- This Video Covers how to Mod Any Original Xbox start to finish in detail no matter what model Xbox you have. If your completely new to the Xbox scene or have forgotten everything you know this guide will show you all the updated methods to date. Whether you want to just Softmod, then Upgrade your HDD, or if you want to fully TSOP you Xbox this guide covers it. From every type of TSOP chip (Winbond & Sharp) to the different tricks you need to know to launch Rocky5s exploit tools.
This is a long video, but you don't need to watch from start to finish although its recommended. You can just pick and skip the part not relevant to you.

The IDE cable doesn't have 80 pins, it still have 40 pins.
The 80-conductor cables simply put a ground line between every other line to reduce cross-talk or signal leak between adjacent lines.
The flash drive I bought actually came with the save files so I didn't need Xplorer 360.

You should be able too. Just plug it in and if it formats the drive your good. The xbox controller port is a USB port just with and xbox form factor instead. I have ran into some media that wasn't recognized but most drives under 2gb or 4gb worked.
I actually made my dongle by soldering a usb car charger with and xbox controller. And use it to this day.

You can use Conductive paint as alternative to soldering a Tsop and you can always easily remove it without damage to motherboard if you wish..

I don't get why people are still hotswapping the new drive if they've made a backup of the HDD Key and are using a SATA to PATA converter.
You can use the backed up HDD Key to setup a new drive outside of the Xbox using XboxHDM23USB using a SATA to USB converter or connecting the drive straight to the PC.
Allows you to format as FATX, create default partitions and then lock the drive. You can just place the drive back into the Xbox (using a SATA to PATA) and it works.
I brought a 18 inch 80 wire cable so hotswapping would of been a massive hassle, plus I recon I would of broken something doing it.
I'll check out that app. You can build one on fatxplorer too. For the most part its pretty easy to do the hotswap, same as plugging in the hdd to a pc/console just it is on instead of off, I think it's a little over blow the caution around doing it on the forums, but it can damage a hdd if something shorts.

Can't seem to find that usb controller adapter. All I could find were the one with long cords. Looks like this was modified using usb car lighter adapter. Do they still make these? If so, what is the link?

ya the one in the video I made myself but you have to sacrifice a controller to do it. the xbox controller is just usb, nothing special but a fancy plastic port

Can I use this same method to flash Cerbios on my 1.4 Winbond using the method you used? Obviously I'd have to change the C/bios/bios.bin file to the Cerbios one before flashing in Blast, but that would work, yes?
Yup, you can and you can also use the same method as sharp chips, that use a bios disc too

hey bro just making sure..i’ve softmodded and done everything up to upgrading HDD. is the use of true hexen or anything on auto installer necessary after this? if so, what?
It makes upgrading the hard drive easier but it's not absolutely necessary, as long as you're upgraded hard drive gets locked with the same password that's stored on a motherboard and you have all the system files on it it will boot
I've been trying this with Splinter Cell, I know I have all the files on the system, and there's no other save but the Linux one, but when I choose the checkpoints option, the game just hangs and never boots into the softmod installation.
Try reloading the files onto the USB and your using the right region., usually it boots first time but if it black screens just turn off and try again
Hello i have follow your tutorial but in the end when i remove the splinter cell cd, the screen is black and dont finish the soft mod, could you please help?
Try to boot it a couple time. If that doesn't work record over the exploit files, sometime they get corrupted

I see some people burn a cd with the files needed to upgrade hdd. But if you remove the hdd how would the Xbox know its modded to read the DVD? Confused about that
If you have a softmod you cant do that. If you have a TSOP or modchip you can throw any empty hdd in with a boot disc like truhexen or AID installer disc, it can rebuild a xbox hdd because it boots from CD/dvd first, whereas a softmod cant boot at all.
This is because how the boot process works. Softmod needs the files on the hdd to exploit the xbox, whereas the modchip or TSOP is what is exploiting the xbox. Also softmods need the hdd to be locked or it will stop the boot process.
I'm doing a video now on reviving a dead xbox that has no hdd or modchip/TSOP.

Sorta.... you'll have to dump your eeprom and build a new hdd for it, I'm doing a video on how to restore or revive an Xbox that would sorta cover it

I have a question when. I plug in my 2gb flash drive into the Xbox it can see the files but only option is too delete them . I don't get the option to copy to the hard drive ?
If your xbox is used there's a chance someone already did the mod. Check and see if it's on your hdd already. If not try a different port maybe, or a different usb. I doubt the hdd on the xbox is full of save files. But Check and see how much blocks of storage is left on the xbox.
dunno if you figured it out or not but, click right on the d pad to highlight the save file, this tripped me up too.
So this rocky 5 mod allows you to load emulators...so you can just plug and play...am i correct?.

wait... did you really say that v1.6 DONT have clock capacitors? they absolutely do, they have a "different" one thats supposed to last longer than the other revisions had. However they still leak way before the rest of the capacitors on the board. The main difference with 1.6 boards is you have to either replace it with a more permanent battery, or simply bridge the connection. otherwise the board will give error code 16 when you try to boot after you remove the clock capacitor.
Source: leaky 1.6 owner who, during a panic attack, had to research error code 16 lol

i have a hard chipped console but having trouble ftp to my pc i cant plug them into router as its to far away do i need my hdd unlocked to ftp to work im new to this
No, once your xbox boots it unlocks the hdd during the boot process, if your connecting xbox to pc by cat5(ethernet cable) then do a quick Google search, you may need to change a couple settings. You can do it, i have before. the xbox actually used a crossover cable for one to one connections but you don't need too
