurt some feelings, especially to gear lovers, but I will take that risks. I want to share with you my personal experience and I hope that you will listen. Stay with me!
    So the idea for this video came from one picture of funny comics that I found in internet. I upload it in Facebook and Instagram and we had a lot of fun. Many people recognized themselves in this funny cartoon.
    What is shows actually is guy who just bought engine guard, mounted and find out that there is more protection for light, side panels, crash bars and decided to order everything converted the bike to a real tank. Anyway, you can see it in my Instagram anytime.
    Yes, it is funny, but actually I have some close friends, who do exactly the same all the time. I keep saying: “Stop buying and start riding”, but they just don’t listen. They are what they are!
    What I want to do now is to stop you before you become that person! If you already are, I respect your choice, but please go and watch something else, I have about 300 videos in the channel, this one is just not for you. Anyway, let’s go to the point, how much gear we actually need? Good question, is in it?
    I will never believe someone who talks about healthy food, but is always sick, to a fat fitness instructor, or poor man talking for business success. I always thought that when we want to convince somebody, the best way is to show some personal examples. That’s why I decided to show you what I have and use all the time and I hope that this will help you to take the right decisions.

    Good advice. Ultimately, we just need to be warm enough, dry enough, and with just enough food and water for comfort. To smell nice as well would be a bonus 😉. Most other items are luxuries.

    Basically I agree with everything you say. But, since you are a “professional” you manage a number of long trips per year where the rest just get their one vacation. So the ability to check out different things, see what works for them is limited. You find the right jacket after trying a few, same with boots etc. I think in the end most people settle for their one favourite item, but getting there is a long journey and stuff just gets added and not replaced because it was expensive.
    I like your minimalist approach.

      Even more - when the staff is expencive one should think twice before buy it! It is not necessary to experiment the same as more experienced riders and to make the same mistakes.
      In the past I wanted (very much!) to have good, comfortable tent. I bought one, even two of them. Now I travel again, but my tents lie down in the garage for more than 5 years...
      Pavlin is very correct and I agree with all his statements!

    I started laughing, because I was reminded of a trip I did in 2010 with someone that drove me bonkers. Like you I travel with the bare minimum. And this person has so much they complained that everything was to heavy. I was also getting annoyed, because it would take them forever in the morning just to pack.
    My bag had the following for a two week trip across Mongolia. 3 pairs of socks, 2 short sleeve t-shirts, 1 long sleeve, my leather jacket that I have had since 1992, one charge and one cable, phone and one map. In the bag on the bike I had a few simple tools, because the area of Mongolia we were going was in the middle of no where.
    The bike I used was my 1952 Royal Enfield single cylinder 500cc Model J. It didn't break down once, but the KTM he had broke down twice.
    Did I laugh? Sure I did.

    So many choices now with riding gear, helmets, boots, jackets, pants, it is hard knowing where to start, cheap, expensive or mid price.
    Good gear tends to last longer but many name brands are made cheap now and go on reputation from the past so it can be a mine field of bad experience before finding something good.
    I still like camping and sitting around after a ride enjoying the peace of the country, the solitude, the freshness of the morning with a hot coffee before the day begins, getting away from the rat race, sometimes it is good just to get away from people.

    Hey Pavlin. Great advices and examples. I do respect and agree on everything you mentioned. More simple, better usable. It’s always works on this way. You know that the marketing departments owned by the big companies manufacturing the accessories never sleep. They’re trying to convince the consumers that they need every single accessories on the marked. That’s why your funny picture shows the motorcycle tank come true. Following simplicity is the best, way.

    You are right, but for many people you might be right. Buying or selecting or ordering staff can be the essence of adventure, not the ride. Attaching and then packing gadgets is also an adventure! Sitting and dreaming how you will use them is also an adventure! By the way, this is very safe and it requires minimum effort. I am one of those:) I ride enduro very often and I prepare step by step my tour-enduro to go in one day on long trip.

    Spot on! The hardest part for me is finding quality gear. I bought an expensive pair of Forma Adventure boots. After riding in a 5 hour rain storm I realized that they are water resistant not waterproof! I gave a neighbor who washes his bike all the time, never see him ride it! My bike is normally dirty. I'm too busy riding and working!

    Hi Pavlin,another straight to the point, no nonsense video. I totally agree with your "less is more" attitude. Generally. But the amount of gear/equipment anyone straps to their bike should reflect on the type of trip they're planning. If you are planning on staying in hostels/hotels,eating in cafes and restaurants etc (thats motorcycle touring in my book!) then yes your riding gear,something to change into for the evenings,two or three sets of underwear should suffice. (Along with the obvious wash/hygiene kit!!)
    But if you want to, or are out of need, planning to camp obviously you will need to at least carry the basic necessities. I say "necessities" because again in line with your viewpoint, even if you're going to camp,generally less is more when travelling by motorcycle. If travelling and camping on your own,a two man tent( for you and your stuff)sleeping pad and bag,inflatable pillow(a little luxury but tiny packed size!), stove,simple one person cook kit will do the job. Well,it does for me anyway! Anything else is all down to personal choice of how comfortable you want to be and the type of trip youre taking.
    But hey,if you're riding a big bike with a large luggage capacity, why not carry a few items to make your trip more comfortable. Its your adventure,your choice. Last words,wherever you go,however you do it, just don't be tempted to pack stuff you really don't need and won't use!!
    Looking forward to following you on your next adventure,Pavlin. Good luck to you.

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  6 лет назад

      Yes Malcolm, everyone is free to choose what to take. The idea of the video is to show you what you really need, not what are the camping options. The final decision and the pros and cons after that will be also yours. Thanks for watching!

      @@motorcycleadventures thank you for replying,Pavlin. Yes,I understand and agree with what you were saying and I know you weren't giving advice on camping gear. I hope I didn't cause offence.

  • @michaelksiezopolski
    @michaelksiezopolski 6 лет назад

    I must agree, on the long trip less is more.... miles per gallon. Some clothes (like shirts of all sorts) are so cheap there is no point to take too many of them with you on any trip, some of the equipment will never be used anyway... It is better to have an extra cash in case of trouble than too much of the weight while you riding. Personally I do keep just air pump and tire fix set, plus basic bike tool set nothing more...

    No one motorcycle trip is the same. It depends on where we travel,for how long and the season. For example,everybody knows that Norway is an expensive country. I made a five day trip in the middle of May 2018 and I spent about 110 € for 4 nights in cottages becouse it was low season. It would have been impossible during the high season. I have traveled severals time to Norway from Sweden and I have a lot of experience and I know that you must be lucky if you find a place for less then 50-60 € during the high season. Another example is when I traveld around both East and West Europe. This trip was around 30 days.While traveling in East Europe i didn't camp for one night because I could find cheep and good hostels. I paid at the most 15 € for one included breakfast.They were all clean with private bathroom.This wasn't possible in Western Europe. I was glad to have had my tent with me . Here I paid between 12-20 € for one night to camp. This helped to save a lot of money. But i agree with you, I also prefer to travel light 👍

      Buy the one you can pick up from the ground alone. Any bike could be an adventure bike.

    that's a typical human habit i would say.. one always want's to be on the safe side. better to have it and not use it than the other way. especially in a country like switzerland.

    I wild camp around europe with no problems. It is just about finding good spot, where nobody sees you, of course clean your garbage when you leave. Then it is much cheaper to travel, and for me better experience to be alone than in busy camp. Yeah, I can imagine groupe of 10 motorcycles, loud, nobody likes to see that, but 1 lonely motorcyclist, noone really cares.

    How much do all the protective gear help?? I get that proper gear can be a life saver... But how much does it help?

    Hello Mr. Pavlin! Just want to ask how and when do you clean your riding gear during a long trip? Do you wash them every night? Or only when very dirty? And how?

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  3 года назад

      Usually the rain do it for me. I wash it only if it's really durty, once or twice per year.

    Hi, Pavlin!
    What are the biggest cons with the saddlebags in your oppinion? Needing a solid support like the side rack? Thanx!

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  6 лет назад

      Depends of the bike and of the bike model. I never use support side rack.

    hello again my friend from Greece!
    between Monday with Friday i'll change finaly the forks.. BUT
    isn't from yz450, is from wr426f 2003...
    is 46mm not 48mm like yz..
    some people say that this generation of forks 1999-2004 to enduro/motocros bikes with 46mm forks
    wasn't so good, the usd forks from enduro/motocros bikes from 2004+ with 48mm have masive diference..
    is it true??? i'm not profesional or racer , theese opinion is from profesionals i think...
    what's your thought about it?
    and somenthing last, my front tire is 90/90 21 now, this tire will be fit at wr426 wheel??

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  6 лет назад

      It is always better to have 48mm instead of 46mm, because the bike is heavy, but it will be fine. The tire will fit well.

    so what if camping is illegal in europe? are you a biker or a fashion model? lol ;) it's just a matter of finding the right spot and leave no trace behind, and dont disrupt local customs (that includes animals as well) if you camp like that, you can spend one night everywhere in Europe

  • @Tautulis7
    @Tautulis7 6 лет назад

    20-25€ /night for camping is a bit exaggerated. Max 15€, from my own experience.

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  6 лет назад

      Depends from the spot. In Sweden, Norway I had 30 euro. Around Germany 15 in Switzerland 20-25 euro. France 10-15 euro.
