I just started RCIA last Tuesday! After being raised in a Lutheran household, I quickly realized that I (personally) saw flaws in Protestantism and I started diving deeper into my research of the Catholic Church and ended up starting my process to convert! I’m so blessed to have the Holy Spirit open my eyes to the truth of the real church that our Lord Himself founded. Thank you for the amazing content, Lizzie! May God bless you on your journey and all aspects of your life! ❤️✝️

I was raised Lutheran, too. While I'm not yet in RCIA, I will be heading there eventually. Its amazing what reading Church history and reading scripture in context will reveal. Isn't amazing that Luther hated the epistle of James? You can't pick and choose. Blessings on your journey!

I wasn't raised Lutheran, but it was one of the many layovers on my journey home to the Church. I entered RCIA (for the second time) 18 years ago. I'll pray it takes you one less time to finish, lol.

I personally believe that Christians should try converting non believers rather than "converting" fellow followers of Christ. I'm personally fine with attending any kind of church really tbh, having had family members who've been Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist etc. There are passages in the bible I can't remember rn but essentially say don't let small elements of doctrine divide you. I personally find certain elements of the Catholic church to be very odd but admire the beauty of the tradition ( I'm middle of the road as an Anglican - it has a nice blend of tradition and Protestant elements ).

      Walter Romanoff
We must indeed be born again!
John 3:5 says “Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
In order to be born again, we must enter the new covenant by baptism into the Lord’s holy and Apostolic Church.

    • @bearistotle2820
      @bearistotle2820 6 лет назад +1

      GOD IS TRUTH
My friend, you have created a dichotomy where none exists.
When Paul talks about “works”, he is not talking about “works” as in “doing good things in general.” Rather, he is speaking about the Law of Moses and the works of it.
We are saved by the grace of Christ and entering into the new covenant, by baptism.
When we read the Epistle of James, we see that faith and Christian works are not meant to be separated. We are sanctified by ritual, by helping those around us, by living as Christians. This informs and refines our faith while our faith simultaneously increases our desire for good works.
They happen in tandem. To separate Faith and Works is to do real theological damage and to read into Paul’s writings something that was not there when he wrote them.

    • @bearistotle2820
      @bearistotle2820 6 лет назад

      GOD IS TRUTH
Okay, let’s make sure we are using the same definitions.
What does it mean to be “saved through faith”. Do Christian works such as baptism have anything to do with your salvation?

    • @bradleesargent

Funny you say that because Jesus changed the ten commandments and made lust to be equal to adultery, so yea...the church received the power and authority at Pentacost to bind in heaven and on earth and issued dogma at the first church council in Acts 16:4 which overruled the scriptural command to be circumcised with the church dogma for the Gentiles to follow only 4 of the laws of Moses which weren't even the ten commandments, so maybe you can start reading your bible in light of the truth of the church who made it.

      Darth Kater,
We see throughout the course of history what is of GOD (ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH) versus what is of "man" or NOT OF GOD (35,000 and growing Protestant divisions all stemming from a 1500's "man" Martin Luther).
      Who absolutely loves division???
Satan just laughs and laughs as Protestants continue to divide over the self contradictory false teaching "Bible Alone" found absolutely no where in the Bible. Satan becomes gleeful when a self righteous Protestant either ignorantly or purposely attacks the ONE and ONLY established Church of Jesus Christ being the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH.
Who absolutely loves unity and died for it???
John 17:21-23. Jesus Christ established ONE CHURCH, prayed and died for what???
Which ONE CHURCH that can "prove it" historically and Biblically???

I really liked this video but dating a non-Catholic is a big risk for your future family for many reasons. Especially when it comes to family planning, praying together devotions or the rosary.. It will be hard for them to fully practice their Catholic faith if your spouse is saying that Mary had more kids, you don't need to be baptized etc. No one wants to say that one of their parents faith is wrong, so they will be stuck in no mans land for fear of hurting their parents feelings or admitting that one of them is in error.

@13:00 is so true! I dated a Catholic guy for over a year in high school, and at the time I hated Catholicism (mostly just because my church was teaching the youth that it was an evil cult). But over a decade later realized he was the best guy I ever dated, even compared to my experience with other Christians. And that is probably part of why my mind is so open to looking into Catholicism now.

    Lizzie,
I am the product of one of the relationships you talk about - my father is Catholic and my mother a Lutheran. I think having a perspective from both sides is very valuable. If you are giving loving Christian witness from two differing parental examples that allows your relationship with Jesus to show you what is from him and what is just denominational differentiation.

I loved it! And i have a question tho: do you know about the Maronite Church?? It's an Eastern Catholic Church. I'm born Maronite but i used to not like it and always nag about how much I want to be Roman Catholic and here in Lebanon theres not much Roman Catholic Churches but theres Maronite Churches EVERYWHERE cause like, it's our culture. But now im OBSESSED with my church i think its SO BEAUTIFUL with all the rituals and the hymns, especially the ones talking about the passion. I think youre gonna love it SO MUCH!!

    • @JeOrtiz1
      @JeOrtiz1 6 лет назад +2

Christine Zoghbi It's beautiful to know that you are obsessed with the Maronite Catholic Church. It's a beautiful branch of the Catholic Church. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it like the Orthodox, but being Catholic? Beautiful blend. My wife, son and I watched the movie about Saint Charbel of Lebanon which was wonderful. Sadly, not much is known of this Eastern Rite Catholic church. I am one of the few who took the time to read some of this church and it's history. I went to school with many Lebanese back in the 1980's when the Civil War was raging and many of them fled to the West and Latin America.

    • @christinezoghbi4948

      J. Ortiz yessss!!!!! Saint Charbel. I love him so much!!! You should also watch the movie of St. Neamtallah (means the Grace of God in arabic) and the movie of my patron saint, Saint Rafka. Neamtallah was Rafka and Charbel's teacher. And the Maronite Church isnt Orthodoxe. Our liturgy is said in Syriac, and the Orthodoxe liturgy is in Greek. The Maronite Church is the ONLY eastern Church who doesnt have any denomination outside of the Catholic Church!

      J. Ortiz i watched the movies too and it was sooo special after the fist one (newest) i started to feel sooo interested in Charbels life i watched every video here, i red everything i found on goole and i wanted to learn more so i watched a second movie (it was in black and white) when i finished watching it i felt the presence of something, i guess it was the holy spirit i started to cry very much because i wasnt having a life of prayers and watching St Charbel giving his entire life to God was a shock for me, i use to spend the whole day watching beauty shows and videos i was so vain and all i cared about was to learn more about fashion, nails, excercise etc. Thats when i started my conversion.
      And i named my 4th son Charbel.🤗

I love your stories, Lizzie! In hopes that you won't be angry with me years later, I need to again invite you to explore a Catholic Church that is immensely beautiful: Byzantine Catholicism. I love when you talk about men, husbands, and fathers in your parish, and when you talk a little about Trevor! Religion is relationship, and living this in a parish is more important to the Body of Christ than *anything* else: God is Love! I attend a Melkite-Greek parish in McLean, VA where I have seen lives "in Christ" lived by everyone and all of our Liturgy, our meals together, and our worship unites us and fuels us to bring Christ to others. It *has* to be this way, but so often, parishioners view their church as a "sacrament factory" and miss the true reality of why we unite with our Lord in the Eucharist and live this everywhere else. I'm repeatedly told our parish is the best there is, and that if I move elsewhere, things will just not be the same. I believe we can make any parish like ours and I have seen two priests (brothers) do exactly this in parishes in California. Sadly, both parishes are far away from you: San Jose and Sacramento. We do have a parish in LA and I'm hoping you can check it out and write back to me with your impressions: www.melkitesinlosangeles.org/ I'd love to be proven wrong and I know that every parish has life and that with good lay leaders and catehists under the direction of a priest, and with good liturgical catechesis based on the Mass or the Divine Litugy, that people and parishes can be restored. Because you studied Koine Greek at Pepperdine, you will easily be able to see the beauty of our Church and be able to get our parishioners excited about what they already have. People such as myself who discover Eastern Catholicism and convey to ethnic members the beauty they grew up with and take for granted are the biggest shot in the arm a parish can have. I LOVE YOUR ENTHUSIASM! Like me, you're not afraid to make minor mistakes and learn from them in the process. You "put it out there" and invite conversation and learning! This might be another case of you "learning the ropes" and showing them to Trevor. I'd recommend that you each visit St Anne's Melkite Cathedral at least once a month in order to explore the other lung of our beautiful Church. I attended both churches each week for two years and I have been attending at Holy Transfiguration Melkite-Greek Catholic Parish continuously for 3 1/2 years now. In our parish, they love me (and everyone else) so much that I am lifted to the Glory of God. Speaking of the hope of his glory: this is the Resurrection! We have to hope for this every day and every moment. When your parish is not, you have to wake them up! I might teach the Sacraments of Initiation to Melkites for the first time this summer. It really depends on whether my pastor thinks I'm ready. I have taught Roman Catholic confirmation preparation for three years now, but the bar for teaching adults in my Melkite parish is much higher. Still, I love them, and while our parishioners better understand the Sacraments than my Roman Catholic counterparts, they still will benefit from a systematic study and I will benefit from studying together with them. Please keep me in prayer. You are always in mine. Sorry this was so long, but that's how I roll sometimes. :D . Your biggest fan for the glory of Christ! Bob

I am a Catholic dating a Protestant girl. We intend to get married someday in the future. I used to go to Protestant church services over the past year cause I had a lot of Protestant friends. But I used to go to Mass too on Sundays. I took my GF twice for Mass cause she wanted to go to support me. She wasn't that fond of it. She seems its too ritualistic and feels out of place. Last week I went for mass by myself on Saturday and accompanied her to her service on Sunday. She mentioned to me that it was important to her that we go to church together.I've started praying for her so as to have her heart open towards learning more about my faith. Just don't know how to bring out such uncomfortable topics sometimes.
P.S - I was drawn to Protestantism while attending the Protestant services as they were so cheerful and had good music. But your videos have helped me deepen my faith in being a Catholic.

Hi Lizzie ! I agree it's' good to share the Catholic faith with others close to you. I also believe living Catholic does have a long term effect on people close to us, even though we may not always appreciate it. A good friend from work went through RCIA and converted the past year from Protestantism. He was raised Orthodox. He since has returned to Protestantism, but I like to think I was not a bad example to get him thinking positively about us Catholics. Who can tell what the future hold's for him?
My late wife was raised Catholic, but fell away and married a Buddhist in college, who she eventually divorced. She was not going to any church when we met. I just kept attending mass every weekend. After many months, she started sitting in church with me some some Sundays, during part of the mass...and eventually the entire mass After several years she had her marriage annulled; and we married in a Catholic church. By the time she passed she was more devoutly Catholic than I will ever be.
Have a very good friend now who is Christian like you talked about in your other video (doesn't exactly consider Catholics actual Christians). I mention to her facts of Catholic beliefs and traditions from time to time, but try to avoid directly engaging her in any heated argumentation. I've attended her church a few times over the years, and have always tried to make her feel welcome to visit a Catholic church anytime. I feel we respect each other's choices. There's room for all faiths to get along.
You're bipolar seems sooo much more under control past couple weeks. Keep doing whatever you're doing.

Whole lives are involved in Christianity vs Catholic.
I worked at a homeless shelter run by Protestants and it was tough. I was necessary for the running of the place so being insulted was not an option after it was done more then once. But it didn't set well with the pastors who came to talk, I was a red rag.
I was assigned to give sermons once every six weeks and I worked hard on it and the sermons were good, but they were Catholic. Christ is found in the breaking of the bread, the shared story of Passover meal, cups of wine, suffering servant keyed to the crucifixion.
I was called to see the board and was told I couldn't do anymore talks because of the questions I brought up. So the personal and institutional resistance is strong in America against Catholics being Christians and there is not enough time in the day to express every repeating argument with is always coloured with anger.
You have patience and a far better spokesperson for the faith then me.
    One soul at a time.

Lizzie, I don't see why learning about Church history or the Early Church would necessarily draw Protestants to the Oriental Orthodoxy, Eastern Orthodoxy or "Roman Catholicism" (the Vatican II sect) . Could it not also lead them, in that case, to also possibly becoming Anglo-Catholics, Traditional sedevacantist Catholics (which is true Catholicism) or even the Church of the East.

I have been a Catholic all my life. At the beginning I was taught nothing. My Mother was Catholic and my Father was atheist broken away from Church of England. When I was 14 I broke away and became an atheist. Since then I have been a Protestant, a Muslim, a Baha'i and traveled thru England, France, Galatia, Ephesus searching for God's Truth. Now I am 71 (and a half) and I am about to be a grandparent. My wife is a non-believer and we have almost a half century of History together. How do you ever expect to Convert someone in this situation??? Love you guys SOOO much

Many are taught to show by actions, deeds and prayers - when talking to others about the church. Drop hints even without them knowing it. Love of Christ, Love in the Church, Love of those around you. The three important things I learned growing up Catholic.
As to dating someone non-Catholic - we are asked to let people to decide like your date did so long ago. Only, if they are truly interested in a theology discussion should the gift of the Eucharist and more should be shared in a relationship.

  • @jarielhenthorn8874

Can someone give some advice? My best friend and I are in a very chaste relationship. I wouldn't really consider it "dating" because we can't go on dates. Neither of us have our driver's licenses yet. We're committed to each other. We aren't just in a relationship for fun, but we truly care about each other. We know that love isnt a feeling, but it's something selfless that you do for someone else. We don't love the concept of modern dating because it usually involves playing games with other's emotions. We're still in high school. Recently, I've been praying and reading about Catholic dating/courtship. I've come across a lot of things saying that you shouldn't date until you are able to get married. I'm now thinking that we should try to push our romance and feelings for each other aside until we're older and more mature. I've brought this up to him, and he is willing to do whatever is right and best. We're both trying to figure out the right thing to do. It's truly a blessing that we both have traditional Catholic values. Does anyone have advice for me? Should we try not to act like we're in a romantic relationship and just be friends? Would that make things awkward? Thank you. God bless.

Sorry lizzie, i dont comment ever, but i need to say something. You have a great formation on the early church. I really recommend now that you study papal documents. They really help us understand our tradition and if youd like a list of the most important encyclicals from 1775 with pius vi i can help you get those. I dont want to be prideful but id like to say i have a good grasp of church history. The relevant church document though to this is casti conubii. It is by pius xi and he talks about marriage. In it he said that mixed marriages are very grave and should only be done in extreme circumstances which isnt " i like him" but "we have a child together and now for the sake of the child we must marry". This is something that has been constantly taught by the popes and could be argued to be infallibly a part of the ordinary magesterium. Another great document said a few things u disliked in last video. Ill have to think a little bit about what the name of and whom it was by(i think it mightve also been in casti conubii) condemned "emancipation of women" and encouraged traditional gender roles. I just got a little upset cuz u disagreeed with scott hahn and when someone disagrees with scott hahn thats my little red alert cuz i love him a lot...anyways i just wanted to say that i am praying for u and i hope u start to study protestant and post protestant history more. Love you! (Btw im not a sedevacantist plz dont think that, im just a traditionalist who attends a latin mass every sunday and a traditional ad orientem novus ordo mass daily, and i have had a very good classical education, and im sorry if i come off conceited i rly tried not to)

We agree on so many things but when it comes to the Catholic faith dogmas we end up arguing, it’s so frustrating because I don’t mean for it to end up in arguments, I just answer questions but my answers don’t make any sense to her. It’s frustrating because I give the Catholic view point according to the church but because a lot of the answers I give aren’t aligned with her Protestant theology I’m deemed brainwashed and blinded. I am contemplating breaking up with her. I’m sad.

I think that's pretty cool..

@Ian Well I'm not "obsessed" with it. I'm just curious. But I'd see why others would be. It's a huge deal. People lift Mary to the level of Jesus it seems. That's disobeying God's command.
Also, if Jesus intercedes for us, why do we need a human too? I know you don't know my tone but I hope I don't come across as offensive. I'm trying to understand the Catholic perspective and share my thoughts in the process.

    • @user-bb3ci3gn7s

@Ian but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest truly meets our need-one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.

Everyday he would say stuff like “how could u be so stupid to believe in that crap?” When the wife was 40 she died of a disease. The husband was going thru her stuff to give away to family and he found her diary. It was filled with pads after page of entries like
“Thank u Jesus for giving me the best husband ever.” And other flowery syrupy stuff in a similar vein. The husband was shocked. He ended up becoming a Catholic priest.

thirdlynephilim Yes and No, Prince Vladimir brought Christianity to Russia in 899AD when everyone was Catholic.
But it was Greek Catholic centered on the still existing Roman empire of Constantinople. There were stress between the Latin West and the Greek East with the final break in 1054AD with the separation into Latin West and Orthodox East. Russian is Apostolic Orthodox nation traced to St Andrew. The feeling against the Catholic Church is still strong in Russian, but nothing like the dislike of Western Protestantism has for Catholics, but strong as a defense of Russian culture, from the west.
There are ongoing meetings to bridge the gap, but it is no longer just theology but a strong cultural resistance.
Russia is now a wonderful Apostolic nation coming out of the shadows.
The example of who the Catholics and the orthodox are is two lungs in one body, breathing the same air. So the answer is Yes and No.
Go to Russia, it is quite beautiful.

thirdlynephilim - the Blessed Virgin is a special person but in no way equal to God. It's the whole Creator/created dynamic. She has no power of her own. But Catholics do believe her prayers and petitions may be especially influential, as they eventually proved to be at the wedding in Cana. Also the same with dispensation of graces; Catholics believe whatever agency she has was given to her by the Lord (and, of course, many Protestants don't think she is involved with graces at all).
