  • I wanted to drain my Keurig internal reservoir for storage but none of the other videos helped. I watched all the videos that showed you how to take off the bottom but none of them did a very good job of helping me get the job done. Once I figured it out I decided to share to in case others were having the same issue. Hope this helps! :)

This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

This video was dynamite. I had called Keurig to get support for draining the main reservoir only to get scheduled for a technician to call back; no return call!!! So I was left in the lurch! So much for Keurig support. As per the instructions and guidance of the video, the draining was a breeze. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent video, helped me greatly. One note, there are two little clips mid-way down the black top that have to be in place when reinstalling said black top, before you put the screws back in. Easy enough to figure out when the top wouldn't close, but I did have to take the screws back out, adjust, and reinstall them. No biggie. The important parts of this video are well done, thank you much!

we have the identical Keurig as in the video and are packing into storage for several months. This video and the comments below were invaluable!! Like another person, it took a bit of patience and wiggling around to get the black top off. Also, like the other comment, I have NO idea what caused it to suddenly release, but I suspect it has to do with the 2 tabs toward the back that someone else commented about with respect to replacing the black top! Thank you for making this video - I was appalled to see on Keurig's website that one can never drain this holding tank! Seems very odd to have designed it that way, when in fact, with a bit of ingenuity, you can - much healthier!

This works, and like another comment said, disconnect the 3rd tube and then no straw is needed. If all 3 tubes are disconnecteed, the water pours out when tipped upside down. Thanks for this helpful video and saving me tons of time.

  • @DanChanPiano

Your video has helped many, me included. After researching as you did and attempting failed methods, your straw allows the tank to openly vent and stream the water out. Additionally, using a compressor, I blew out all available orifices' and tubes to get additional water out and left everything disconnected with the Keurig in a warm environment for a week to further dry out. Water = bacteria and mold. You want every drop out before storage.

You're a genius !! I followed everything to a tee and SUCCESS! Had a little trouble removing the top, after screws removed (for some reason) but with a little determination it finally surrendered. The straw idea was brilliant. Drained two cups of water! Thanks for the video! Glad I found it!

Success! I used a piece of aquarium air hose, about 6" long, and connected that to the small, vertical outlet. Then I used a beer bottle to catch water out of the 90° outlet. But, when I turned the whole thing upside down, the water drained out of the air hose, instead of into the bottle. The water ran out smoothly in less than a minute! I find that a flat head screwdriver worked well to slide the hoses off of the outlets. Thanks for the instructions!

Now...thanks to you (and a grand hunt about the house for straw pieces) my machine works again. I did just what you said and the water came pouring out!!! It now works like new! Thank you for taking the time to share.

Looked at a bunch of videos involving turkey basters, holding magnet in external reservoir while running machine, taking Keurig apart etc. Tried some of them unsuccessfully, found your video and(drum roll please) it worked!!!!! Thanks! I found that by unhooking the second tiny tube (I believe it's the intake from the external reservoir), same way as the larger tube, it allowed enough air for water to drain quickly...which is good cuz there is no Boba around here in SE CT! Also, make sure top of machine is fully seated when replaced or it will not close properly. I had to remove those tiny screws again, reseat the top, then screw tiny screws back in again. That was my mistake. This video is quicker, easier and so much more helpful than all the other videos I watched and tried unsuccessfully, as it actually works! Btw, this never would have come to me on my own so good work there!!! Thanks again!

For anyone attempting to do this, putting it back together can be challenging. The piece that unscrews off has to line up perfectly. Even if you line it up and flip it upside down, it may unset the process and it won't close. It doesn't help that the screws aren't magnetic. What worked for me was lining it up, then I had to lay on my back with a flashlight pointed up, and it was trial and error because at times the screws would fall off.

Excellent video. Finally got a new keurig coffee maker which has so many more and new features. Wanted to store this one for possible emergency use, but wasn't storing it in Florida garage with the water in the tank. Perfect instructions. The only issue I had was getting the two screws back on and then closing the top. The top wouldn't close, and I finally forced it and it fit like a glove.

  • @ANDYTOROK99

Just a follow up on my earlier comment. I did as you showed and it worked two cups of drained water as a result. I then re-assembled and tried brewing again and there was no problem starting again with the empty tank. Couple pointers - for those as uninitiated a myself naturally one has to turn the Keurig upside down for the water to drain. The water drains through the thin straw. I had thought it would drain out of the tubes. also, the lid may not come off easy because the back end has two small "hooks" that fit into slots so you may have to tip the top up and move it to the rear to "unhinge" it before getting it off.

This works. However, I just undid the longest tube going toward the cup filler on the top and the lower one on the L-shaped bracket and used the long tube as the vent to allow air back. Once it turned over, it drained fast. I did not undo the tube coming from below with the U-shaped neck. This wasn't necessary. Thanks for this great tip.

If you can't slide the top off, there are 2 slots next to the resevoir put a screw driver up that back slot push up and it will come off. As far as the water just pull the big plug off and the plug that goes to the cup. Tip it sideways and the water will start coming out. No straws needed. Or turn it upside down in your sink and it will flow out of the tube.

I have a K 36 model (with milk frother). The top comes off without taking out screws because there are none. When you lean the machine back and lift the handle you will see two clips that hold the top on. At the top between the two clips (lean the machine further back if necessary) at twelve o'clock there is wide space. I put a regular kitchen knife in that opening and gently pushed forwards and backwards (knife at an angle against both points of contact, push forward against the closest part of the machine and backwards to you against the other point of contact) which caused the lid (or cover or top) of the machine to slide forward so the two clips could slide out of the openings. DON'T try to push the two clips simultaneously thinking this will free the top. You may end breaking one or both clips. Then I undid the larger of the two visible tubes (the one which feeds the water into your cup). I turned the machine upside down and then lifted the handle as if I were putting in a K cup. This caused the water to flow out of the reservoir. To put the top back on lower the handle as if you wanted to brew a cup of coffee. Slide the cover to the back (you may have to angle it down a bit) where it would be unattached and then gently push down the front while gently moving the lid forward so the clips can align and pop into place. You may have to gently and slightly pull up on the handle as you do this. DO NOT FORCE ANYTHING. It will pop into place very easily if you do it right. Easy peasy.

I just tried a different method to drain a K-Select model, and it does appear to work. I plugged in the machine with no water tank attached, and the "Add Water" light was shining. I then attached a half-full water reservoir and the machine proceeded to heat up the internal water reservoir.
Once the machine was finished heating the internal water, I raised and lowered the brew head handle and pressed the button for the largest cup size. I then immediately removed the external water reservoir and the machine continued the brewing cycle. Only a few ounces of water were dispensed, and I turned the machine off about 10 seconds after the water stopped dripping out.
I don't know if the internal reservoir was completely emptied, but this is probably the best that I can do without a partial disassembly of the Keurig. I recently got a new K-Select machine, and I'll be storing this old machine as a "backup" coffeemaker. The old one does brew coffee, but will no longer pump any air through at the end of the cycle.

There are 2 plastic "hooks" located toward the opposite end from the 2 screws molded into the plastic cover. To get the top cover to come off, open the Kcup lid fully, remove the 2 screws, slide the top cover slightly toward the rear of the machine while lifting. The cover should just slide right off...no problems. Reassemble in the reverse order, making sure the 2 hooks have engaged properly by sliding the cover forward before replacing the 2 screws.

I have a different model. Took out the 2 screws like yours, then had to remove the silver press down handle with a star-shaped screwdriver. I detached 1 zip tie from the rubber tube turned it upside down and mouth-blew air through the bit that sticks out on the outside that the tank hooks onto. Got it almost completely empty. A magnetic screwdriver would have helped to get the 2 screws back in.

There is a small disc bobber for the water level inside the water reservoir tank. All you have to do is hold that up with your hand while running a cup and it will drain the tank without any screwdrivers or voiding any warranty. The option in this video is without thought

    • @CherylJWhitney

That little disk is not on all models. The model he is using has no float disk in the reservoir.

I really don't get it, wish you would have had someone filming, while you actually drained it.

The second hose he pulls off, or what he calls outlet number one, is a little nipple with a tiny hole not conducive to free draining. I jammed a straw on it (plastic one from sports bottle that drew from bottom of bottle) and was able to blow about 1/3 of tank out the hot water hole. Then I turned machine upside down and sucked the rest out.

Arghhh! We ended up having to take the tube off that goes to the very front of the machine (where the water goes into the pod). THEN, the water came out. However, we are having a difficult time getting the top piece lined up so it will close again. Trial and error (mostly error), I guess!

Yeah. It was difficult fo me too. A magnet bit might help. I hope it works out! ✌🏾💚

how to empty the tank on a K80 without disassembly?

  • @MrMPRandGumbo
    @MrMPRandGumbo 4 года назад +2

Bought a new K50 from Amazon on Thanksgiving 2019. Coffee that comes out of it isn’t hot enough, and doesn’t taste as good as the coffee made in my $15 drip coffee maker. Called Amazon to return. They provided a full refund AND told me to keep the Keurig for free. Odd. So I thought that it was a good idea to keep the Keurig, if I could drain the internal tank. So I took the two screws out of the top, pulled the top cover off, to find that there is only one hose visible on this newer K50; I.e. the internal view is totally different from the one in the video. Since I have nothing invested in this, with no way to drain the tank, I’m going to donate this junk to someone that can use it. I’ll never buy another Keurig.

Instead of straws can you just store it upside down and the water will just drain?
