It’s so far ahead of its time. Back in 2009, I couldn’t physically afford to upgrade my PC past the bare minimum so I played at minimum settings. Now with my 2080 Ti, the detail is remarkable. And this is a game over 10 years old!
I love how dice didn't put any stupid things like hearts for how much life you have left or how much time you need to pass a level or even anything on the screen. This is one of the best games ever!
This sequence... it captures the feeling of parkour perfectly. I mean, I'm only an amateur traceur, but I know that feeling so well. Such a beautiful game. Shame the sequel has been canned.
This game was the game that made me realize I have very severe pilot's sickness. Christmas morning with my brand new Xbox360 and couldn't even play it without feeling like I was going to throw up. Still love it though lol. Man I miss my 360.
i absolutely love the intro to this game.for some reason it makes me feel melancholy.they had better release a follow up to this (i know they are ;-) one of my top 5 games ever made.
Honestly, remastering this game and then making a proper sequel might be the only way to revive this franchise. They just need to take the time to do it properly. They can't let such a great story go to waste like that.
@@alexrntt not really, in mirror edge 2008 the city was more natural like our cities in catalyst you dont feel you are in a city, it is like if you running on giant cpu, glass city is too artificial for me ^_^
This intro alone was one reason the game was so ahead of it's time. Especially since 3-D was still a relatively 'new' concept that game companies were dipping their toes in.
@@Furrden I prefer the original's aesthetic. If Catalyst looked anything like the original trailer, incorporated the open world decently and didn't incorporate a gadget that ruins the parkour experience, it would've likely succeeded the original. Sadly, its failure in the market likely means we won't be seeing another Mirror's edge game.
@@prince.fatalis true. But parkour has kinda died down in popularity to begin with. Dying light was the last successful parkour game and it owes much of its success to the "advanced movement" craze of the mid 2010s.
i have to say when i popped this game in for the first time and watched this opening scene, it literally took my breathe away... amazing game, fantastic gameplay, will definitely buy the 2nd one when EA brings it out :)
For anyone wondering about the music, the closest you'll get is to try and make your own version from the individual stems released for a remix contest. Even then it may be too difficult due to still having multiple chords/instruments in the stems. I guess someone will have to make a DIY effort some day
They should have kept Still Alive in the reboot, That song IS Mirror's Edge if they would have kept the music in that style, it would have gone a lot better
Never thought this game is 14 years old, when RUclips was filled with "Unregistered Hypercam 2", "Dreamscape 009", notepad tutorials and white text on a blue background.
@Alastorbeowulf You can easily rip it yourself. Download the "Firefox Download Helper" app if you have firefox. If not then download the latest realplayer and be sure to install the download attachment as well. Once you have it you just need to convert the file. =) If anyone has a better quality version of this track then please, PLEASE tell us where to find it. =)
Mirror's Edge 2 wasn't canned just postponed because of Battlefield 3. Once battlefield 3 is released They will work in it! There is also some rumored comments that they might use the Frostbite 2.0 engine! xD
@TheTAKES06 everyone needs a PC. you don't need an ULTRA MEGA SUPER GAMING PC, just enough to play newer games. a gaming PC can be pretty cheap considering you'll still need a PC for regular use. for racing games you can get a steering wheel or just a gamepad and fps games are made for keyboard and mouse. you'll get the full package on something you'll need either way. for PC there is a GREAT alternative for buying games very cheap: Steam. -
@Thisisadummy1 I don't know how's it dead, because all major titles are multiplatform nowadays. Consoles have some great exclusives, but so does PC. And I do buy games I like on steam. The issue is pricing in Eastern Europe, we can't pay as must as west.
@Thisisadummy1 well said. PC gaming isn't dead. it's not getting the respect and the titles it deserves. i never freaking got my Red Dead Redemption for PC. if more people realize how great Steam and the modding community is the PC would be way more popular than the consoles. i hate playing FPS games on consoles. it sucks. it's a challenge to aim the damn gun. piracy isn't just a problem on PC either it's just that people are to stupid to know this. also, shooter games should ALWAYS be on a PC.
Funny. The same thing is happening right now with movement against information sharing a.k.a. piracy. I hope there will be runners available to bring me cracked PC games :)
Minecraft is a prime example of why piracy is stupid. You can play offline (single player) without paying, but does that stop the idiots? Nope. They grab a hacked client and play multiplayer anyway. Mojang gives players the OPTION to play for free, but people still break the law. If you can't afford the games you play, then rather than playing illegally obtained copies of games, you should be spending that time working hard to earn the money. In short, I completely agree with you.
@TheTAKES06 - for ps3, games are NOT cheap and 30 games exceeds the cost of the console. i have 152 games on my steam account alone and and that has cost me about 179 dollars. the only thing in a PC you need to upgrade regularly is the graphics card which can be expensive, yes, but i haven't bought a graphics card that cost more than 230 dollars ever in my life, and i still get great visuals and nice speed. graphic cards can get dated after maybe 5 years. so gaming is expensive either way.
@TheTAKES06 yeah because plugging in any controller in the PC is hard. dude, i prefer playing some games with a controller, too, but keyboard and mouse for this game really is better. i tried this for PS3 and yeah it's decent but at certain parts in the game it's a bitch. the mouse is as precise as it can get. joysticks, not so much. the keyboard isn't analog and that could seem as pretty as a downside, but i have never had a problem with it. PLUS on PC you get perfect frame-rate and graphics.
Whilst it wasn't perfect they absolutely nailed the atmosphere in this game. The soundtrack and sound design truly elevates it into brilliance.
You’re wrong, it was perfect.
Bro said whilst ☠
The first 40 seconds, my God... it's so cathartic.
This!! I know your comments is 3 yrs old but wholly fuck I'm brought to tears almost every time with this intro lol
@@FlasRoose now it's 7 years old! 😭
One of the best intros of all time. The first 40-60 seconds are amazing, and the Mirror's Edge theme really makes it all click together.
These graphics still hold up today

It’s the art style. The minimalist take has made it timeless.
Gives me chills, It's partly the music and beautiful visuals and partly the idea of how far games have come.

Yep they made a "pre-quel" instead
Also apparently this (2008 version) wasn;t even the whole story
do you think they'll respond?

This game needs a remaster with actual raytracing and 8K textures.
That's what I'm saying fr

When you come here in 2020 to see what was still the best opening to a game ever.

No. I much prefer Catalyst over the original Mirror's Edge. Its open world, and nicer to look at. The art style is way better than the original.
