One of your first ever Worst Games Ever was the awful Simpsons Skateboarding game and now you've come full circle with an awful Simpsons Wrestling Game
Matt McMuscles did an episode of What Happened about this game last year, for what was supposed to basically be a cheap cash-in kids game it had a surprisingly troubled development. One of the more interesting parts is that a bunch of dialogue submitted by the Simpsons crew had to be thrown out because some of the lines they came up with were “too graphic and offensive” to put in the game.
An interview in the UK magazine Retro Gamer suggests that this game was extremely rushed and had some strict rules as to its design and making. They even knew Ned was a problem and didn't have time to correct it!
Was that a recent issue?

I remember playing this as a kid and liking it. Of course I was 12 and had no concept of critical analysis at the time, Simpsons = great at the time to my tiny brain
Matt McMuscle's recently put up a great 'Wha Happen?' video on his RUclips. This game really had a troubled production.

My brother and I really enjoyed this game when we were kids. We didn't think it was a masterpiece but still solid, it was funny too.
It hadn't quite occurred to me at that age that some games were just awful. I always felt I was missing something.
I was insane at this game as a kid, but thats what happens when you get one new game a year and this is the one you get.
I was so damn excited for this game when it came out, raced to EB Games when they opened, bought it, ran home, played for an hour, and returned it to the store.
Only time I've ever done that in my 30 years of playing games. You would think the combo of my two favorite things at the time would be amazing, but they shit the bed on it so hard.
My nephews had it - they were into wrestling games at that time. A quick cash-in on the Simpsons name. Luckily, The Simpsons Hit and Run on the PS2 was great fun.
I only ever did that with LOTR Conquest, I think we were both justified
Ned Flanders was stupid busted in this game because, even though he was mechanically weak, he had a dedicated pray command that had a random chance of striking Ned’s opponent with divine wrath for massive damage.
Not to mention that he needed to be pinned TWICE before you could win a single round! The game doesn't even play by it's own rules 😂
This games audio is so unforgiving just a constant assault of random Simpsons noises even right at the end all you hear is Homer's Doh and Krusty's laugh repeating.

A game I often see mentioned as a terrible one is Triggerman on PS2. I'd love to see y'all cover that one!
There are some excellent behind the scenes videos about what happened with this game, I'd suggest giving them a look. The poor developers put a lot of work into this that they had to throw away because of studio meddling from Fox executives. It also doesn't help that some school shootings happened during development so anything school related had to be pretty much removed as well.
Hmmm, I don't see all the hate for this title; these guys are just a bunch of sad sacks...I actually enjoyed playing the Simpson's Wrestling ?!

I have the shame of saying this was my 1st wrestling game, after that came HCTP and it changed my life!! It's come to not being able to beat Smithers to meeting the undertaker, Mike Foley and Eric Bischoff IRL. I feel your pain, Peter. You are in our thoughts ❤

Just to pre-empt anyone saying "of course it only has early characters, it's an old game" this came out in 2001, when the simpsons had been running for 12 years/series. Hmmm, 2001 on PS1? I'm gonna have to re-watch Matt McMuscles' wha happun to check how long this was in development

Despite the bad gameplay, this game doesn't look half bad for a PS1 Simpsons game.
The models, colours, and outlines look relatively good quality compared to some adaptations on the system.

Played this a lot as a child, like others I remember ridiculously hard fights (Bumblebee Man, Smithers and Mr Burns, Ned Flanders) but it did teach me strategy at least.
Start with Groundskeeper Willie, use the rake from distance. As soon as I beat Bumblebee Man, switch to Bumblebee Man ans use the dog as much as possible (again distance attack). As soon as I beat Ned Flanders, switch to Ned Flanders and use the prayer attack when possible.
Not great if you want close up fighting, but it did teach me to cheese games a bit which came in use later in my gaming life (KOTOR and KOTOR 2, get to force heal and sith lighting, spam them while running away)
My strategy was as follows. Use Homer for the New Challenger Circuit, use Moe for the Defender Circuit, and use Flanders for the Champion Circuit.
It’s games like this that made renting from Blockbusters so helpful
I played this game in the back of an RSL (a pub) in the kids room when I was like eight? I just remember the kid I was playing with wouldn't tell me what the buttons did so I had to mash them until I figured out the moves.
You want Simpsons Wrestling as an esport? Sadly, there’s 2 words that wouldn’t make that viable or fun:
Flanders. Auto-life.
I put an embarrassing amount of time into this game. My buddy and I were both big Simpsons fans at the time as we hadn't accepted yet that the show wasn't what it used to be.
Even at the time we noted that this was crap graphics and even worse gameplay. It was 100% about playing as the Simpsons!
I did have access to this episode 2 days early but I only got round to watching it on Patreon today. Now I'm watching it here too. I'm not sure I'm doing this right.

I rented this as a kid and loved it, then I read all the reviews and watched all the gameplay and I’m like “was I this stupid as a kid,’or did I simply not play the game long enough to realize how bad this is?”
Honestly as a kid I was a Simpsons fan and I was a wrestling fan. I loved this game warts and all.
Simpsons games are normally amazing. I remember road rage was the first game I ever played on my ps2. And I had the Simpsons game which is severely underrated. That game was good.

The Simpson's Bowling is quite obscure and I don't know anyone who owned it as a kid/teen.
D'OH D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D'OH! This game came out after the PS2 did. I guess they couldn't update the graphics in time.
You should play Zorro: The Chronicles. That got low reviews despite being decent.

Julie Kavner who voices Marge pretty much sounds like Marge, she has nodules on her vocal cords which causes the gravely sound of her voice. She also has an amazing contract, she never has to do any promotion for the show and she never has to do Marge's voice in public.
I’d give Action 52 a zero. Now that game really does have zero redeeming factors, especially for $200 that they were asking for originally.

This was a frigging brilliant game back in the day. I seem to remember MR Burns and Barney being hard to beat!
By brilliant, you mean it has the characters and humor of a show you liked while having terrible shitty gameplay. Right? Isn't that what you mean? Because it's not fun to play, and it's incredibly basic.
Yeah, the characters and presentation are good, but the gameplay does not compute. I'd not call it anywhere near brilliant, let alone "muhfukkin" brilliant.
Ned Flanders was OP in this game. You had to have a "no Ned" rule like Bo Jackson from Tecmo Bowl.
This is a stupid, broken, and cursed game but… with friends it’s actually quite fun and for those reasons!
As a child I enjoyed this game. Ned Flanders was so broken with God on his side and his homing lighting bolt.

Not going to lie at first i was like haven't they already done this game turns out it wasn’t a wge episode they just played it with with Cultaholic crew years ago on the vidiots channel.
I played this game for longer than I should've as a kid. I think I did enjoy it somewhat but the same way someone might develop stockholm syndrome. The fact you didn't get to Ned Flanders though really is a shame, that's the moment most PS1 kid owners with this game realised that life is just not fucking fair and fuck it all.

This is a real bandwagon one I think. Its biggest crime is a few obviously broken characters like Flanders and Smithers, but it's a mostly functional game especially given its fraught development. Certainly less broken than most modern wrestling games anyway. This is one of those "I played it when I was a kid and I liked it" games for me, admittedly but there's enough variety in the characters to make it interesting to play.
This is definitely worse than most.

I remember when this show used to be funny back in the previous channel days, and the early days of triple jump. Lately it hasn't been the same and that makes me sad. I used to have such laughs with this show.

I really enjoyed this game. I liked that it was absurdly unbalanced. It fitted the humour of the show.
I never played this game but my brother and other people and said that is bad it looks more like a fighting game. They should’ve just said it was a fighting game more than wrestling. I don’t see them grabbing each other in holds and arm locks s should I just been like a boxing are fighting game or so if that’s what they should’ve said it was and I haven’t seen the Simpsons game like this in a long time either too so
A game that provides hours of entertainment is not an awful game a game with good graphics but not good gameplay that's a bad game, games must provide fun and this was a fun game to play
