  • In this adrenaline-pumping adventure, I found myself caught in the midst of a powerful windstorm in Macapa. With my trusty 8m lift and the gusts at their peak, I embarked on a daring journey. The tide was unusually high, and a thrilling competition was underway in the nearby lagoons.
Against the backdrop of choppy, wave-strewn waters, we set off for the mysterious mangroves on the far side of the river, nestled in Barra Grande. The landscape was transformed, resembling an entirely different world. A peculiar hut sat in the distance, a testament to the resilient spirits dwelling in this untamed terrain.
As I soared through the air, executing breathtaking kiteloops and gravity-defying jumps, I couldn't help but marvel at the panoramic vista, painted with the hues of the setting sun. After a diligent search, we finally reached the heart of the mangroves. While the experience was exhilarating, the dense foliage occasionally stifled the wind, urging caution.
With the sun bidding its farewell, we raced back to the main lagoon, reveling in the thrill of the downlooping ride. Upon our return, a few audacious powered kiteloops tested the boundaries, narrowly missing an anchored boat on more than one occasion. It was a sign - time to conclude this awe-inspiring session.
The following day, our attention turned to the grand finale of the Macapa Big Air competition at the lagoon. The contenders unleashed an impressive array of high-octane maneuvers. Jose Luis exhibited exceptional consistency, seamlessly weaving between gravity-defying tricks. His kiteloop boardoff with an added rotation left a lasting impression.
Xavier Kain, however, encountered a challenge. Opting for shorter lines in less-than-ideal wind conditions, he struggled to achieve the desired altitude. Even after his spectacular doobie loop the previous day, the final day presented a different set of trials.
Juliel Linhares, hailing from Ilha do Guajuru, delivered a stellar performance, showcasing a repertoire of mind-bending tricks. Yet, the unpredictable gusts posed a formidable adversary, affecting both height and consistency.
In a spectacular turn of events, the irrepressible "Baby Shark" Josue San emerged triumphant, executing mind-bending late backroll boardoffs and doobie boardoffs that left the competition in awe.
Results were as follows: local hero Jose Luis claimed second place, Baby Shark secured the top spot, Juliel Linhares earned third place, and Xavier Kain rounded out the top four. Witnessing the fierce determination and breathtaking skills of these riders was an experience beyond compare. Some faced heart-stopping crashes, yet emerged unscathed, a testament to their unwavering resolve.
Respect and admiration go out to these extraordinary athletes. Until the next adrenaline-charged escapade - see you on the waves!
