The people commenting on here might feel differently if they actually heard some of the scenerios. Its aint that simple. Some people have spent there entire lives here and all there family is here. The sentence could be a non- violent crime, could have been accidental but they were in wrong somehow, negligent, over blood alcohol limit, high or whatever.
Not everyone who makes a mistake is a "bad person" and deserves to be sent away from their family and friends permanently.

You are wrong. As outlined in the statement to parliament in 1992 by the Hon. Gerry Hand (ALP) the Minister for Immigration, Local Government and Ethnic Affairs.
The types of crimes that could lead to deportation may include;
- production, importation, distribution, trafficking or commercial dealing in heroin or other 'hard' addictive drugs or involvement in other illicit drugs on a significantly large scale
· organised criminal activity (whether within Australia only or internationally);
· serious sexual assaults whether or not accompanied by other violence (especially where there has been more than one sexual offence);
· armed robbery;
· violence against the person;
· terrorist activity and assassination;
· kidnapping;
· blackmail;
· extortion
*Crimes against children, because of there vulnerability, take on a special significance, especially inducement to drugs, sexual assaults, violence, kidnapping and crimes taking unfair advantage of children.
She’s not wrong but it’s completely hypocritical considering the amount of Pacific Islanders that NZ deports. These people have lived in NZ almost their entire lives
She is wrong though (for the most part). She’s the PM of New Zealand, I don’t understand how she can visit Australia and effectively try and dictate what their laws should be. Australia has to put the interest and safety of its own citizens first and allowing foreign criminals to remain in Australia does not meet that interest. HOWEVER, Australia needs to make it easier for Kiwis to become citizens - it’s far too hard at the moment

I've lived in Oz for the past 6 years (and worked full-time since I got here) and I find myself defending Australians from people saying that they're racist, ignorant ,and as blindly patriotic as Americans.

That's common sense. Apparently if Aussies are living and working in NZ for a long period, they too are expected, not required, to apply for citizenship to seal the marriage. So both countries are pretty much identical anyway.

Obtaining citizenship in another country from the one you were born in can be a bit like marriage, just cause your together in a defacto doesn't make it marriage under law until it's official, perhaps New Zealanders are less able to comprehend such as I think off the top of my head in New Zealand a couple only has to be living together for 12 months before they can take each other for half, and half, I'm pretty sure there are many other countries that see such very differently.
Sending people back to their birth place, after growing up from the age of one or two in another country is just flogging responsibility. The society they grew up in created the monster so it's should be that countries problems

I'm a kiwi living in Oz, and I usually support Jacinda, especially in light of her predecessors and the incumbent opposition leaders, but this is an issue I don't agree with her on. You cannot expect any government to allow a non-citizen to remain living in said country should they commit a serious crime which results in prison time. If you do the crime, then you need to face the circumstances regardless of your situation. If you want to remain living in a country for the rest of your life, then get citizenship.

I don't know where she got her evidence from. But the amount of kiwi's on unemployment benefits is staggering. I work for centrelink and it is unbelievable how many kiwis i deal with each day, Those that do work, do pay more tax on a relative scale. As all migrant workers in Australia are required to pay more income tax. But at the end of the day. Kiwi's take out far more than they put into the economy of Australia

Laws of the land are in place to keep our community honest and safe. If people are being sent home for transgressing said laws or doing the wrong thing by themselves / neighbors- I don't take any offense to they're deportation.

Being from the UK this is the first I've heard of this. But it does sound an awful lot like a situation we had/are having over here. The likes of our Gov's Hostile Environment Policy has resulted in criminals who have only ever know the UK as their home, are being exported.
It goes without saying that it is never ok to break the law. But surely it is also never ok to strip people of their human rights?
If your not a citizen and you commit a crime you’re own government is responsible for you.
Keeping a prisoner costs tens of thousands of pounds.
And id rather my tax money going towards the NHS or schools rather than a criminal from a different country.
And it’s pretty easy to get citizenship in the U.K. or Australia if you’ve been living here for a few years.
