Because the same infotainment is used across multiple Mercedes models. He's not gonna deep dive into it over and over again every time he reviews a Mercedes
I don't get it. Why do new cars since the middle 2010s feel and look so cheap? It's really a bummer, that maximising profit is depriving us of well engineerd and high-quality cars.
If you set the regen braking to max, do you know if the brake lights go on when you lift your foot of the accelerator? Maybe this question has come up before and I have not seen it, but I was driving behind an electric car the other day and my feeling was that the car slowed down very quickly without the braking lights comming on. Just wondering… 🙂
Most countries have laws where the brake lights come on during deceleration events over a certain threshold. This would mean it applies to both ICE cars and EVs. When an EV slows at the rate that a gas car would usually hit the brakes, it’s brake lights come on. Teslas do this extremely well for example. They even flash if you hit the brake hard enough.
Oh just what I wanted for the new year! A half assed electric car that STARTS at $70k but lacks features $30k cars have and can't even beat said cars at a 0-60.........
There are quite a few eletric suvs with 7 seats. You perhaps have the Nio es8, the Hongqi E-HS9, the Maxus Euniq and lastly the Byd Tang, just to name a few. The starting price for these 4 suvs in Norway are: Nio around 43700£ without the battery (renting the battery) and 50400£ with the battery. The Hongqi is around 50500£. The Maxus is 33700£. And lastly the Byd is around 50500£. Prices in Norway for these in December 2021.
All well and good, but there's _still_ nowhere to charge it if you don't have a house with a driveway/garage (so that's everyone in cities - people for which electric cars _should_ make the most sense (short range, no emissions, great in stop start traffic), and the range is crap for those who don't live in the city and need to (even if it's just occasionally) make a long trip.
My VW Passat 2010 is worth 5k Euro and has 1200 km range. I once drove it slow like an EV and was able to achieve 1500km. When I can get an EV with 1200km range for 10k Euro, I will switch to EV I promise :-)
It cracks me up how they call plastic "vegan leather" lmao. Leather is a biodegradable organic by-product of beef production. We don't actually raise cows just for leather so having plastic seats isn't going to save any cows and is actually adding more plastic to our environment. The foam in those seats is "vegan" too and that's a "vegan" dashboard.
True. I don't understand the problem with real leather. What do we do with all the skins of the thousands of cows we eat daily in the world. Leather is better than all the "vegan" crappy materials they are using. STOP this stupidity. Producing those "recycled" materials contaminate the planet even more than using real and natural materials.

ICE isn’t quite not dead yet. Until I see more charge stations then I will take it more seriously. Drove a Tesla Model 3 for 3 days. It was not fun finding charge stations and waiting around when I was charging.
NIO ES8 has been on the Chinese market since 2018 with 7 seats, 560 hp and 100kwh battery pack. It's just sadly never been induced in the UK. Available in Norway though

That’s the idea. I own a Leaf but also own a Pathfinder for long trips. Two hour waits to get to the Tesla Superchargers is not in my future (nor is the horrific build quality of any Tesla).
Picked up a brand new EQB300 a week ago. It lasted 160 miles...then the rear motor just gave up!!! Had to take it back to the dealership. Since you can´t tow the EQB it had to be transported on a flatbed truck. Unfortunately I had parked the EQB in front of my diesel car so I wasn´t able to get to work in time that day. The dealership offered me a rental car (smaller model than the EQB) but I will still recieve the monthly invoices and have to pay for a vehicle sitting in the workshop. Mercedes need to do something about their poor quality.
When would the Merc started building the EVs from the ground up, they are falling seriously behind the competetion for the range and storage capacity. Any ideas @Mat?
@@stijnhs yep they do but I meant more for the common masses. They have released EQA, EQB, EQC etc. but they aren't anywhere close to the competition's offerings in fully EV platform from VW, Audi or even Ford and Hyundai-Kia. I am not even going to mention Tesla.
@brotinger_1 Definitely agree, you and I are of the same mind. That was the key takeaway for me too. I wonder if they have beaten Tesla in terms of battery efficiency per kWh. Defnitely with 50% more charge per cell size they have an upper hand for weight reduction. Looking forward to the new gen EQA/B/C as the current ones are nothing to boast about for BEVs.
@brotinger_1 It's less incredible when you consider that your numbers are just dead wrong - you're comparing the energy density on a pack level for the Mercedes and on a cell level for the Tesla. I didn't find any values for the model 3 on pack level, but it is certainly less than 200 Wh/kg, probably in the range of 160.
Well, regen increases when you put it in "D-" on my A250e and the EQC i have tried. There is also "D--" in my A250e, witch put the regen on max. By putting it in "D+", it will remove almost all regen.
For some reason, when someone tells me about environmental friendly cars which are worth governmental subsidizing in order to help the climate, an enormous Mercedes SUV doesn't really come to my mind. I hope the battery will last for more than 10 years.
Even if it doesn't the huge amount of electronics won't rendering the car useless eg all gauges in modern cars are now a screen which won't last and will cost more than value of car to replace when it gets even vaguely old.
Lmao 🤣 Mercedes is dead after they decided to end production of their v8s, no one is even going to want to buy an amg now, why would anyone buy a electric Mercedes
The UK version doesn't get electric seats and only part leather. We also can't even choose the colour of the interior. We're stuck with black dynamica fabric with weird red stitching.
I think the Mercedes range only truly starts to feel posh from C-class upwards. The A and B class and its associated derivatives just don't feel posh in comparison, when you consider how many features it is missing.
I agree that ICE are one the way out, but I wouldn't say dead. It's just impractical at this point for everyone to switch to EV. I don't think everyone really thinks how much different EVs are than ICE.
There is a massive problem of literally hundreds of millions of ppl whos regular parking space doesn't afford them a charge point because its not their garage or yard or whatever, people simply can't plug in a car overnight in a big parking space outside their apartment building and fitting every single one of those with chargers in simply impossible unless we rebuild entire cities For them EVs won't be viable until charging is much faster as all of th clogging up the local charge points for 15min or half an hour or whatever every time they need to is simply unworkable ICE is here to stay for a while yet for good or bad

Great review as always. Only thing is that D+ is minimum regen, while D- is maximum regen. Also, I found the EQB interior to be fairly poorly made for its price. The ergonomics are fairly poor as well - not sure if it’s because I drove the 7 seater version. The rear seats are effectively benches that I get from small Japanese minivans. Finally, I have noticed a lot of (new) lower model Mercedes are literally rattling with very low mileage, including the test drive EQB I just drove today.

The windshield glass of the GLB250 cracks easily with any small flying object that hits the glass on the road. I have a 2020 GLB250 and so far The windshield has cracked 5 times in less than 2 years. ICE cars aren't dead yet, because - EV cars are currently only rich boys' toys (for example the EQB) - their range goes down significantly on cold weather, especially if the model lacks a heat pump - they take ages to charge and solving this with the current technology will require major changes in our electrical infrastructures (grid capacity and power distribution) So, until these 3 are solved I'm nowhere near becoming a fan. (I'm not an EV hater, but having "done the math" and having been very tempted to jump in, these are the major shortcomings I came across)
Great video. I’m not sure if someone has said below but you CAN NOT TOW….. the best you may be able to do is to fit a bike carrier arm on the back but you can’t fit a proper tow ball. Confirmed by Mercedes themselves.

It does in America.

Some vegan leather is made from plants^^
True. I don't understand the problem with real leather. What do we do with all the skins of the thousands of cows we eat daily in the world. Leather is better than all the "vegan" crappy materials they are using. STOP this stupidity. Producing those "recycled" materials contaminate the planet even more than using real and natural materials.
Leather demand increases the value of each cow, increasing the number of cows
vegan means something that isn't from animals. so its about animal welfare rather than environment

When would the Merc started building the EVs from the ground up, they are falling seriously behind the competetion for the range and storage capacity. Any ideas @Mat?
Uhm, they have an EQS...
@brotinger_1 that's incredible.

I agree that ICE are one the way out, but I wouldn't say dead. It's just impractical at this point for everyone to switch to EV. I don't think everyone really thinks how much different EVs are than ICE.
Affordable, convenient and functional, once ev can do better than ice in those three things then we can say ice is dead
There is a massive problem of literally hundreds of millions of ppl whos regular parking space doesn't afford them a charge point because its not their garage or yard or whatever, people simply can't plug in a car overnight in a big parking space outside their apartment building and fitting every single one of those with chargers in simply impossible unless we rebuild entire cities
For them EVs won't be viable until charging is much faster as all of th clogging up the local charge points for 15min or half an hour or whatever every time they need to is simply unworkable
ICE is here to stay for a while yet for good or bad

Great review as always. Only thing is that D+ is minimum regen, while D- is maximum regen. Also, I found the EQB interior to be fairly poorly made for its price. The ergonomics are fairly poor as well - not sure if it’s because I drove the 7 seater version. The rear seats are effectively benches that I get from small Japanese minivans. ICE cars aren't dead yet, because
- EV cars are currently only rich boys' toys (for example the EQB)
- their range goes down significantly on cold weather, especially if the model lacks a heat pump
- they take ages to charge and solving this with the current technology will require major changes in our electrical infrastructures (grid capacity and power distribution)
So, until these 3 are solved I'm nowhere near becoming a fan.
