People say about Jack Nicholson's role and how hard it would be to fill his shoes, but to me the Dark Knight series is the best of Batman I've seen till date and Heath Ledger gave an absolute Marvel of the Jokers anarchy. Christopher Nolan is an amazing director and I really do hope that someone can stand up to this Jokers performance because I was blown away and I wanna be blown away more. Salute Heath Ledger, who took things of the classic character in the Modern era and still stands un-comparable...Thank you for entertaining us with an everlasting performance that left us asking for more
I was going to art school downtown Chicago during the filming of this movie. It was amazing to come out of class and see helicopters flying overhead and streets blocked off. This will forever be the most realistic version of Batman I've ever experienced.
Even though I was alive back then it’s so hard to remember a world when Jack Nicholson was the bar for live action Jokers and Heath yet wasn’t. Nowadays Heath is always the bar it seems. He smashed everyone’s doubts for sure
4:06 - Great security on that set. Someone filming the cast and crew with a cell phone could easily have been somebody with a gun, and they were only about 100 yards away. Wow that’s great security they had there, bravo.!!!😆👍🏻
2022 and we’re still talking about this, Ledger started a whole new perspective on this character which allowed Phoenix to have his dark version of the joker
What Heath Ledger brought to the table with his interpretation of The Joker is just mind-blowing! To this day, I have not seen a better look or characterization of The Joker. But I realize - this is just my opinion. Not everyone has the same appreciation for certain aspects of art and/or performance. The world would be a boring place if we all agreed with everything all the time.
I remember constantly watching the tape of Burtons film. Nicholson was my all time favourite actor as a kid. When they were doing a SECOND Joker it seemed impossible. Jack owned the role, his face literally has a rictus grin. It seemed impossible to separate him from the character. I only knew Ledger from Brothers Grimm and didn’t know him. It’s kinda sad how we went from these two in twenty years to having them be churned out after each other. Leto was just a marketing gimmick. Phoenix was bloody amazing and thankfully didn’t feel like a copy. Phoenix made it this performance that I had to keep reminding myself was the character. Jack will always be my favourite but this role (normally) seems to bring the best in its performers.
Who is the guy in the back of the bus that is laying down and then puts his arm up pointing forward? That wasn't the joker. The joker sits down and fixes his hair.
it's good that didn't use that footage of Heath in the school bus, because what made the joker so ominous was the mystery of his personal life and where he would go in between sequences. Because whenever he showed up, it meant it's going down. But showing that would almost eradicate that mysticism and feel almost "first-person" with him. Unlike Joaquin's joker, that's not what works in Dark Knight. It's his presence which forms the greatest of performances.
Christapher Miele well said👌🏽 just rewatched it today’s after seeing Joaquin’s performance, and you simply cannot compare the two. They were both spectacular in their own way and captured and delivered the joker persona perfectly for their movies.
Christapher Miele I know I was agreeing with you. In The Joker we got see how he became “the joker” and the pain he carries inside that consumed him, but that same pain sets him free in the end. whereas in dark knight he’s already the joker and he’s in full villain mode and every time he’s on screen he’s causing some sort of chaos. People try to compare the two but you really can’t. just appreciate both performances.
The joker is one character that few can portray and only one can master heath ledger really mastered the joker the other ones was cartoonish but still good heaths was so realistic you felt like this was the actual joker. No over dramatic smile, no over dramatic plot. His plots were simple yet hard to understand until it all fell into place. It always felt like he was ten steps ahead, whereas the usual villains were maybe a step ahead for a little bit. The things he said felt almost manic, but also controlled. I don’t feel anyone can top this performance he was the joker.
It’s so unfair that Heath never got to see his masterpiece. He set the bar so high, and to me has become the most iconic villain.

definitely the most realistic version of the villain if he was a real person. Ledgers' joker is THE legend.
05:34 Everything Nolan Said about the Hospital Destruction scene regarding which scenes to put in the final cut is absolutely true.
This shows how great his film sense is. He is a freaking masterclass director who knows his stuff masterfully.
He could have combined two of those angles. Joker sitting and not looking behind is such a psycotic way to do, marvellous.
Heath, I still love you
we all do
Me too
Heath is an absolute legend. Thank you for existing ❤
Most incredible performance of Joker by Heath Ledger. Look at him!! Woah! I have watched others, I liked them but Heath Ledger just blew my mind and will always be remembered as joker for me.
The shot of him not looking at the explosion inside the bus and sitting there silently is eerie. You can sense the kind of sick imagination and plans that had been going through the joker's mind.
Legend. RIP Heath Ledger
I still can't even slightly recognize him in costume. It's like his mannerisms, facial features, entire persona changed while in character
Whenever I talk about joker and first name goes to heath ledger.
Because I love in all time.
But now phoenix is good.
Now Joaquin Phoenix best Joker ever
@@jokervsbatman5746 yes you are right but heath is the joker
@@jokervsbatman5746 that's not the best
No one can outdue his Joker hes definitely a legend RIP Heath
*Heath Ledger 'is' the greatest Joker* 🃏
*. . . he still is!!* 🎭
“I’ll settle for his loved ones.” Loved that tone!
The shot of the Joker on the bus after blowing up the hospital! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Yesss!!!
Sorry Joaquin ,
Ledger is the one true joker for me
Joaquin Phoenix way better than him
Joaquin Phoenix best Joker for me.Sorry to Heath
@@jokervsbatman5746 Joaquin's joker is good but he is not in his prime yet while heath's joker is in his prime and more mature and darker than Joaquin's joker
We will never see Phoenix Joker in a Batman film and we'll never see his Joker become a crime boss like Heath's Joker. Heath's is the best still.
No, they're both great.
The pressure of Hollywood wiped my guy's nose clean smh. Best joker every bro.
Any BTS footage of Heath acting as the joker when the cameras aren’t rolling is a gem
This was the best villain of all time glad I experienced it thank you HEATH
His swansong was one which will echo throughout the history of cinema. Rest easy, Heath Ledger.
is this a Mark Hamill Joker's reference in the game?
It makes me so sad that I’ve been obsessed with this movie since I was a kid but now I’m almost as old as heath when he died 😢
Ty for this
He put on a master class with this performance! This was legendary! Jack was great but Heath showed the darker side of the joker! I love this movie because of how deep he went into character.
Man he truly was the best joker ever! I hate we never got a second part. And sad he didn’t get to see how much people love this joker
Some people like to say that he only got the recognition for this role because he passed away afterwards. Not true. He did an incredible job.
1:32 That's literally Joker right there.
You can hear him speaking with his Austrian accent if you listen closely may he r.I.p
@@drestep4830 what he was saying?
People say about Jack Nicholson's role and how hard it would be to fill his shoes, but to me the Dark Knight series is the best of Batman I've seen till date and Heath Ledger gave an absolute Marvel of the Jokers anarchy. Christopher Nolan is an amazing director and I really do hope that someone can stand up to this Jokers performance because I was blown away and I wanna be blown away more. Salute Heath Ledger, who took things of the classic character in the Modern era and still stands un-comparable...Thank you for entertaining us with an everlasting performance that left us asking for more
Really wish they would release a directors cut one day with all the behind the scenes and deleted stuff . Would love to hear and see heath
4:36 “He never looks back” While he’s literally looking back 😂
Noticed this too😂
its actually improvised because the building didn't do anything and he acted like he was getting it to work, he went along with it
@@duelcomplexity It’s not that deep bro
@@Crashoverride1234 dumbass that is what actually happened
@@duelcomplexity I’m talking about the timing of when he said he didn’t look back at the same time he was looking back. Move along dumbass
Joker made history and he'll be remembered for centuries
Nobody can change that
Heath will always be the #1 joker in the world. Rest in piece.
Imagine driving to work in that industrial area and seeing a massive explosion
He will always be the GOAT.
R.I.P. Heath Ledger
4:06 - Great security on that set. Someone filming the cast and crew with a cell phone could easily have been somebody with a gun, and they were only about 100 yards away.
Wow that’s great security they had there, bravo.!!!😆👍🏻
Heath did the job for the “would be” shooter in killing him.
Heath ledger as the Joker in this film was the best on screen performance I have ever seen incredible acting.
That's probably because you sit and watch anime porn all day everyday. This would definitely be a step up from that, I agree
@@dudedog7914 your the Muppet that watches anime porn wor kid. I just like his performance in that film
According to me, both heath and Joaquin are great....the only difference is Joaquin became the joker....but heath lived as the joker 🃏🔥🖤
That shot in the bus is GREAT, but it’s a sign of a great director that Nolan recognized that the scene worked fine without it and cut it.
Who is the guy in the back of the bus that is laying down and then puts his arm up pointing forward? That wasn't the joker. The joker sits down and fixes his hair.
Heath was the greatest joker ever and i do not think he will ever be beat. Grestest acting job there is when he played the joker
it's good that didn't use that footage of Heath in the school bus, because what made the joker so ominous was the mystery of his personal life and where he would go in between sequences.
"Nobody wanted to go against Jack Nicolson's shoes."
It all seems impossible until it is done.
All Jokers are amazing. They all have something to offer to this amazing character ❤️
U can't put it in words. This movie is still unbelievable 13 years on. Its almost as if the universe alligned
Ok this is golden material! More of Heath behind the scenes!
god will never forgive us if we compared pheonix and heath ledger playing jokers character...both are amazing.
which god?
I miss seeing Heath Ledger in movies! Loved him
The joker is one character that few can portray and only one can master heath ledger really mastered the joker the other ones was cartoonish but still good heaths was so realistic you felt like this was the actual joker.
Its been 14 years and i still get upset that heath never got to see his best work ever.
heath ledger AKA the greatest joker of all time with his famous phrase " why so serious " RIP heath ledger
