- So i did a msata ssd 512gb upgrade, i used the iflash adapter board. 3000mAh battery.
I am using a 7th gen ipod classic, I am going to replace the logic board with a 5th or 6th gen logic board and make a updated video.
It currently is using all of 512gb drive. its just not showing the current space.
if anyone has any comments or suggestions, they are always welcome. i would really like to hear them.
Parts purchased from Amazon, ebay Idemigods and Tarkan.
Muisc : Tom Sawyer by Rush; covered by Deadsy
What you got is NOT A 7th GEN IPOD (aka 6th rev2) you got a 6th rev1
- what I thought as well!
Yep, need a true "7th" gen logic board or the logic board out of a factory "thick" 160 gig.
Where did you find your belkin case?
I recently replaced the HDD to a 240 SSD and my iPod 7th gen won't recognize it. any advice to have it restored?
Could you do a parts list. I'm curious where you got the bigger battery and the bigger back plate with the clear case.
You can find all iPod Classic replacement parts on Amazon and eBay, very cheap too :)
@@Gabe4043 Yes but all the parts I keep finding are for the thinner gen 5, 6, 7 generation ipods. I have the thicker Ipod video gen 5.5 (model MA450LL) and there are no hard shell cases for that design or back plates. I want to replace the metal back plate with one of a custom 128GB storage size but I can't find anything. All the descriptions are too vague for me to know for sure if it's for my exact model ipod.
@@blackstealth8168 I just bought on ebay the rear case (thick) to mod my Classic 5 Gen. The hard plastic shell I could not find it.
Where you get that case??
which case model is that belkin, where I get it
There is a problem with this build though. The msata ssd generates a lot of heat, we are talking around 60-80 C while syncing. If you don’t allow it to make direct contact with the back cover and use it as heatsink, it will burn your battery.
I have a 1tb m.2 with a 3000 mah battery. It doesn't get hot at all, and the m.2 chips sit underneath the pcb near the logic board, not near the battery.
thats so awesome.. it'll fit all my entire pc files
I am confused, I've seen on ebay there's some 3000 battery for the slim version, do I still need a fat back if I get one of those batteries? I have a classic 6th gen 80gb.
where did you get the belkin case?
I found it on eBay for around 25 bucks
Could you please provide link, where you bought that Nilkin case for thick iPod classic?
Hello! How can I get my hands on a that beautiful hard case ??? Thanks
Ebay. Check out also for the switcheasy capsule classic. Great case for 6-7th gen. I own two hey hey.
Where did you get the Belkin case? Thanks!
Any update ?
Where did you get your custom engraved backplate?
idemigods has them
I have found the place for custom iPod housings, check out - ipodparts.co.uk/custom-ipod-housing/
It's cool, they will match your old serial number. Also if you want a larger capacity, they have them up to 1TB! Check them out!
I just figured out my old HP Mini netbook had one of these 1.8'' hard disks. Do you think something like this will work with my netbook?
Yes
did you ever do the bluetooth mod?
It would be awesome if someone does this as a business. Like get old ipods, add a SSD, bigger battery a new case and clickwheel and sell it for a decent profit. I would definitely get it. Not all of us are technically blessed or competent to perform a surgery on our ipods
You can find a lot of pre-modded iPods on eBay.
I'm doing this on eBay. Hit me up with the specs you want and I can quote you :D
@@Jmcinally94 Give your one link for visit your profile.
There is a highly rated seller on ebay... dankpods recomends him a lot.
@@zeromant80 That seller is pricey as f*ck.
You created a monster there!
Lol thank you
I'd like to buy one of this moded ipod. Too cool man.

@@FaviMarzo hello fellow human being that used the power of the internet to make a comment that everyone across the globe can see.
Parts link?
Alterra Tech www.ebay.com/str/thepartguru he was very kind to me and has many iPod parts
You've got a 6th gen ipod. Locked to 128gb. 7th gen is the best for this mod as it has no storage size limit and is limited to about 50,000 tracks.
Same with the 5th gen. The only one that seems to hace this issue is the 6th gen and its because of a software limitation of some sort
Great music choice for the video 🤘
Finally someone accepts it lol
List of parts?
And where u ordered it all !
www.iflash.xyz/
Just make sure you review the compatibility list!
Apple need to bring them back!
Hi, how are you friend? Do you know where I can buy a battery, back and front case, buttons for the Ipod Nano 3g ?
Rubén Galeana aliexpress is your friend
I found 256G and 2000mah battery to be plenty. Many many hours of listening but keeping the smal form factor.
Great video. Can you please tell me where I can buy the Belkin Case. I can't find them anywhere? The ones that also cover the click wheel. Please help !!
Terry Stewart I found it on eBay luckily
AliExpress should have some cases
Most likely not the same exact one but there's a wide variety
Where did you get the custom back from?
I found a referbished thick back and I went and had it engraved
late here but you can order them for like $12 on idemigod website
Nice work! 👌🏽
Hey man could you please put the links of those accessories so we can buy them...!?
Could you please add a link to this Belkin case for thick 7th gen ipod classic? Because i can't find it anywhere.
I'm also looking for the case. Do you know where to get them?
Its a 6th gen not a 7th
Any heat issues from the ssd?
Msata drives get very warm and like to eat battery. I highly recommend the iflash sd card boards instead
Larger/faster HDD do not increase perceived sound quality on prerecorded audio files. With the larger capacity, and probably some software workarounds, you have room for larger higher resolution files. So maybe that's where people sometimes get confused. Larger HDD = more of the same quality files. If you want to get into the rabbit hole of audio quality, you want the best DAC (Digital Audio Converter), usually measured in bit rate, but there are other factors. This is true with all digital media players, including home and car radios! I just discovered that a specific generation of iPod videos used a high quality DAC. Apparently there is a quality bottlenecking after the DAC, but people have figured out a hack to run its direct high quality output into an external headphone amplifier for some super snooty music enjoyment! Sorry for the rant but this stuff is exciting.
How did u get the opperating system on there? i get the same red sign...
Red sign with the new storage means it's not reading it (could be a format issue with the storage or an improper connection).
the is a 2000 mah that fits in the thin case
Can i put a 2000mah Battery and en iflash solo in an iPod 5gen 30gb thin?
Can we use the bottom bezel bracket in thin version in thick version back panel?
Yes as you can see in the video I used everything from the thin back into the fatter back. The only difference is when putting the bigger battery in the case. Be carful because the battery sits underneath the audio cable ribbon not on top.
@@drwolfsburg8916 Great. I actually ordered one battery. The thing is every tutorial other than yours tells about changing even the headphone jack flex to a thicker one. In your video i cant make out whether the jack fits perfectly. Can you share some pictures of the modded ipod from the top view like near the headphone jack
Photos from the inside or outside on the top?
I used the original jack etc. send me your email and I can send you some photos
@@drwolfsburg8916 motoblaze2030@gmail.com
I just want from top near the headphone jack from outside.
@@drwolfsburg8916 if you can from inside too like a close up near the scew points would be a great help
What was the cost of this build for you?
Its a logic board or motherboard Logistics is something totally different.
You brought up a few good points with this repair 😎‼️
Did you replace the ipod 5th back to 6 gen ?
Did you format the 512gb drive using a fat32 before installing it? I ask because most of those drives do not come formatted with a file table that ipod can read, (such as ntfs or exfat) and windows refuses to format anything over 32gb as fat32. To upgrade ipod with a large capacity SSD you usually end up having to download third party software that will format large capacity drives (i.e. your 512gb) using fat32, and then the upgrade should work fine.
Generally speaking, the logic board doesn't care what size the drive is, it only displays what it reads from the FAT on the drive; if it cant read it, you get that red X and it wont work. Given Apple usually sold the same model with multiple capacities, programming every logic board for whatever specific drive size got installed would be inefficient and more costly to manufacture, so it seems odd if this is the case, but I suppose it is possible, just seems really strange from a manufacturing perspective.
www.howtogeek.com/316977/how-to-format-usb-drives-larger-than-32gb-with-fat32-on-windows/
Yes you do half to format it prior.
@@drwolfsburg8916 Thanks for the response. If you formatted it and it still didn't work, then I wonder if that was the only capacity available for that particular model, as this is the only way programming the logic board to read a specific size drive makes any sense. Strange. Anyhow, good luck on your future mods/upgrades!
Sound like you need two item if ur using mSATA hard drive (1) USB to mSATA (eBay or Amazon), (2)Win XP program
AOMEI Partation Assistant Pro Edition 8.4. Lastly i use the exFAT for iPod use, I have two iPod 5.5 classic mod, the
first on is 500GB and second is a 1TB mod waiting case and other item. iTune finished the install without issue
Any updates?
how can you make that iPod bluetooth capable?
Yes you can you need to use a Bluetooth modular chip but you need to make a hole in the case for a switch which I'm not fond of. It is a cool idea though. There is a few videos of Bluetooth iPods
Not a bad video but I would've loved for you to go step by step telling what you were doing.
I'm going to do another build video and do exactly that.
Haven’t heard Deadsy in a minute
Can I please Have the links to all u bought for this ?
What a nice build, even now I use my phone a lot, I still miss the touch and feel of iPod classic, I saw there is another guy down 1TB iPod mod on RUclips, maybe you could find a Mac and do the restore for you see if that’s work?
do you mean dank pods
Master of Yugioh yap
You can do up to 4TB on a 7th gen now
It's a pity that you did not show how to open the iPod, since this is one the the more difficult parts.
Sorry for your disappointment. Anyway, you can still use it if you flash rockbox and not ipod's operating system
I have a few questions. It would be a lot helpful if you could answer them. How long does it take the battery to charge to full 100 percent. Does the battery indicator in the ipod show the battery full icon? How long did the battery last during playback? Did you encounter any problems like battery heating up or something of that sort?
Blaze Mathews it takes about couple of hours to charge 100% I would have to say the battery indicator on the iPod is pretty accurate and does show fully charged when complete. I been using it every other day for about 8-9 hours straight the battery has lasted about 2 months.
I have not felt heat or any warmth out of normal use.
Highly recommend this mod. Do you need a bigger back to use it.
Add a bluetooth in that for ipod earbuds
No update on the bluetooth upgrade? Does it means you havent done it yet? :)
freb no not yet
Did you ever get around to swapping out the logic board for a 5th gen?
I have got a 256gb phone and 60gb worth of music, about 6000 tracks in cd quality of all the music I have ever enjoyed.
I would have never imagined that this would be possible 10 years ago.
Ur iPod is pregnant
XD
@The Genius for a so called smart person you aren’t making good choices
The Genius wtf why are you so mad
Would have liked step by step instructions. Too fast to follow. Good job, though!
I'm going to do another build video and do exactly that.
@@drwolfsburg8916 where is it at?
That track man 🤟 What I love about old classic ipod is that, its all about the music, nothing else.
Same. I'm still waiting for the 160GB iPod I bought on ebay to be delivered. Also, some of my CDs and songs on my computer aren't on streaming services, so there's another reason to have an iPod
Would you be interested in building one? I supply the iPod.
Thanks man. Unfortunately I don't have the time right now I'm working on a few big projects right now. Maybe in th future though.
Logistic Board? Do you mean motherboard or Logic Board?
maddmaxx636 logic board my bad
Great video for an upgrade. I have a thin 80GB that I want to upgrade to 128GB, so do I need a thicker back of a 160GB?
No your thin back should be fine. You only need the bigger back if you do the battery upgrade as well.
That Ipod is T H I C C A F
I just got one from eBay
Try rockbox
Hey even 6th Gen Logic Board has limitation upto 128gb but flashing roxkbox would remove such limitations as far as I know. But the rockbox fimware is really really buggy. 5th gen very good roxkbox. But 5th gen is not battery efficient like 6th Gen and 7th gen
just get a bigger battery for the 5th with a thick back it lasts at least a week easily on 24/7
@@jimb1117 this big battery work's real well ive literally charged it like 2-3x since i got it but not because the battery dies just to top it off.
@@jimb1117 if you have the ssd mod and a new battery it should last a while, what i have seen though with the batteries is they are hit or miss. Ive ordered some thru ebay and amazon and always get a lemon or 2, but for the most part you should get a few days out of it.
A normal 7th gen would say 512 or at least something near that. You have the 2007 version which can only read up to 128. Also, since the front plate is darker, it's a sign that it is the 2007 one. Otherwise the 2009 one would be charcoal.
Just thought you'd like to know. It stopped playing, I went down to the lowest video setting and still stops half way through. I've been noticing google seems to be throttling some channels smaller content channels, while bigger content providers open right up and play at full HD.
Oh that's weird. I'm very sorry to hear that. I'll keep an eye out for that.
can barley hear you talk then the music came on WTF lol
My gramma had two.
