I think I was about 8 when I first found Mirror's Edge in the massive tray of game cases we had. My parents only let me play the Prologue and the Training Grounds , but once I got to the full game, it was a trip for me. I was always so scared of the combat. But I got better and better. I was so happy when Catalyst was announced. I got it for my 10th birthday, and I played the shit out of it. But I lost Catalyst..but now I resort to getting the most out of the first and I still love it. I never get tired of on the level 'Heat' kicking that one guard in the nuts and sending him flying off the scaffolding. Never gets old. Never. Update: Re-bought Catalyst!
That's crazy I was 8 when the original actually came out. I was also very excited about the sequel being announced. The music sure brings back some nostalgia

Both games have amazing art styles and animations for their respective worlds and stories; I love how the original was more anime-style, in a sense, just as this one is clearly intended to be a lot more futuristic. There really aren't enough games out there that emphasize parkour to the extent that Mirror's Edge does.
The first Mirror's edge was my first ever favorite game and that's how i started to love gaming, because of the story of the game, visuals and gameplay, seeing how the stories, visuals and gameplays of games have improved nowadays, it is really the most fascinating i've ever seen. Now this new Mirror's edge game has released, it has really shocked on how good the game is, knowing that my computer can't handle this beast, still i can still play this game soon. :)
The writers of this game were ahead of their time. Because even if we don't have parcour couriers, the rest of the corporate dystopia has materialized all around us.
I think Mirror's Edge is honestly the reason why I appreciate open world games today tbh It really teaches me to appreciate the open world game devs have created, even some of them can get a bit dull at points, but Mirror's Edge really taught me that none of that matters. At the end of the day, I appreciate art when it's presented in front of me even when it seems mundane to others.
wowathena I've never seen anyone else bring this up. Yes, it's like its own style or genre or whatever you want to call it. I think it's also there in Solid State Society. There's a piece of machinima called Ghost of Babel created by RisingJake that was, in part, inspired by GitS. You can really see elements of it when you watch the trailer. It's something that was entirely lost on the makers of the 2017 live-action GitS.
The storyline of mirrors edge hit me so deep and how corrupt the Kruger’s are I go out of my way to beat the living hell out of any Kruger- sec that comes across my path hope I’m not the only one
Honestly nowadays when people are trying to capture first person again, it just doesn't feel the same. This game was great at capturing first person and honestly don't feel like we need more and more first person games that don't include vr... like what's the point just let me play my 3rd person pc games in peace...

Weird how the modern graphics make the game look/feel slightly more generic. The original game seemed to feel more grittier with a kind of aesthetic dirty perfection. I can't place my finger on it. I remember it being highly stylised with the built environment looking incredibly breathtaking but because of the story, you knew that all that clean, bright concrete hid dirty nasty secrets. The only equivalent from history I can compare it with is Nuremberg in Nazi controlled Germany. No criticism of ME Catalyst as a game but the original had such a confident design intent, with a clean kind of brutalism and this doesn't quite aesthetically hit it for me.
I agree, I think catalyst has a more generically Blade Runner Cyberpunk look with a Mirror's Edge high contrast, clean colour Sheen and coat of paint thrown over it but the old city felt a lot more "lived in" and real, like it was a dystopia that could exist today.
It's because the original is a more familiar setting. Having the universe re-imagined into a futuristic neo/cyberpunk city took away that familiarity. I lived in Tokyo for three years, and every time I play the original I can't help but be reminded of my skyrise apartment, looking down on the rooftops of other buildings.
I personally loved both games.

This song, and especially the first game, captured some real proper _Ghost in the Shell_ vibes.
This, havent got this same vibe since 2nd gig ghost in the shell in 2000's. This is that soul aesthetic many creators dont really understand.
