That badge trunk opener is actually pretty common, especially on german brands. I've seen lots of VWs and some BMWs do it
VW has done it on golfs since like 2006 lol, its funny when doug showcases it because its been around so long but I do get the quirkiness
Ya it’s common, I’m surprised he mentioned it, my 2010 VW had it, definitely quirky but common
@@parassj1308 I was at a tire shop getting tires changed on my old Golf R and i saw the techs all gathered around the hatch looking at the latch 🤣🤣
Lmao how does he not know
@@Enzo187 and later also with reversing camera :)
This I think is what most people want in a car, not necessarily in this form factor, but a reliable, efficient and functional car
I have a hard time believing anything that's fully dependent on Mercedes electronics could be 'reliable'.
That isn’t hideous (bmw iX) and is normal to use
@@danmccarthy4700 It 100% can be. I know Mercedes has a reputation for poor reliability in the United States, but that is not a German engineering problem, it's an American manufacturing problem. The same cars produced by the same manufacturer in different countries do not exhibit these problems.
@@wowdogefulShit, I wasn't aware the SLK I had that was a Pandora's box of expensive electrical problems was built here. The label in the door jamb said otherwise. 🤷♂
Luxury Mercedes SUV "reliable" lmao
It looks more like a traditional SUV than their EQS, and I'm glad they used that infotainment system.
I think we got very different approaches to tradition in SUVs... I'll keep at this.
The info suck. Notice how doug trying to shrink it at his touch which didn't respond quickly 😂😂😂
it looks like a traditional SUV because it’s literally just the GLB gutted and stuffed with a battery. The EQS SUV is built on a different chassis than the GLS, thus they have more creative freedoms
Better than Lexus' really irritatingly and stupidly hard to use Remote Touch. Doesn't matter if it's a remote touch nor a trackpad. (I get really angry every time I see a '22 Lexus that has that really annoying trackpad) Waiting for all of the Lexus models to lose that piece of crap. Toyota, why did you put that trackpad/remote touch in your Lexus models in the first place?
Still looks like a jelly bean like all mercs but I agree it at least isnt an eye sore like the EQS
I like this eletric car. It doesn't shout that it's weird. It's just a normal SUV that looks like a gas car, but just so happens to be electric. So many manufacturers seem to think they need to build the next Cyber Truck and I think that alienates a lot of people that would get an electric car, but they don't like all the extreme stylings and weird designs that other car companies are going with today. If it weren't for the grill and the fact that there is no engine noise, I think few people would know that it's electric, and I think that is an appealing feature to a lot of people who just want a normal car without all the gimmicky over styling that modern electric cars suffer from. It might look cool when Tesla did it a few years back, but nothing beats simple designs
I totally agree wit u
I couldn’t agree more! The Volvo XC40 recharge also shares this advantage over other electric cars.
Very true, and thats kind of the reason why I like Rivian's designs over Tesla and if they would ever sell cars in where I live, I would totally get one
not sure why car companies try to make their electronic cars so weird and gimmicky
Agreed, and I would add that it NEVER looked cool, especially with Tesla. They don’t understand good design.
I kind of wish they did the same thing with the S class . Keep the look the same and not make it look like a jellybean
It has ALOT to do with aerodynamics.
@@Mooorino The Tesla Model S has the lowest drag coefficient of any production car ever, AFAIK. Despite this, it's a very good-looking car, and it doesn't look butt-ugly like the EQS. Hell, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the EQS one of the ugliest production cars in automotive history.
(I'm not a very big Tesla fan; my point is that aerodynamics is no excuse for making an ugly car.)
@@michaelfjmusic the Lucid Air has the same drag coefficient though doesn't it?
@@megatronusorionpax4900 I wasn't aware of that. It's very cool if so! And it proves my point further.
@@michaelfjmusic I am for Mercedes all the way, always been. Driving a A250E Sedan at the moment. I do agree with you, EQS is not what i was expecting from an electrical S-class. Must be a handful of people on the entire planet that goes "Wow, that is one good looking car". 😂
Sorry Mercedes, scrap it and back to the drawing board!
This car makes really a lot of sense as an EV. It is the kind of soccer mom car for her three kids and they usually never driver for more than 30 miles. You can get a month worth of groceries into that trunk aswell.
Shut up.. it’s a mechanics worst nightmare the crv & tahoe make more sense than these confusing monstrosities
I agree for local driving around town this is more than enough. Most people aren’t driving more than 100 miles a day and this can easily double that. If a family wants to road trip they can just rent a big SUV for the weekend.
@@turbochargedmad5876 Figure out how to fix EVs and you’ll be the only mechanic in town with customers beating down your doors.
@@markm0000 it’s the auto body part that’s the nightmare, the “eq” Mercedes are some of the most difficult cars to work on the eqs is extremely complicated and practically not designed to be taken apart whatsoever
I own its sister - car, the EQA 250. Living in crowded Tokyo, traveling around in nothing's-that-far-away Japan, like Raven says, "this car makes really a lot of sense as an EV." My biggest gripe with my EQA is that none of the 4Matic versions will be available here.
Long live the reasonably powered EVs with normal interiors and normal infotainments without the need to use all of those stupid screens and over complications 🙄 Like I swear I would buy a cheaper, less nice car if that meant I don't get so much tech that's only there for the gimmicks and making your drive more complex 🙂
Precisely why the 4runner is still selling quite well.
@@stevenwilliams1805 Yes, exactly! 😩🙌🏻

Though I must say, I particularly don't like how you're saying all this as if it's an objective statement
@@stevenwilliams1805 the 4Runner isn’t exactly reasonably priced.

haha well when Chevy Suburbans are everywhere it does feel small by comparison
We are fat too lol. We barely fit in other countries cars.

I have the same vehicle and I have to say it’s the perfect size. I just never thought it was a cross over. I would call it an SUV.
From what I once heard, I think US roads have wider lanes than European roads.

Doug, every new EV is DC fast charge capable. The difference is how fast. I.E. Ioniq 5 vs ID.4. Both fast charge, but one takes twice as long to charge as the other.

I have the EQB 350 4matic for 5 months now and I absolutely love it! It‘s so practical and comfortable and nice for price. I‘m actually quite sad I have to change it to an EQE sedan in 5 months (it‘s a Mercedes company car) and my next one will be one of those again definitely! I'm still waiting for the electric vehicle that can go as far as gasoline and refuels just as quickly. Until then, I can't justify switching to coal-powered cars.
@@Ian.Murray Really? Who cares. How much money do you waste on gas, how much time to you spend running to the gas station. Gas cars make less and less sense for 80% of drivers who park in garage and can charge at home.

I love this! a practical, reasonable EV that doesn't look a spaceship, doesn't have 1,000 HP, and doesn't cost as much as a fully loaded S-Class. I think we're gonna see these EVERYWHERE in a year or two.
I strongly doubt that. I personally love GLC, especially new one. And so what? They don't have cars in US :(
I never thought I would see Mercedes copy VW but the tailgate latch is exactly that
I didn’t think this was an EV. Wow the design shape is unique.
How is this blob unique in any way?
It's shape is also it's weakness. The EQB isn't that aerodynamic, which is why it's range is smaller than competitors. It still looks very good though.
It’s very early ML esque
The design shape is not unique. It's the exact same as GLB.
It’s zero leg room in the 3rd row for the GLB
zero? you are too generous my friend
Someone's first mistake would be buying THISSS car for 3rd row leg room
Why is the GV60 not in the Doug Score comparison or mentioned at all?
When mentioning the Model Y and the Mach E you gotta remember that those are not luxury vehicles - not even close. Even though this is an entry luxury vehicle, it's still a Mercedes and you will notice that instantly when you sit in it compared to a Model Y or a Mach E. This is eventually also shown by yourself by not comparing it to those cars in the DougScore, so it's weird mentioning them as being "better" during the video.
I got an ad for this vehicle while watching the review. Thanks, Big Brother.
Why is this car is old inside? New GLC and new EQS have new look I side, which is gorgeous. This is strange they didn't update this car.
These storage compartments under the trunk floor drive me nuts. Plenty of room for a spare wheel, but no EV manufacturer actually provides one - even as an option - because EVs are apparently immune to punctures.
Apparently so are petrol-engined vehicles, because it's becoming increasingly less common to find a spare on those, as well. A BMW rep at a car show said, "Well, everyone has a cell phone nowadays." Yeah, well that doesn't work so well if you neglected to charge your phone, or if you drove to an area with bad reception before having your flat. (Not to mention that it can take quite a while for roadside assistance to arrive.)
@@benjaminrobinson3842 if I were a car designer, I'd make sure all my designs incorporate a spot for a full size spare tire.....even if I have to stick it on the back of trunk or tailgate like how they did back in the old days, like Spiderman used to say: Everybody gets One.
This EQB is not on MB’s dedicated EV platform. With drive batteries, electric motors, control units, etc., there might not have been room for a spare. Hopefully, later model years on MB’s MMA EV platform will allow spare tire stowage.
When you buy new iPhone it comes without charger

10:15 VW has had backup camera like that for almost a decade now.
Saw this at my work on the lot this week. Made me look twice lol
That badge covered camera is brilliant for northern climates where the back gets covered in dirt all winter - great design feature!
And what if it freezes shut?
@@paulvideoproductions That was my initial concern, but I have talked to people with Golfs, which have had this feature for 10 years, who have never had freeze issues. May be the way the mechanism works.
*Doug:* (13:30) Describes in detail why he feels the MQB is better than the Audi Q4 e-tron.
*Also Doug:* (15:33) Gives the two cars nearly identical Doug Scores. (The MQB is one point better than the Audi in handling, and the Audi is one point better than the MB in cool factor, so the final score is the same for both.)
I'm glad Doug called out that the EQB is a nicer car than the outrageously overpriced and overrated Q4, especially if you want to bring them to the same power and spec. And it's just a posh ID4. The weakest point of the EQB is the exterior design which is clearly not for everybody.

Just the fact that range is really getting 200 on a single charge being realistic. And the charge only takes up to 100kw so it’s slower in the DC fast charging station when it comes to charging. so less overall miles and on top of that longer time charging at the dc fast charging.
Dave always concerned about the 3rd row.
Doug -- would be interesting to compare this to a Volvo XC40 P8 Recharge, which has Polestar 2 power/range but with more practicality.
Also, with these DC fast charging electrics, it's probably worth recording a peak kW charge figure. The manufacturers are tossing out these 10-80% times but it's worth verifying whether that's attainable for the end user. I suspect the EQB has an 85ish kWh battery, so to charge 70% of capacity in 30 minutes, you'd need a peak rate of charge around 120kW. It matters if a user can really get that.
good call! this is super important info. its like doing a driving test on a gas car and not getting the MPG numbers.
This seems like a great car - I like the GLB and Mercedes in general. Interestingly, though, it does continue to highlight what a value the Cadillac Lyriq is - that car is just a few grand more but doesn't feel 'entry level' in the slightest, unlike the GLB which is always has a sense of being an entry level vehicle. With that said, if I was "actually" picking between the two, I'd probably end up with the GLB :-).
How does it compare to the XC40 Recharge? Also the rear camera and tailgate release is something that - though I don't like to admit it - vw had on a few models like the CC a few years ago.
Doug I was just wondering, is a third row available if I need it?
Just a high five for also using the metric sytem.🙏
I took a look at this an option for my next car - the other being the Cadillac Lyriq AWD
The EQB looks good and has a decent interior, it drives ok and acceleration is strong.
Because I sit more upright in it it’s a great option. It is also slightly less expensive than the Lyriq AWD.
The downside is that MB leasing rates are HIGH right now.
They also didn’t equip tall EQB with power seats nor do they all have heating and ventilation unless you factory order one.
My Cadillac Lyriq will have heating/ventilation/ massage seats and autonomous driving.
I would probably trust GM electronics and sensors more than MB in the long term reliability department

The feeling of solidity could also be from these being made in iirc Hungary vs Alabama or something for the ICE GLB.
I nope'd out as soon as I heard 230 miles. That's unusable in the real world.
230 minus 5% natural degradation, keeping the battery between 10-90%, minus 30% freezing weather penalty = 122 miles reasonable cold weather daily range.

Hi Doug, thanks for the review. Regarding the MLB: You missed to mention that the blinker stocks are very flimsy and a tow bar is not available.
Bet that back up camera freezes stuck in the winter
All of that componentry in the front probably could have been better packaged to give this some decent front storage. Shame they didnt go the extra mile.
Just a little storage space for the charging cable would have been fine, it's really impractical to leave the cable inside the cabin when you are travelling with a full family.
We joke around about sport mode on our GLB250 3ROW too however it is mighty quick. Things can easily get out of hand lol

At least this looks like it's combustion counterpart. Idk wth MB was thinking with EQE & EQS.
Backseat air vents are rare in a $60k suv? Uh, Doug…
Does the range cuts in half if it’s winter and snowing??
With the added weight of the battery, I can't imagine the base model 220hp/290lbft torque version being anything but slow.
Depends on your definition of slow. The 300 does 0-60 in about 8 seconds, plus with the instant torque of an EV, it's fast enough to be fluid in traffic. I have a 350 and tbh it's overkill for this type of car.
Are the floorboards raised like Telsas or Kia EV6. That bothers me. Thoughts?
The biggest quirk... The front is completely different. It's not just a fake frille... It has different headlights with a design based on the other EQ models... Very expensive to make a car with two different headlights.
this… is the type of car that manufacturers can fit in wherever they can
230 mile range is very low for the price. you end up searching for charging station atleast every 150 miles
So the charging is rated 10% to 80%. So the real range is 70% of 230 from the EPA. So according to the EPA you will get 160 miles going from 80% to 10%. That sounds kind of bad.
Great video
Comfort Seat. Awesome electric vehicle.
10:11 Mercedes-Benz just waited 15 years, to imply this feature, and not be blamed in plagiat of VW
A few years ago regular vehicles turned electric would’ve been called compliance vehicles. Glad that’s changed.
If it wasn’t front wheel biased, I would definitely consider this model.
It's actually rear wheel biased. By default only the rear motor is active. Only when accelerating more strongly, the front motor kicks in as well.
The biggest problem with the Mercedes EVs is they all look really cheap. Like a Tiguan or the EQS looking like a Passat.
