The 290 was one of my first radio's was a ok radio it didn't have the mutec front end installed, received ok with out it, there now quite collectable for those into classic ham radio gear, if I had that radio I'd changing the battery compartment for 18650 cells. Nice one Kevin looking forward to the next one.
I have the Mk2 version and my first rig. Used to do packet from a hilltop to my home base 500km way. Circuitry in the battery pack is shot (????) and Adam's suggestion of replacing with 18650's sounds ideal in getting it on air again, thanks for the run through Kevin - 73 Alex VK2ABE
