Notes about the 'One Song' series: The idea for the 'One Song' series came about when I was trying to come up with a cool idea for my next EPIC amp comparison with around 30 amps. So I came up with the idea of writing a song in multiple styles that would do a good job of 'testing' the versatility of an amp. It would start clean and end with metal. And I thought it could be interesting to use multiple guitars, one for each section. Then I realised that it would be cool to release each amp's video individually first and when I'm all done I'll upload a compilation that would essentially be similar to all my other mega comparisons, including all the timecodes etc. So that's the plan basically! However, I'm also planning on running the song through some modeling platforms to also demo those and see how well they can work with all the material in the song. I've chosen to NOT use the same IRs for each segment this time because I want to use cab tones that the amps are 'comfortable' with. So don't view this as a direct comparison of the amps per say, but view it as an amp showcase that also allows you to hear how the amps function inside the song or inside the music, of course in comparison to one another in that sense! This will showcase the uniqueness of the amps more, which is more fun imho, plus it allows me to be a little bit more creative when reamping each amp. Plus: some of you guys will say 'they all sound the same' anyway and the different cab sounds will make the amps sound more interesting and unique! For the metal segment I'll very likely use a boost pedal for most of the amps, just so you metalheads or djentheads can hear how a downtuned baritone with a boost sounds with the amp. Anyway, I hope you guys will enjoy this series and I hope I made the song interesting enough to listen to it a couple times (because I don't expect anyone to watch all 30 or more amp videos lol). -Jon
I wouldn't trade mine for the world, Mesa's are great but they really miss the mark when trying to do various things; Marshall's have it covered, especially with the JVM.
I don't know fellas, I'd argue that a Mark V is pretty damn versatile. They're a bitch to dial in but once you get it down... I have a Mark and a JVM and they're two different animals, both beautiful and ferocious.
I also disagree here. Sure the Mesa is not a Marshall but the same is true for a Marshall not being a Mesa. I play a Mesa Dual Rectifier and is an insane amp, way more versatily that 90% of people say. Espeically channel 1 (green) pushed is insane and when you put an OD in front, you can literally get all kinds of old school sounds as well. I fell like somehow most people cannot dial in a Mesa amp. Because I bought it with the idea to get a Buckethead type livesound when he used Mesas live and the amp can do that insanley well but I does soooo much more than that, which I wasn't expecting because all the interet reveiws said the amp only good for metal and extremely hard to dial in. I don't feel so. It just has a broader and way more effective EQ than most amps (and maybe more channels). This is not to degarde Marshall Amps (currently deciding which one to buy) but to say a Marshall is better or more versatily is not the reality. They are just different and will never be the same.
@@SonicDriveStudio There are mods to turn some of the channels into JVM410 ones, but I'm actually good with how they sound right now. Low to Midgain is where these amps shine, for high gain I'd still prefer an EVH
great video for a great piece of gear . I bought jvm410C back in 2007, still have it , still sounds great and very reliable , the only operations i did is tube replacement and rebiasing.
Great demo! You showed everything this amp can do and it can do a lot. There's one on my local Craigslist for sale and after hearing your demo I think I'm going to buy it. Thanks.
Dude you are the master. You could make anything sound sick! Have you considered doing some tutorials on mixing full songs? I dare say some of your stuff rivals anything I've heard over the years. Keep it up brother \m/.
I bought the same amp head with a Marshall 1960A 300W 4x12 Stereo Slant Guitar Cabinet haven’t even plugged it up yet. But you show it’s worth the purchase.
I remember seeing, I think it was, buck cherry in support of another band many years ago and he was playing one of these. SUCH a big perfect sound he had. I thought it was so bad ass that I tracked down his tech to find out what amp he used.
I have the 50 watt jvm205h on a 1960a cab loaded with gt1275s . Great amp love it and even with just the two channels its super versatile . I know alot of people dont like the gt1275s but i think they sound great with this amp. .the eq is more funtional on the jvm than on older marshalls . Keep the friedmans and evhs . Ill take the jvm over either of them . And it takes pedals like a champ . Best el34 amp i ever owned.
One song, one amp and one guy, John the One!!! I know I always say the same but I don´t have more words in my short english dude, your videos are a must have, just not for the tones, your music and your playing are incredible, love the leads phrasing and the videos are priceless for learning and are perfectly presented. you deserve thousands of subscribers so keep up the good work!! And about the amp?? I heard good opinions about it and seems to be verstile as hell and It is also not expensive...damn I cannot play in my room with that beast because I saw second handed very cheap, and is one Gary Holt´s favourite amps so that means something...but fingers are always involved when kickin´ this beasts!!

Great job! Your cab selections are spot on too. The amp is of course super versatile with so many channels. I do wonder if you could also achieve all these tones with something smaller like a DSL40CR or DSL20H.

Congrats. Excellent video. I am using this amp. (Bought 2008) . But the tone slightly different to me. What tube set in it? I am using complete E.Harmonix, both pre and power section, and biased slightly hotter than factory.
@@Daclaem I also consider to tame down a bit since the tone can be out of control in hotter settings. Because it has already a high gain character amp. Thank you for your valuable comment. Cheers.
I've been loving it so far! You'll be seeing it in more videos soon. I haven't compared it to the TS-808 directly yet but that time will come. The Laney is more tweakable with it's 3 voicings and bass/treble controls. Since it has no 'tone' control it doesn't sound exactly the same but I LOVE the fact that you can cut or boost the bass and crank the treble along with the gain for super aggression!
I use low output pickups a PAF style and don't have mich issues with hissing. Plus my guitars have wax potted pickups and high end electronics and amp is plugged into a dedicated outlet. I do have a noise gate so that sometimes I use on OD2 on the red that I have running thru the front of the amp and the effects loop.
But I hear so much great feedback on the reverb. I have this amp and the reverb seems fine to me but I don't use reverb much anyways so I rarely use it.

I was thinking of getting a MESA, now I need this Marshall badly, thanks for uploading this video
yep get this great tone machine , and make some big savings over the mesa
Way better than Mesa. Even bogner blows Mesa away. You need to many effects to make a Mesa sound good. This amp by itself will always do the trick
