Already have mine.
Softmodded, 2TB HDD upgrade, clock capacitors replaced, full clean up inside, custom HDMI cable/adapter with progressive scan support and the disc drive still works. You can also fit 90% of the entire console library inside the 2TB HDD, including PAL/NTSC-J exclusives.
How many still have servers up for online game play though
@@jgvtc559 Officially? None. Unofficialy, some of them. The original Xbox Live is being brought back by the community. Unless they have custom publisher servers like Burnout 3, the online is currently unplayable atm.

My ex-brother in law introduced me to the Xbox Softmodding Tool as a kid. I had Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell as a kid so that's why I was even introduced to it. Fast forward to 2022, I end up buying another copy of Splinter Cell because I no longer had the game, I bought a flash drive which was to my surprise preformatted with the save files and Xbox Softmodding Tool, bought the dongle, and boom. Softmodded my Xbox. The only thing though is that I have a Platinum Hits copy of that game but I was still able to softmod it. The other games such as 007 Agent Under Fire, Mechassault, those games have to be a specific version of a Platinum Hits copy if you have a Platinum Hits copy but otherwise it's recommended to have the launch copy.
If you have a bad controller to cannibalize a cable from and a USB cable with a female end (i.e. extension), you can make your own adapter cable. The OG XBOX is really just a PC with four USB ports that just so happen to be controller ports. I cannot say if this goes for third-party controllers but the cables of the Microsoft controllers are USB with an extra yellow cable. So you can make your own XBOX/USB adapter by splicing the cables, matching the colors of the wires but leave the yellow wire from the controller cable disconnected. I actually took a break-away cable and made a USB to XBOX adapter and an XBOX to USB adapter. I could plug flash drives in to the XBOX with one and plug my XBOX controller in to my PC with the other. I don't recommend doing that anymore because modern XBOX controllers are so much better and you'll find more controllers in the wild that DON'T have breakaway cables than controllers that do. I still have my very first XBOX I modded close to 20 years ago. It has an Xecuter X3 and two USB ports in the back that are actually spliced in to controller ports 3 and 4. I did have Linux working on it many years ago with a mouse and keyboard plugged in to those ports. The front ports can still be used, you just can't have something plugged in to the same port in the back.
One thing to make sure as well on the console, is if ALL the capacitors inside are not bulging or leaking. Many XBox consoles have this problem nowadays, because Microsoft decided to use many regular electrolytic capacitors in the XBox, and they were all made during the sadly famous "capacitors plague" between 1999 and 2007, so you never know if your console is affected until you open it to check the motherboard inside.
If there are some leaking and/or bulging capacitors, and if some are leaking BUT not leaked on the board, those capacitors should be replaced as soon as possible.
I have 3 xbox classics. in all 3 I had to replace the electrolytic capacitors. one managed to damage some SMD components on HDD board. I had to desolder some SMD components, clean everything and solder it back on.
I heard that if you have an Xbox built after February 2004 it's way less likely to run into this issue, not sure how true that is
@@TheRoughGoIt’s April 2004, after that they made the 1.6 mobo rev which has a higher quality clock cap that doesn’t leak. However other caps can still leak.

I got mine in Christmas of 2004 I never opened it so yeah I don't think my Xbox is leaking I think mine is fine but it never hurts to check I just never got around to it
Man, some of those flash drives are super hard to find these days haha. Luckily I found one on eBay, and I bought the usb to xbox control port adapter. Stoked to try this on one of my OG Xbox consoles. You're always putting out the best console mod content. I've used your tutorials for all of my modded consoles. Thanks Blaine!

Sadly you can't really do much with the stock HDD on a modded Xbox because it's so small. The next step is replacing the HDD with something larger and that's probably the hardest part.
Hey, I did everything correctly but when it comes to plugging the USB stick into the Xbox it recognises the memory but it shows it as empty without the saved data or the modding tool. I decided to restart and do it all again did it all correctly but isn't showing with the saved data or modding tool. This a 1.1 xbox I believe anything to help with this? Thank you.

lol i got it to work on a Pal console. Thanks for these tips. I was using the wrong James bond game duh. Nightfire instead of Agent Under Fire lol. Thankfully i had both. It worked the 2nd time around. I am just waiting for my XBox2hdmi to arrive so i can hook it up to the OLED in the lounge which is where the router is. Then i can easily transfer the files on extras disc to get back the original dashboard look that i love. In the meantime ordered a cheap set of component cables to test it on my Sony TV in the spare room anyway just to make sure all the resolutions work etc.Thankfully the Sony 4k has Component where as my LG OLED doesn't.
This is amazing, I want to buy the original Xbox in 2024.

Splinter Cell has been one of the few games to softmod the Xbox for well over a decade. It hasn’t budged from the $7-$12 dollar range either.

Back in the it was 4 different original xbox games and trust me i got all 4 games back in the day. All in mint condition. Then again i made sure it was hard modded. Soft modded has a small amount of games that didn't work where the hard mod was 💯!

Hey Blaine, I'm at the step where I''ve exploited MechAssault to the Xbox. I resetted my xbox, it launches the Xbox logo in green, and then the Grey Xbox logo. However, the xbox power button stays yellow and then the screen goes all fuzzy. How do I troubleshoot this?

so my xbox reads my flash drive, I've transferred the save files onto it and verified they're there, but my xbox just shows it as a blank memory card. Any idea why that might be? It is a 4gb flash drive, so that could be it, but I figured if it detects the drive it should also be able to read the contents. Great tutorial, super thorough.

Same here. I put the folders there, and my xbox opens the usb but shows nothing. Got back to 360 xplorer which shows they are there. What to try next 🥺 I guess its time to find another usb stick 😭

So i first used this method to hack my xbox in 2018. Worked like a charm since up until Yesterday, when yours trully decided to finally register his xbox on Insignia ....
So since i had the dashbord version 4.something (pre xbox live update ) i decided to use halo 2 to bring in up to speed with the requirements of Insignia. And as the update was over, well i noticed my xbox was indeed unhacked... I can only boot instandard MS dashboard, and even though the video settings list all the possible resolution options, the image is still low quality ( btw it's a PAL model).
I do have the saves in the hdd and the necessary files for the softmod so my question is:
Should i just go ahead and launch the exploit using splinter cell as i did the first time and install everything all over again or is there another way to do this ? Do i risk anything by going that route ?

I’ve installed the softmodding tool to my Xbox. But for some reason it won’t ready my burned dvd-dl discs…..they have been burned at 4x through imgburn. Tried 3 different games and none of them work 🤷♂️ what am I doing wrong ? Thanks

NEED HELP!!! Hello I was following the tutorial for softmodding my xbox and at 15:23 I ejected the disc powered off and power it on again on as shown in the video and now my Xbox has a half orange and green light and wont load to dashboard.
It just stuck in a loop where it makes weird mechanical noises and shows the xbox logo then black screen and repeat logo. It still reads games OK and the xbox LED turns half orange and half green light when it reads burned dics for some reason, don't know if that is part of my problem.

Hi Mate, I am in Australia and no matter what i do i can't get this to work. I have the original Pal version of Metal Arms and although i copied the file over and the softmod and followed all of your instructions it just treats the save file as a normal game file and starts the game. Unfortunately the NTSC saves don't work on a pal console either as i tried Nightfire. I don't have Splintercell. I ordered one in case that one works.
Has anyone been able to get this to work? I follow the steps exactly and see put the software on the flashdrive but when I put the drive in the xbox it comes up and and shows no saves on it.

Blaine could you help me or anyone Ive followed all of the steps in the video up in till the taking out the disk and restarting after doing that it said that the dashboard was downloading black screened then it just into a boot loop with the disc drive flashing green
I did it! Everything worked well. Now I have my Xbox soft modded. Now I have one question. How can I have the option to switch back to the original dashboard? Because I had a soft modded Xbox before this one and it had that option enabled.
Awesome! Glad it all went well for you. Yes, the dashboard can be changed. If you look in the UnleashX settings, there's an option in there for selecting different dashboards. Another way to go about it is to grab a copy of the "Xbox Xtras" disc disc ISO from Rocky5 and burn it to a DVD. That way, you'll get the option for custom dashboards and a TON of other great options for your newly-modded Xbox. Enjoy!

There's only room for 2-3 games on the OG HDD, you need to upgrade the HDD to do what you described.
I think i might have messed something up trying to mod mine. When there is no disc in it wont boot to a dashboard. when my exploit game is in it loads the game so i try the steps for the save mod and it boots to this patch settings page. idk what to do. Can anyone help me? thanks!

My console is PAL, all the process worked for me, but even if I select high resolutions like 480p 720p and 1080i I am not sure at all this works on the PAL versions of the Xbox unless you use something like ENIGMAH Video Select, could someone confirm?

So I followed the instructions got the softmod on rebooted xbox. Now no main menu just reboots over and over again. It will still play splinter cell but no menu. Looks like this mod destroyed my xbox!!!!

The "easy" soft mods are usually not all that easy.
The problem is finding the right USB flash drive that is available. Which aren't available because they are old and out of stock

I hate the original Xbox. I have 2 slim Xbox 360 modded with RGH, and Xbox Series X. I love Playstation and Nintendo more.
I think it would be faster much to just solder in a MOD-CHIP.
Only if you have said modchip, torx screwdrivers, various other tools and the tools and skills for soldering. This video is all about modding an XBOX that anyone can do without those tools and skills.
@GiSWiG you still need to do that anyway unless you want the RTC battery acid to destroy your xbox
