Theory:
Steve is the sole survivor of the crash. Disc 11 and 13 are recordings of him leaving the crash badly wounded, which is why you hear coughing. When Steve returns to the mines or caves. He gets vivid flashbacks of the crash. It would also explain why there aren't any others with Steve.
And since the other non-hostil mobs are Villagers, everybody was once a villager.
And so Steve’s nose broke off, and his arms broke apart

Imagine if you were the one who was in that crash. You didn’t die but went into a coma and are now having visions of being in this blocky world. These sounds in the caves are occasional memories flashing in your mind.

Reminds me of the cut impact time sounds in Burnout 3 that also have a dark theme to them, Burnout 3 could’ve been one of the first horror arcade racing games and this was back in 2003.

the only survivor of the crash was supposedly the man in the "11" disk which is actually supposed to be a continuation of "13" which consists of the original cave sounds in the actual order they are supposed to go in so this isn't really a mining incident as much as it is "HEY JOHN MIKEY LEFT THE DOOR OPEN AND A BUNCH OF MOBS GOT IN"

oh my god, i remember playing on my xbox 360 when i was 7. i was alone home, and i decided to play some minecraft. i load a new world, get wood, and go mining. i found a cave but i heard a cave sound from 5:27, turned off my xbox right after this, and didnt play minecraft for the next week.

I can connect something to the crash theory. There is a theory in real life that I don't remember the name of, where when you are in a haunted area that could also possibly be abandoned, and the backstory is tragic (murder, suicide, etc.) the walls record those or hold in the sounds, and basically releases them at random intervals. Which can maybe explain stuff like voices, walking, and other paranormal sounds in real life.
So maybe that could be happening in Minecraft. Some "recordings" could be of the crash, some could be of mobs dying, and some could be of players dying.
But that's just something I thought of.

Such as a creeper exploding a top floor of a mine into the bottom.
Or just the breaks or whatever they had failing causing them to smash right into the wall. Or a head on collision with another cart or something else.

First time I saw a spider i jumped so bad and tried to pause the game. The first time I heard a cave sound I was terrified and didn't wanna touch the game again, or go into caves or dark areas. I don't remember how old i was but I was pretty young and man it made me fly in creative a lot of the time from the ground just because of it lol.

Unsupported theory: what if these aren’t ghosts or anything but what if they’re Steve’s ptsd... maybe of a crash or incident in a mine.?
This can be very true from fact that Steve suffers groundhog day,eveytime he dies. He wakes up on his bed,he remembers and knows how he died. But yet can't actually die and always wakes up in his house,on the bed only to die and return. The sounds can possibly represent steve loosing his sanity knowing that he can't actually die,being paranoid of when he think he'll die,but not.

I honestly just love how Billy completely strays away from the RUclips algorithms to pursue his interest in horror. I always imagined sound 16 as a miner crossing an uncompleted track over a ravine and it falling to the bottom

In every abandoned mineshaft there's this one room a large square room with a dirt floor that's mostly empty
I like to imagine that's the spot where the creeper blew up and many of the miners died
I shouldn't have watched this around midnight. That knocking sound during the intro sequence almost gave me a heart attack.

Correction: cave sounds appear when a dark area is nearby, you don't have to be inside the dark area. This can be tested by searching for a large cave close to the surface, then standing on the surface directly above it.

This may sound dark but I feel Minecraft is in some sort of post apocalypse area. This would explain the weird villagers, every being else abandoned, and mobs
I think about minecraft as sort of a castaway thing, you just wake up in the middle of no where, no other people, just you, and you have to survive.

I mean, those guys have an explanation for all of this, but really they never made a theory about the CAVE SOUNDS....
this reminds me of a time when i was playing with friends and I decided to go into a cave to mine alone. I was for some reason anxious, which I never am, but this time was different. So while I was mining I heard one of these sounds and it really put me on edge, then a few seconds later, a creeper shows up and I screamed for my life and I ran so fast out that cave. Just a pure flight response
You know it’s odd that this actually makes somewhat sense.
Even tho, the only other “people” are villagers.
I think it’s pretty much widely accepted that you *the player* is the only “human” thing, everything else found are abandoned structures.
At least that’s my take on it, since you’re the only “person”, I’d personally like to think whoever you play as is some sort of “relic”
Perhaps Multiplayer is a "what if" scenario where some or all humans survived the crash.
Ya know, these two things Y'all have said really fits with the theory that Steve has become the only of his kind not to evolve into villagers due to becoming content with their lives as farmers and such, and the "destructive types" became illagers (probably the vindicators), with the villagers who got exiled for their "unspeakable acts" (evokers messing with life and death).
and yes i did just simplify the theory, but the whole thing is on the gametheory channel.

BUT: The 90% scary and 10% relaxing is deep ringing, which plays in dark deep area caves, the rarest cave sound is known as creeper breathing.
