I like how jack the ripper didnt have anything extremely off about it, like the character coming out of the screen and coming for him, it's just a story about the game, and how you play it, and this is very much possible and it sounds genuinely realistic.

I feel like a cool trope to explore in video game creepy pastas would be a clueless narrator. Like, what if someone got a haunted game cartridge of a game they never played or never even heard about. They’d assume the subtly creepy aspects of the game are usual. They would ignore inconsistencies in the game that fans would pick up on. Etc etc I think it would be a cool aspect
HA! That'd be good, imagine someone playing something like Kirby and they're just like: **See's blood everywhere along with corpses** "Oh my god... this game is rad!" All the while remarking how cool it is for such a friendly looking game to be so creepy, all the things that should unsettle them is just completely lost to them.

The Theater is surprisingly realistic for a creepypasta. It almost seems like someone could make a similar game as some sort of art game thing… at least in semi-current times
Well, to be fair, I don't think this story was actually supposed to be scary, probably just a memey shitpost. There are many others in the iceberg though that are ridiculous but apparently supposed to be taken at face value.
Rollercoasters are one of the few things that I can't deal with (I have acrophobia), so this just leaves me wondering if I'd be actually scared or unnerved by this pasta if it weren't for the funny bone guy's name attached.
Out of all of these, Godzilla nes is my favorite of all time, it’s cliche but it was a fresh cliche, having good endings, getting grotesque in the end, demons taking something over blah blah. But the detail is so impressive. A man is making a full playable version of the story with well put smart new additions with fantastic designs. Only the start to the end of Pathos is playable atm I think but it’s already really well done
Agreed, I appreciate the effort the writer has put to make the Godzilla story very compelling and scary. A lot of creepypastas only rely on shock value in order to be scary and that’s disappointing. That’s why I can look back and really appreciate Ben Drowned so much, because even though it’s a cliche now, the amount of detail the author added, even going so far as showing the “hauntings” with videos is much appreciated. The closer to reality a story seems, the scarier it comes across in my experience.
@@gothicMCRgirl I think one of the biggest selling points was that it wasn’t just some Pastebin thing and that the creators went the extra mile and made incredible artwork that looked like it could have actually been in the base game. Total respect on that end
I also really like NES Godzilla, I'm just not a fan of the ending where it was revealed that the protagonist's gf had her spirit in the game and he had to save her. It felt out of nowhere for a story about a suspicious and creepy game to go in that direction, and too personal for it for how creepypastas are usually about "this could've happened to anyone"
Every aspiring creepypasta writer should watch this, if only so they’ll know what NOT to put in their stories. No mysterious unlabeled cartridges from a dubious source, no “they felt nostalgic,” no dreaming about the games, no photorealistic models in old games, no game assets manifesting in real life, and for the love of god no “they saw something so horrible they started crying/got sick”
You should defo avoid using all of those idiotic cliches when writing one, but if ya got one of them in there, it's simply about how to present it. A solid tip here: the use of adjectives other than horrible. Get descriptive. And Dreams/Nightmares of the game? Go for it, but keep it real, explain or imply that it's not the 'mysterious force' in the game that causes them, and rather the distress that is caused by playing it. Let it build up, don't introduce your main antagonistic force right of the bat.
I wrote a creepypasta about pokemon Emerald. A girl finds her Uncle's old cartridge and Gameboy advance, so she gives it a go. She has a normal time playing, until weird things start to happen. She's never played the game so thinks "haha pokemon used to be so dark" but then the pokemon start actually bleeding and screaming in agony. When she goes to catch rayquaza for the league, rayquaza is a skeleton. Rayquaza then says that it's the soul of her dead uncle in the cartridge haunting it who's been waiting for her in the cartridge so they can play forever. I thought that was pretty good.
@@juliefarrell6688 its a good start. Heres something I can suggest though. Don’t mention that it was her dead uncles game. Instead why not propose it as a game and gameboy that she found in the basement in a box or something and when she finds it she finds and old save file with a name previously on it thats the same name as her uncle. Then as time goes on she finishes the game and her parents fond the gameboy or she asks them about the game and if it belonged to her uncle and when they see it they look a little bit shocked to see it and tell her that it was indeed his and that he had been playing it in his chair or bed just before he passed away
Gaming creepypastas always remind me of a dream I had when I was about 6. I was playing Porsche Challenge, a racing game I had for the PS1, but on the track selection screen there was a racetrack named "[My name] is dead", and the image of the track was replaced with an extremely blurry image of what looked like a birds-eye view of somebody lying on grass, face-up. I suppose that dream was my introduction to the concept of games not acting as they should.

I always found it funny how nondescript most of these creepypastas are when it comes to selling how creepy it is. "It was so creepy you should have seen it, I was really scared"
I think it's really interesting just how many creepypastas were based on mario 64, ocarina of time and majora's mask. I think there's just something about that era of nintendo games that people find subliminally unsettling. If I had to pick a reason, I'd say the crude character models.
It was actually because of the liminal spaces. N64 data cartridges couldn't fit an awful lot, so they had to be creative with what they put on them. Sometimes you'd miss ambient objects that make an environment feel more full.
Definitely a sense of mystery and old/"vintage" kind of creepyness to these games and the era/time period the were made in, and nostalgia too. I also love them for not being too scary for me but still creepy enough to give me the spook im looking for.
throughout this entire video, I've said to myself "I'm aware of this creepypasta" way more than I'm willing to admit I don't regret being that one teenager back in the day who binged SomeOrdinaryGamers back when he posted creepypasta readings
Is it bad that I think it would be cool if they actually added Herobrine to Minecraft? It would be a neat easter egg, maybe with like a 30-40% chance of spawning in the world and constantly stalking the player.
They used to have a fun little herobrine Easter egg. I don't know if they still do it, but every time they updated or patched the game, they used to put an extra bullet at the end of every patch notes •Removed Herobrine He sort of touches on this in the video, but back in the day, it was honestly not *that* much of a reach to think that there could be something creepy just beyond the fog of your render distance. Minecraft wasn't so vibrant and cheery all the time, usually if you were playing by yourself, it had a lonely and melancholic vibe to it
Godzilla NES remains my favorite creepypasta to this day like goddamn, it stuck to my younger self's mind rent free while being so entertaining to read.
Yep, I agree. It's well-written and spooky, the visuals add SO MUCH, and there's actually a believable reason why spooky stuff happens, instead of just "cursed cartridge OOOOoooooOOOO!"
Who are You Running From is THE most terrifying gaming horror piece EVER. Honestly, I've never seen any image creepier. I don't know why it scares me so much, but it REALLY, REEEEALLY horrifies me.
Ben drowned will always be my favorite. I love the creepiesness it has and how it actually has a video to go with the creepypasta that actually matches with it. Also we cant talk about ben drowned without talking about nostalgia.
I think most authors don't realize that a lot of those stories could be actually better if they were simpler and without the unnecessary 4th wall breaking stuff and exaggerated gore they insist on including every time. I've lost count of how many times I was actually engaged on a story about some creepy easter egg hidden in an innocent game just to have it ruined by yet another "red eyes crying blood" or "and those who played started having seizures/nightmares/seeing the crepy character irl". Sometimes less is more imo
Tell the ads for the mobile game Evertale that. I swear those ads are weird. Especially when you get them at 3 in the morning while you're trying to watch relaxing or funny videos
Yeah, I don't like that. Not only is it not scary, but it can be downright insensitive. Clockwork, for example, uses abuse and assault just for shock, and it comes off as disgusting. Serious topics like that shouldn't be used for shock.
12:11 fun fact a separate creepypasta iceberg youtuber had actually been the reason that image was found for they found it on accident when playing with their brother.
I love catastrophe crow. there’s very little overtly scary scenes, but it just makes you feel very uneasy in the gameplay, and even more so if you learn the full story.
3:20 There used to be this ome Roblox game called "escape the characters" where you were in this haunted house area armed with nothing but a flashlight and a bunch of characters would chase you around (Shrek was in the basement, Slenderman was om the roof, Sonic and Bendy were there ect.) The entire game was just running around trying to avoid them with no end goal at all (it sounds boring but it was actually pretty fun) When a character caught you you died amd went back to spawn. However, when Sonic caught you a picture of his face would flash up and say "I am god" I just thought it was a nice little reference to mention. Edit: so it was actually "survive the characters" and they game is still on Roblox, but no one is ever on it.
I think Dunkey played Survive the Characters. I remember a clip of him playing Roblox and yelling "OH MAH GOD, A JPEG OF PUSS IN BOOTS!" and barely holding back his laughter

NES Godzilla I agree, but Tails Doll? Bruh. It's, at best, only good because of nostalgia, but it's honestly just boring. "Le scary creature will come to you and Jill you in real life" is meh
That to me is the best one. THE (Coronation Day) doesn't use any cheap jumpscare or any cliche creepypasta troupe, it's psychological horror...it messes with the player and lets the atmosphere sink in with them, similarly to a Silent Hill game

The Bren Drowned ARG and arcs afters arc 1 are really creative, the whole cult of the moon children stuff, great. But even before, cryptic videos, all posted in forum posts and not one singular story. It really got misrepresented after people starting make one written story with an awful ending.
I know ben drowned is cliche and stuff but its such a nostalgic story and the video adaptions of it actually manage to make me uncomfortable so I absolutely adore it and its simplicity.
My only critique of this video is that whoever was narrating the Lost Silver section needs to slow down while narrating. His words were coming out slightly garbled due to speaking too quickly and not taking time to enunciate. It makes the narration difficult to hear clearly and understand.
i love how more than 2 of these stories have an ending involving someone getting a weird plushie from whatever demonic entity was possessing their game. sorry for the haunting bro, here's a free plushie.
only about halfway into the video and its really good! A lot of pastas I’ve never even heard before, which is great because I like finding out about new stories, since sometimes the more obscure ones can get buried by more popular ones

1:13:08 For some reason, this kind of component of horror stories has always scared me. That seemingly normal talk about something to do with instructions or information about how something works or how to do something, and then it suddenly takes an eerie and unsettling shift when the narrator of the talk in question tells you to 'shut off your console immediately if you see X' or something of that nature. This was something that appeared in the first episode of the Mandela Catalogue, when the narrator of the tape tells you to kill yourself if you do not find a way to kill the alternate. It's the creepiest shit ever.
I like how the little lamplight one isnt even a creepy story, its just one of the many evil things you can do in-game told from another characters perspective, funny thing is, enslaving the little lamplight kids is the hardest way to enter the final vault meaning you have to just be evil for evils sake to do it

Etc etc

You cant just say the phrase "I want to get off Mr.Bones wild ride" and still be scary lol.
You also can't make a 144p skeleton tipping a hat at a rollercoaster in a 2 hour ride scary
are you the gutter brain or am I 😂
Well, to be fair, I don't think this story was actually supposed to be scary, probably just a memey shitpost.
LMAO I KNOW RIGHT 😂
Out of all of these, Godzilla nes is my favorite of all time, it’s cliche but it was a fresh cliche, having good endings, getting grotesque in the end, demons taking something over blah blah.
Definitely my favorite gaming related pasta. The ending is a bit wack but the build up is genuinely unnerving
I don't remember what someone said about it but it was along the lines of "They followed the proper set up for a horror story" or something like that
@@gothicMCRgirl I think one of the biggest selling points was that it wasn’t just some Pastebin thing and that the creators went the extra mile and made incredible artwork that looked like it could have actually been in the base game.
@@juliefarrell6688 kinda cliche but I like some of the originality
@@juliefarrell6688 its a good start. Heres something I can suggest though. Don’t mention that it was her dead uncles game. Instead why not propose it as a game and gameboy that she found in the basement in a box or something and when she finds it she finds and old save file with a name previously on it thats the same name as her uncle. Then as time goes on she finishes the game and her parents fond the gameboy or she asks them about the game and if it belonged to her uncle and when they see it they look a little bit shocked to see it and tell her that it was indeed his and that he had been playing it in his chair or bed just before he passed away
And the overuse of "I am God".
It sounds like a good creepy pasta to me. Simple but not to complex

I always found it funny how nondescript most of these creepypastas are when it comes to selling how creepy it is. "It was so creepy you should have seen it, I was really scared"
OP: it was so scary, I was really scared! So scared that I.. uh... Continued to play it.
Just like amateur SCP articles that redact most of the page
I think it's really interesting just how many creepypastas were based on mario 64, ocarina of time and majora's mask. I think there's just something about that era of nintendo games that people find subliminally unsettling. If I had to pick a reason, I'd say the crude character models.
Creepy polygons for sure.
It was actually because of the liminal spaces. N64 data cartridges couldn't fit an awful lot, so they had to be creative with what they put on them. Sometimes you'd miss ambient objects that make an environment feel more full.
I feel like the fuzziness of the textures also add to the creepiness
Definitely a sense of mystery and old/"vintage" kind of creepyness to these games and the era/time period the were made in, and nostalgia too. I also love them for not being too scary for me but still creepy enough to give me the spook im looking for.
With places like OOT's Shadow Temple & Kakariko Well as well as MM's... everything, it's no wonder kids were scared out of their minds back then.

*casually adds the Herobrine datapack to my survival server*
They used to have a fun little herobrine Easter egg. I don't know if they still do it, but every time they updated or patched the game, they used to put an extra bullet at the end of every patch notes •Removed Herobrine
He sort of touches on this in the video, but back in the day, it was honestly not *that* much of a reach to think that there could be something creepy just beyond the fog of your render distance.
For example, a misplaced/greyscale sprite lacking any animations would do the trick and be far more realistic

There used to be this ome Roblox game called "escape the characters" where you were in this haunted house area armed with nothing but a flashlight and a bunch of characters would chase you around (Shrek was in the basement, Slenderman was om the roof, Sonic and Bendy were there ect.) I was like "Yeah, I know these!"
and by the end of it, I realized I knew most of the beginning aaaaaaaaand pretty much nothing else...
Wanna say. Awesome to see someone making an iceberg video that is not only scripted, but not self censored for words like "suicide", no commentary about the quality of the creepypasta, and everything told as matter of factly as can be. You've gotten my sub
Censoring those words doesn't make it less factual lol
This iceberg made me realize that there's like 4 good gaming creepypastas in existence. I'm not sure why it's my favorite type of creepypasta.
I remember my sister-in-law's sister and her friend once scared me while playing Minecraft by making it seem like Herobrine was in the game.
The legendary Cracked Minecraft Prank.
Change your name to " "
Put a herobrine skin on
Traumatize your youngest friend
Evil ato isn't real, the first guy died of a result of a heart condition, the other was stabbed in a fight in the alley way
Aaaannnnnd creepypasta ruined
Lmfao that's the most fucked up spelling of "Otto" I've ever seen. But yeah, you're right, creepypastas aren't creepy when a tiny amount of research shows real events being made creepy by superstitious people.
The one that died of a heart attack had a heart attack because he walked to the arcade in light clothing in the middle of a snowy day.
Nah he's real, he was on the screen dummy see?
@@SniperOnSunday yeh not the best thing to do lol
Imagine spending months editing a rom and creating a cartridge, only to give it to someone who never bothers telling the story online.
Imagine you make the cartridge and the other person never gets far enough in the game
Jumanji but they stay the heck away from it's drum noises
That’s why you make multiple copies and give them out to more than one person. I mean come on, is this your first time giving an unsuspecting child a cursed video game?
I find the strangled red story to be the best gaming creepypasta I've heard so far. It isn't about the player's dreams getting haunted, or someone dying because of the game. What makes it creepy is that it has a well developed story, and it focuses on the game itself, rather than the fate of the player. I think it could actually make a good rom hack.
Oh man, the Gameboy Camera+Printer's "Who are you running from" screen was always unsettling to me as a kid. It was funny- but in a "haha wtf" sorta way. It's surreal hearing about that again.
HOLY SHIT the last story sonic 3 hacked was literally my favorite creepypasta for years bc compared to other sonic stories its like finding a diamond in a septic tank
The worst enemy....a cat. LOL. XD
Anyways, always happy to see Strangled Red in these lists. It's one of the only creepypastas that genuinely freaks me out every time I listen to it, and I have no clue why. It kind of seems like something that would really happen in the Pokémon universe. Will you go through other pokémon pastas? There's a ton of them.
The cat transformed into a cat!
@@couchbug I read the rewrite, and I have mixed feelings about it. I like some of the changes, but I wish some things had been kept the same. Know what I mean? It is good though, no doubt.

3:30 imagining the whole thing in ts1 fashion is weird and terrifying at the same time
Could you even see the faces
The Sally Anderson story at the very end is extremely creepy, because it's something that can actually happen. Some disturbed individuals who also know hacking and doxxing can actually try to find you and kill you if you mess with them.
So I first watched this a while back before I had an account and this scared me to the point where I wouldn't read the mario 64 and mario world sections of my mario encyclopedia for about a month.
10/10 iceberg, hadn't been this scared about something video-game related since I first got into DDLC
