I had a slightly different interpretation… The person in the chair is “ignorance is bliss” at all costs. They absolutely have no interest in disrupting their perfect lives (signified by sitting/relaxing and easy strumming of the guitar), so they ignore the abuse and ignore the fight. Ren abuses them, touching, grabbing their head, stopping them from playing the guitar, pointing a gun at their head. And yet they continue to ignore it and strum along through life as if nothing is happening. Ren then rips the guitar out of their hands; turning their lives upside down and only then do they open their eyes and see what's going. But he hands back the guitar and they take it and continue to play showing that whatever happened it wasn't enough for them to change their life or lifestyle. It’s only when they are personally about to be completely destroyed do they show a little resistance, which demonstrates that they are perfectly capable of fighting, but also shows that they are extremely unempathetic, not caring about anyone or anything but themselves. At that point Ren, who now represents society, governments, religions, and corporations, sees they only way out is to burn it all down.

As for my interpretation of the video: The guy in the chair (his bandmate Romain) represents the money game and those in power which he is trying to fight. He even draws eyes on the mask, trying to make them see. When he grabs the gasoline he it's a representation of wanting to burn the whole system down. But as he says in the chorus of the song, we're all part of the money game, so we have to start looking towards ourselves and not just blame the big guys. Which is why he sets himself on fire. Fun fact: this was yet another live one shot video. There are no cuts, just really thought out choreography. I very much agree with watching The Big Push. There are awesome covers like War Pigs, I Shot The Sherriff or English Man in New York. My favourite original song is Sweet Little Lady.

The guy under the hood is from his band THE BIG PUSH its one of his best friends his name is Romaine. This was also live and one take no editing it over 70 times before Ren was happy with it.

Thats the key, the captive represents us with the elite (rens character) ruling over us. (Someone can correct me on this last bit) but as soon as the captive was able to see (the eyes drawn on) then the executioner had lost his control so ended himself

This might be my favourite Ryker RenActions to date... the jaw drops... when you realize from a sound design point, they had to cancel an entire days shoot because of Construction, it took 4 days to get the 1 take on the 183rd attempt... 🤯

I fell in to the Ren rabbit hole like most at the end of last year with Hi Ren. And the more I watch his posts and interviews, non musical things he puts out, the more his songs make sense. As a human, REN’s biggest quality in my eyes is his self awareness. Hypocrisy is a human trait but the ability to be aware of it and call yourself out on it…well that is hard to do. over time my theory of this song has evolved. I see the person playing guitar as a money bag. And how much we love to blame money for so many things in our life. I would be happy if I had tons of money or the elite hold all the money and that’s why I can’t get ahead or be happy…”blame blame blame…it’s easier to blame. Than point the mirror at ourself, we’re all part of this money game”. He goes to attack the money and even go as far as give it a face. Then realizes, he is part of the problem. If you’ve seen the live acoustic version of ‘Murderer’ that he filmed in California, I’m pretty sure Romain is the other guitarist there too. I believe the guitarist is his friend and fellow ‘The Big Push’ band mate Romain? If you’ve seen the live acoustic version of ‘Murderer’ that he filmed in California, I’m pretty sure Romain is the other guitarist there too. (I’m sure someone else on here will know if I’m right or wrong) please correct me if I am wrong, I’d like to know.
