  • Nexxen Beach in Squamish has undergone a significant transformation. After extensive development, the road to Squamish Spit was removed, and access is now provided by shuttles operated by the Squamish Windsports Society and Squamish Watersports. This summer, Nexxen Beach was reopened to the public under a new name: Newport Beach. The area now boasts two distinct zones: one for windsports enthusiasts and one for beachgoers.
My first visit to Newport Beach left me thoroughly impressed. The expansive parking lot was a welcome surprise, as finding parking in Squamish has always been challenging due to constant development. Additionally, there is a vast grassy area where you can prepare for your session, pump and rig your gear, warm up, and observe the wind.
On some days, the wind doesn’t quite reach the beach, but on the day I filmed, the conditions were perfect-steady, strong wind right on the beach. It took me just a few tacks to reach the spit. The low tide allowed for an excellent session at the sandbar, where I nailed some tricks I hadn’t performed in a while, including late backrolls, boogie loops, board-offs, double backroll kiteloops, and powered backroll kiteloops. It was an absolute blast.
We then moved to the river’s sandbar, where my buddy Jack showcased his epic board-offs. Despite a crash, he managed to keep his cool while body dragging in the cold water. Our friend Roman added some humor, reminding us not to lose our boards in the river. The session quickly turned into one big send, with new friends like Lucas showing off his strapless surfboard tricks and newcomer Kai landing impressive powered backroll kiteloops and frontroll kiteloops. This kid has incredible talent and a bright future ahead!
Our crew was in full force, with Dusi sending it and even Matus joining us despite his recent move. I lent him my Prolimit harness, which he loved, especially due to his back pain. John Penxa from Seattle also had some massive sends.
The star of the day was Loren, who wowed everyone with massive boogies, backroll kiteloops, one-handed loops, and even an attempted kiteloop board-off. A near collision with Robin added a hilarious twist to the footage.
We wrapped up the session back at the new beach, where I couldn’t help but express my gratitude to Squamish for creating such an incredible kiteboarding spot. Let’s hope Newport Beach remains open and well-managed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, in collaboration with Squamish Windsports Society and Squamish Watersports.
Join us at the new kiteboarding "mecca" of Canada, where steady thermal winds blow all summer long!

I hope they reopen the spot to kiters. I can see the hazards and I can’t say it’s a beginner friendly launch, but it’s super convenient otherwise.

Man Jan has some serious nice aerial trics, especially those inverted ones look sick. Needs to work on his take off/pop though, looks stiff and rusty in some jumps

Hi Jan. Thanks for the video.
Is it open now to kiters?

Thats the thing... Apparently is temporary closed now due to some accident :/. I believe it will reopen soon. But for now shuttle to the island is still an option. And i think winging and windsurfing still allowed.
