This reminds me of a quote from a guy named Fulton Sheen:
“There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate The Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be.” - Fulton J. Sheen

    • @rickblaine3154
      @rickblaine3154 7 лет назад +9

Fulton Sheen is right and he's wrong. The millions who hate the RCC are Atheists and Muslims and he correctly (probably) identifies them as not truly understanding the religion. Then there are millions who are in disagreement with many teachings of the RCC, yet they do not hate the RCC. They just understand that there are errors in doctrine. These people are called Biblical Christians, they come from many denominations and quite a few are from non-denominational churches. Their perception is not clouded, but made crystal clear by studying the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.

NO BROTHER HE DID NOT SAY THAT, YOU MUST HAVE HEARD THAT BECAUSE YOU WANTED TOO, YOUR BIAS. THE TRUTH IS THAT WE GET THE BIBLE FROM TRADITION. THAT IS WHAT HE MUST HAVE SAID. BECAUSE THE BIBLE WAS WRITTEN AFTER THE PREACHING. JESUS DID NOT SEND THE APOSTOLES TO GO AND WRITE A BIBLE, NO, MY FRIEND, HE TOLD THEM TO GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF MEN. OR OF THE WORLD, THE WHOLE WORLD, WHICH IS WHAT THE WORD CATHOLIC MEANS, UNIVERSAL,. THE WHOLE BIBLE, AND I AM TALKING ABOUT ALSO THE OLD TESTAMENT WAS IN TRADITION FIRST BEFORE IT WAS WRITTEN. HOW DO YOU THINK THE CHURCH WENT TO PREACH OTHER LANDS ? WHO KNEW WHAT LANGUAGE THEY SPOKE, WHAT LANGUAGE WOULD THEY WRITE THE BIBLE IN ? MY BROTHER READ HISTORY...iT WAS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH THAT CALLED ON ALL THE BISHOPS OF THE WORLD AND GATHERED THEM TO STUDY THE BOOKS THAT WOULD GO INTO WHAT WE CALL ONE BOOK THAT WAS THE BIBLE. MEANTIME THE CHURCH WAS TEACHING BY PICTURES, BYI SIGNS THE WAY GOD WOULD LET THEM TEACH OR HELP THEM. YOU MUST READ HISTORY BROTHER. THE BIBLE WAS NOT PUT TOGTHER AS ONE BOOK UNTIL AROUND THE THIRD AND FOURTH CENTURY, AND THEN WHO WOULD WRITE IT ? THER WERE NO PRINTING MACHINES, READ ABOUT THE MONKS THAT DEDICATED THEIR WHOLE LIFE WRITTING THE BIBLE BY HAND, SOME WOULD DIE AFTE JUST WRITING TWO OR THREE BIBLES. THEN NO ONE KNEW HOW TO READ, THEY STILL HAD TO EXPLAIN THINGS, HOW DO YOU THINK THAT PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT THE CRUSIFIXION TRADITION, AND ALSO PICTURES AND STATUES, ART WORK....BROTHER YOU NEED TO GO TO SCHOOL, I SAY THIS AS A BROTHER IN CHRIST.

Yes, Mary is the throne of grace. In the Bible Mary is described as being “full of grace.” As the mother of the King, she is the Queen. So yes, a beautiful, poetic title for her is Throne of Grace.
Yes, “all hope, every grace, and all salvation” was known “THROUGH HER.” This is talking about Jesus. In a very literal way, Jesus came through Mary. Without Mary’s “yes”, God’s plan wouldn’t have happened. So yes, us Catholics rejoice in her obedience and leave our prayers with her, trusting that she will place it before the feet of her Son. Think about it: At the wedding of Cana, it was Mary who brought the earthly, human concerns up to Jesus. This is exactly what we’re doing: We are bringing our earthly prayers to Mary who intercedes on our behalf.

I'm a convert from conservative Evangelical Protestantism to Catholicism. I was a very well informed Protestant. I knew my faith deeply and tried living it as best as I could. After the financial crash in 2009 I decided to look back to what the early Christians believed about politics and economics (i.e. "early Christians" meaning the NT, Martin Luther, and the other reformers). I was looking at these writings for political reasons, not for spiritual reasons. I was already a convinced Protestant.
I didn't find much about economics or politics, but I was surprised by a lot of other things. Martin Luther had a far more sacramental view than I ever realized.
I decided to look for Christians from between the NT and Martin Luther whom I could research their politics/economic beliefs. I had heard of the Church Fathers, and knew quotes here or there, but I was never encouraged to read them myself, in their entirety. If anything I had been discouraged though I never thought about why.
I read everything I could find from the 1st century up until the 5th or 6th century. I read many many many books in their entirety. I think I read everything publicly available that exists prior to Nicaea, and read quite a but of stuff after Nicaea. I actually found these whole books on Calvin College's website, so I knew I wasn't getting misleading snippets from a preacher or Catholic website.
Again, I couldn't find very much about politics/economics that was overly applicable to today, but I was completely shocked by what I read. The Church, even in the first century, was Catholic.
And when I found out what they believed about the Eucharist, and then came across evidence of Eucharistic miracles, combined with the fact I couldn't find explicitly Protestant doctrines in the first 5 centuries of Christianity... well, James White, RC Sproul, MacArthur, etc couldn't keep me Protestant. I had seen the evidence and had to convert. And I did.
    Keep researching Lizzie.

@prairie mark I was an atheist until recently, but I was raised Evangelical adjacent. I realized that I believe, and then tried to find what church most closely aligned with the teachings of Christ. All of the Protestant churches, Evangelicals especially, are just watered down versions of Catholicism which carried the traditions of the early church fathers for centuries before Protestantism changed a few things and claimed it was new.
I'm taking RCIA now and went to my first Mass today (I took my daughter as a buffer. She's 5. her favorite part was the bar that flips down for the kneeling portion.)

bhsWD96 Wow that’s awesome to hear. Glad to find you converted not just from another denomination but atheism as well. You are completely right about what you said about other Christian denominations and the Catholic Church. Other branches are just “watered down” versions of Catholicism. It’s incredible that your first mass was only two days ago, and I hope you delve deeper into this religion because we truly believe it is the right path. Not that other paths are necessarily wrong, but that’s its the best path because it is Christ’s teachings in its entirety.
Have any questions, I’d love to answer. I’m a knowledgeable Catholic myself and am seeking to bring others closer to Jesus through my knowledge of the Catholic Faith. God bless

Please do not be deceived have love in God and avoid the majority. Daniel 7:25 “He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time” The antichrist changed from Saturday to Sunday. They also changed the Ten Commandments and removed texts. (Especially Seventh day law) People bow to the pope (antichrist) and pope acts as he is a god.
The Bible indentifies the Roman Catholic as antichrist (changing law and times, blasphemy, prophercized around 567 BC) and at Revelation 17:9 “The Seven heads are the seven mountains on which the woman is sitting.” I dare you to search on Google: Cities seven hills. Reply to me your response and what you searched up. Answer: The seven mountains and the Seven cities is the Vatican City which is where the antichrist Roman Catholic/pope is.
Revelation 17:4 “The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet (red), and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality.”The first beast which is a woman on a horse that is drunk with luxury has specifically red and purple clothing. The popes in the Roman Catholic system has them wearing red shirts and purple shirts.
1 John 2:22 “Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.” Pope is denying the word of God and making everyone worship different Gods which God says Isaiah 44:6
“Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god” Which The Bible is the in Truth and the only True Gods is God The Father “I am”, BC Savior Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit!

I DARE YOU to watch the entire video. I’m not becoming Catholic! But I know SO MANY people who have converted into Catholicism and I finally did research to find out why. The Early Church is WAY DIFFERENT than what I thought and I’ve been obsessively researching the past few months. I made this for anyone who’s where I’m at right now, because it’s painful and confusing coming to terms with the history. And I wrote A POEM about all of how I feel within this: www.lizziesanswers.com/i-have-questions/ because it is TOO much to process. Remember as you watch this that I HATED Catholicism all of growing up and I never wanted it to look good or be right. And I don’t want Protestantism to look bad. And it isn’t. I LOVE Protestantism. I LOVE Church of Christ and I believe so strongly that God is fully present and working through every type of church, despite any flaws or weakened theologies or misinterpretations.
If you are Catholic or Orthodox and have watched my previous “What I LOVE and HATE” videos, thank you for commenting and praying and emailing me. Thank you for being so chill and loving. Thank you for taking time to help me understand. Jesus has become so much more real and vivid to me because I feel like now I'm experiencing Christianity within its 2,000-year history and within the context of all the heroes of the faith. The Bible has deeper meanings and it feels ALIVE so much more intensely than I ever could’ve imagined.
Like I said, I could’ve made a 30-minute-intro explaining everything that’s happened with me and God and in my thinking. It has been these dramatic emotional shifts and it is because people were praying. If you want to keep praying, pray for me to have peace (because it feels chaotic) and for everyone in my life to be able to understand, for me to have persistence to keep reading and for my emotional intuitions to match up with truth.
If you’re Protestant and comfortable, DO NOT start researching “just for fun” like I want to warn everyone, because I don’t want to force this onto you. Curiosity is MY VICE and I’m so impulsive and it has led to me finding out so much that I didn’t want to know and crying all intensely because it’s way way different than what I thought. Understanding the Early Church makes Protestantism look bad. So STOP NOW if you don’t want to know. I think you can fully find God within Protestantism and you don’t NEED to change, but I also think that if everyone knew ALL the information, they’d WANT to become Catholic or Orthodox. And I want to give everyone the opportunity to have that choice. There are core parts of Christianity missing from Protestantism- beautiful parts! God is SO AMAZING and if you’re missing some of that beauty it’s still amazing and euphoric and intense spiritual growth and dramatically changing the way you live and understand life. But if you want more depths of beauty of God while on earth, it’s out there.
And like I said throughout the video, I like the Orthodox Church way more. It’s more pure to me in its theology. Especially about the cross and what it meant when Jesus came to earth. Penal Substitutionary Atonement theology and Original Sin I reject. But Byzantine and Eastern Catholic Mass feels like being in Heaven in the throne room… this amazing immersive experience and everyone should go once and just feel it out!

I have a lot of respect for you after watching this video! (First time I've seen your channel) I converted to Catholicism 2 years ago and my Baptist family is still against it and still holds onto their preconceived notions about it, no matter how I try to explain our beliefs to them. I applaud your willingness to actually do research about the faith and understand it for yourself. With that being said, there's still so much for you to learn! I'm still learning. It's incredible-- 2,000 years of history! I encourage you to watch Dr. Scott Hahns talk "the 4th cup". This is about Jesus' sacrafice and the Eucharist. I've seen it multiple times and it still just blows my mind each time I watch it. I will spare you a novel but I invite you to research deeper into the topic of love and sexuality. the theology of the body by Pope John Paul II is a great place to start. Also, Rome Sweet Home by Dr. Scott Hahn and his wife Kim is about their conversion and in it they discuss how they went from using contraception to not. There's way more to it than just "don't do this". I'm also engaged so my fiancé and I are taking Natural Family Planning classes. Its a great course for many reasons. One being that you have a better understanding of how your body works, and another being that you learn what the church really teaches about love and sex. Basically, the idea is that we are called to love our spouse as God loves us. I don't want to ramble on but feel free to talk with me more. I am really impressed with how you presented everything in this video. Keep it up! Don't stop learning (:

      @sterry1962 7 лет назад +1

Kim Hahn actually was assigned a group research project in college way before they ever even considered the Catholic Church. Her group was studying the history of contraceptive theology from a Protestant perspective and what they learned blew the entire class away! She and Scott stopped using contraceptives way before they looked at Rome.

    • @chrispowell1768
      @chrispowell1768 7 лет назад +1

It would be nice to know what they were "Blown away" about. I think there is a lot more unbiblical views in Roman Catholicism about sexual ethics then most think. The issue of contraception is an issue where one has to be careful, because it can get anachronistic when we try to make an ancient text like the Bible answer questions concerning modern medicine and technology. If a pill is truly contraceptive, then it doesn't have the effect of an abortion although there are still ethical issues applied and it is problematic to speak of one "Protestant perspective" as if it has to function like the Roman Catholic Church in making the church the authority on these issues. There are different perspectives in Protestant churches and some are not biblical at all, in fact, many Catholics and Protestants in high positions of authority in their respective churches even support abortion. One must go to the scriptures to settle the issue and use it as carefully as possible to draw out a consistent bioethic. The most one can say is that contraceptions are permissible at least in that they aren't criminal in taking the life of an unborn child although an argument can be made as to whether it is problematic.

In Deut. 25 God slew Onan for "spilling his seed on the ground" in not wanting to get his brother's widow pregnant. (Some argue that he was killed for disobeying a transitory precept of the Mosaic law in not raising up offspring for his deceased brother, but this is not true as Deut. 25:9 shows that the penalty for not raising up offspring for one's deceased brother was public humiliation, not death.) What are your thoughts regarding how this applies to "modern medicine" and contraception?

      Matthew 16:22-23 KJV
Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. [23] But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

@Don Espoleto Jesus never says that Peter is the rock. Can you read? He is obviously talking about himself. Jesus is the rock!
      Matthew 16:15-18 KJV
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
[16] And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
[17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
[18] And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Obviously a reference to Jesus himself. Just like the rest of the bible tells us.

God bless you for seeking the truth and researching, not just taking the local pastor's interpretation of Catholicism, the Bible, etc. as "law". I was raised in the Church of Christ tradition also, but had so many questions about the beginnings of Christianity and the early Christians that could'nt be answered to my satisfaction in that church, so I researched as well and ultimately became Catholic when I was 23. I'm 60 now and love my church and the Catholic faith more every day. We are taught to always have a questioning attitude. You know, Paul said to "work out your salvation with fear and trembling". I think that means always questioning and asking God for the wisdom and courage to find and live the truth.

There are so many people here who clearly love Jesus and know their scripture well, but just don’t understand the Catholic doctrines that they’re arguing against. Also, I was hoping that for a video such as this, Christians would at least be able to maintain an appearance of civility, but apparently this is not so.

TwwwJ JwwwT Because Luther encouraged people to become their own Pope. It has created division as a result. Jesus wanted his church to remain united. Your faith is an offshoot of Protestantism, a faith that is still divided with each other. The Catholic Church remains united due to Christ’s promise that it will never be divided. It’s 2000 years later and the Catholic Church is still united.

caracal82 Hello I am sorry if this may offend you but I need to speak what is truth.
Revelation 17:4 “The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet (red), and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality.”The first beast which is a woman on a dragon that is drunk with luxury has specifically red and purple clothing.
“Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god” Which The Bible is the in Truth and the only True Gods is God The Father, Savior Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit!

I am British Muslim of Ahle Sunna wal Jamaat.
All christianity and judaism are lost due to alterations done by roman/european pagans since 325 AD.
I seek to deliver message of truth to the new generations including children who don't know the real message of Jesus (peace be upon him) as means to shed light upon the truth. The Quran also explains about the *miracles of Jesus (peace be upon him), his message, his disciples* and what is mentioned about them. Here are the verses of:
the disciples of Jesus (peace be upon him)
*When Jesus found Unbelief on their part He said: "Who will be My helpers to (the work of) Allah?" Said the disciples: "We are Allah's helpers: We believe in Allah, and do thou bear witness that we are Muslims.* (Sura Imran 52)
*"Our Lord! we believe in what Thou hast revealed, and we follow the Messenger; then write us down among those who bear witness."* (Sura Imran 53)
*"And behold! I inspired the disciples to have faith in Me and Mine Messenger: they said, 'We have faith, and do thou bear witness that we bow to Allah as Muslims'".* (Sura Maida 111)
the good news about birth of Jesus (peace be upon him).
*Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah; "He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. And he shall be (of the company) of the righteous." She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man hath touched me?" He said: "Even so: Allah createth what He willeth: When He hath decreed a plan, He but saith to it, 'Be,' and it is! "And Allah will teach him the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel, "And (appoint him) a messenger to the Children of Israel, (with this message): "'I have come to you, with a Sign from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah's leave: And I heal those born blind, and the lepers, and I quicken the dead, by Allah's leave; and I declare to you what ye eat, and what ye store in your houses. Surely therein is a Sign for you if ye did believe; "'(I have come to you), to attest the Law which was before me. And to make lawful to you part of what was (Before) forbidden to you; I have come to you with a Sign from your Lord. So fear Allah, and obey me. "'It is Allah Who is my Lord and your Lord; then worship Him. This is a Way that is straight.'" When Jesus found Unbelief on their part He said: "Who will be My helpers to (the work of) Allah?" Said the disciples: "We are Allah's helpers: We believe in Allah, and do thou bear witness that we are Muslims. "Our Lord! we believe in what Thou hast revealed, and we follow the Messenger; then write us down among those who bear witness."* (Sura Imran - 45-53)
Birth of Jesus (peace be upon him)
*So she conceived him, and she retired with him to a remote place. And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm-tree: She cried (in her anguish): "Ah! would that I had died before this! would that I had been a thing forgotten and out of sight!" But (a voice) cried to her from beneath the (palm-tree): "Grieve not! for thy Lord hath provided a rivulet beneath thee; "And shake towards thyself the trunk of the palm-tree: It will let fall fresh ripe dates upon thee. "So eat and drink and cool (thine) eye. And if thou dost see any man, say, 'I have vowed a fast to (Allah) Most Gracious, and this day will I enter into not talk with any human being'" At length she brought the (babe) to her people, carrying him (in her arms). They said: "O Mary! truly an amazing thing hast thou brought! "O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a man of evil, nor thy mother a woman unchaste!" But she pointed to the babe. They said: "How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?" He said: "I am indeed a servant of Allah: He hath given me revelation and made me a prophet; "And He hath made me blessed wheresoever I be, and hath enjoined on me Prayer and Charity as long as I live; "(He) hath made me kind to my mother, and not overbearing or miserable; "So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again)"!* (Sura Mariam 22-33)
*The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: "Be". And he was.* (Sura Imran - 59) *And We made the son of Mary and his mother as a Sign: We gave them both shelter on high ground, affording rest and security and furnished with springs.* (Sura Mou'minoun - 50)
Jesus (peace be upon him) as a prophet.
*Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)."* (Sura Baqara - 136)
*We have sent thee inspiration, as We sent it to Noah and the Messengers after him: we sent inspiration to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and solomon, and to David We gave the Psalms.* (Sura Nisa - 163)
*Christ the son of Mary was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how Allah doth make His signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth!* (Sura Ma'ida - 75)
*He (Jesus) was no more than a servant: We granted Our favour to him, and We made him an example to the Children of Israel.* (Sura Zukhruf 59)
The message of Jesus (peace be upon him)
*And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah.* (Sura Ma'ida - 46)
*O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not "Trinity": desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs. Christ disdaineth nor to serve and worship Allah, nor do the angels, those nearest (to Allah): those who disdain His worship and are arrogant,-He will gather them all together unto Himself to (answer).* (Sura Nisa - 171-172)
*And (Jesus) shall be a Sign (for the coming of) the Hour (of Judgment): therefore have no doubt about the (Hour), but follow ye Me: this is a Straight Way. Let not the Evil One hinder you: for he is to you an enemy avowed. When Jesus came with Clear Signs, he said: "Now have I come to you with Wisdom, and in order to make clear to you some of the (points) on which ye dispute: therefore fear Allah and obey me. "For Allah, He is my Lord and your Lord: so worship ye Him: this is a Straight Way." But sects from among themselves fell into disagreement: then woe to the wrong-doers, from the Penalty of a Grievous Day!* (Sura Zukhruf - 61-65)
*And remember, Jesus, the son of Mary, said: "O Children of Israel! I am the messenger of Allah (sent) to you, confirming the Law (which came) before me, and giving Glad Tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad." But when he came to them with Clear Signs, they said, "this is evident sorcery!"* (Sura Saf - 6)

All due respect, Muhammad (peace be upon him) completed the religion, the same religion that was bestowed to Prophets Adam down to Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and ultimately Muhammad (peace be upon them). Islam was never an offshoot rather it’s always been present since the beginning of time, the reason why true christianity resounds with Islam is because it was initially Islam. There has been much added/removed from the bible’s that taints it’s authenticity in comparison to the Quran. Not here to convince you but to share our view and the truth.

Just a correction though. We, Catholics, do not believe in Penal Substitution Theory. We believe in Satisfaction theory as presented by St. Thomas Aquinas. Here are his conclusions:
    1. punishment is a morally good response to sin: it is a kind of medicine for sin, and aims at the restoration of friendship between the wrongdoer and the one wronged.
    2. "Christ bore a satisfactory punishment, not for His, but for our sins,"
    3. and substitution for another's sin is entirely possible as long as the offender joins himself in will to the one undergoing punishment.
Unfortunately, I am not that familiar with this idea, in the same way, that I am not familiar with the idea of penal substitution.
anyways, I always love your videos.

    • @LizziesAnswers
      @LizziesAnswers  7 лет назад +2

What you just explained IS Penal Substitutionary Atonement! There might be some tiny tweak that makes the "Catholic view" different, but it's definitely the same vibe as PSA. It's exactly what you explained: that Jesus justly took the punishment for us. Calvinists took your view and put it on steroids and came up with this whole "God turns his back on Jesus while on the cross" so you guys might not believe that, but the overall core of PSA you seem to hold.

    • @MartinSlovakian
      @MartinSlovakian 7 лет назад +2

As a Catholic, I have never heard about "penal substitutionary atonement" before... Jesus' sacrifice was the greatest sign of God's merciful love for humans, not of wrath of God... A father trying to save His children, wanting to incorporate them into his Kingom out of pure love because He is Love. Jesus could not be punished by God because Jesus IS God. God cannot punish himself. Punishment requieres an executioner, that is, the other party involved. Jesus' death was a sacrifice: sacrifice does not requiere other party. From what I have read there, PSA is not acceptable for Catholicism at all, it lacks any logic.

    • @notamused3715

Yes. The way I have understood our Church's teaching is that,as we are created in the image and likeness of God, we are fundamentally good and drawn to good ( which is why it has always been the tendency of human beings to search for the Divine),but because of the Fall and Original Sin,we have a weakness, a sort of spiritual wound, that makes us vulnerable to sin. This is why we baptise our babies, to heal that wound, which carries them over and protects them until they are at the age of being able to discern right from wrong, around 7 years of age, when we make our First Confession and then First Communion. Baptism is also a mild form of exorcism,as the demonic could potentially enter through the supernatural, metaphysical wound of Original Sin. I hope I have it right?I am not the most academic of people and I am open to correction!

Regarding the Catholics and protestants fighting, Irish Catholics were oppressed by the English. For example, Catholics were set up to fail financially and protestants were set up to succeed, causing Catholics to become the lower class and the protestants to become the rich and eventually owning all the land. This was after rich English and Scottish settlers came and took the land with the help of the British military. Hence why the Irish revolted against the British.

Bethany L right. He was not angry with Jesus but Jesus chose to bear the Justice God would have bestowed upon all of us past and present for the sins of all mankind. In His sacrifice He spared us from the rod, but now we have the choice to remain in a state of grace or choose to sin again so as we are given mercy instead of Justice, we can still forfeit if we do not repent and continue to repent and avoid sin. After all we are now obliged to deny ourselves to God so He will not deny us.

Hi Barn Dweller, I was Catholic until age 54 when I was born again. I even had a concelebrated Mass at my first wedding with five priests on the altar, but that didn't provide enough grace from the Sacrament of Matrimony to make the marriage last. Salvation in the Catholic church is a long process that starts at infant Baptism and ends in Purgatory after death, whereas salvation in Jesus is instant and forever. Jesus paid for all my sins in full on the cross. The work of salvation is done! Hope this helps.

Anybody notice the Apostles did not establish Protestant churches?
As an ex-atheist who floated around nondenominal churches for awhile I've noticed the Catholics have much better music.
Also noticed God used the Catholics to prevent the jihadis frome wiping out Christianity in the West as they had done in the Middle East.
Also noticed the AntiChrist has an obsession with eliminating the grain sacrifice. Can't really say the grain sacrifice was a top priority in some of these nondenominal churches, unlike the Catholics and Orthodox.
      Also, the Crusades.
Plus the Catholic cathedrals are magnificent, which is very cool.

This is exactly why I decided to watch this video. I've always been curious about the misconceptions about the Catholic Church. From my own personal experience as a Catholic, and from what I've seen, I feel it's mainly due to misinterpretations of what is being stated. No matter where we stand, we're all human, and mistakes happen. But it's up to us to find the truth, and I think because of the negativity and attitudes towards the Catholic Church, some of us feel intimidated to seek more. Secular views and personal interests may play a role as well. Even with this being the case, I'll still keep on seeking the truth. It's a scary journey so please pray for me.

It's more than disingenuous for anyone today to pretend that, prior to the Great Schism, the Orthodox did not recognize the primacy of the Bishop of Rome. Read any of the Eastern Early Church Fathers. Look at the councils. It is obvious. For instance, the fourth century council of Sardica (held in the east and attended by Bishops from east and west) in canon 4 provided that any Bishop deposed by a regional synod shall have final recourse to the bishop of Rome and was not to be replaced before a decision came from the Pope.

    • @nunyabiznez6381
      @nunyabiznez6381 7 лет назад

It is true that the majority of orthodox churches recognized the primacy of Rome at one point but not all. The ones who did were always part of the Roman Empire at one time or other but not all the apostles limited their evangelical activities to the Roman empire. Some traveled beyond and founded churches outside of Rome and NONE of those ever recognized Roman primacy either in religion or politically. Also there is no evidence scriptural or otherwise that any of the other apostles save Paul who never met Jesus, ever recognized the primacy of Peter. Peter was merely one of about a dozen apostles who happen to travel to Rome and found and lead the church there. His rise to primacy was more posthumous than anything and based more on the fact that Constantine made Christianity the official religion of Rome and Rome Ruled that region of the world. Basically Peter's primacy was more an accident than agenda.

You better check your history... this empire did everything in its power to stop the spread of jesus and his born again believer's. Fed people to lions. Burned them alive for over 300 years.........
Then adopted Christianity and started killing people who wouldn't convert.
Brought in pagans because they weren't willing to die for their gods and allowed pagans to continue pagan practices but they now had to do them "in the name of jesus" .
      Which is why it's "catholic"
Catholic means universal, as in every ancient pagan worship brought together under the cloak of jesus. This is why the Pope wears a dagon.(babylonian priests hat)
This is why easter is celebrated. (Ishtar) spring equinox.
This is why saturnalia is now called Christ's mass and is celebrated on the winter solstice.

[20]and, when that day comes, I shall summon my servant Eliakim son of Hilkiah.
[21]I shall dress him in your tunic, I shall put your sash round his waist, I shall invest him with your authority; and he will be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the House of Judah.
[22]I shall place the key of David's palace on his shoulder; when he opens, no one will close, when he closes, no one will open.
[23]I shall drive him like a nail into a firm place; and he will become a throne of glory for his family.
    Catholic Bible. Matthew 16,18-19
[18]So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my community. And the gates of the underworld can never overpower it.
[19]I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven: whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.'

    • @wilbertcarter7804
      @wilbertcarter7804 6 лет назад

Samuel Lopez that confession of Peter was pointed out that Peter was not the rock. Jesus when speaking of this rock he was emphatically talking about the earth on which they were standing. Peter's acknowledging testimony have validated God by telling him that it God in his confession that man didn't reveal that truth to another man byt God revealed to Peter that truth. You Catholics say that the Jewish born Hebrew called Cephas is your 1st pope. According to your own laws a pope chosen by your organizations by laws aren't tied to the laws of marriage. Therefore in accordance with your laws you are in violation of something you continue to uphold. Peter's own life was of Jewish custom. Marriage is 1 of them. Peter.own mother-inlaw passage of scriptures lets us know that he tok was married. They believed in following the mandate od obeying God pf being married and being fruitful and multiple replenishing the earth. So no, your trying to claim that he was your first pope is wrong. To say something about someone after they're dead and gone don't help you because you can't prove it. You call the people you claim are church fathers are in fact men who heard were church fathers. I'm sure that the people who heard about Jesus argued and debated about their beliefs. Not everyone agrees with revelations. Revelations is God exposing truth. And another question. As far as your Catholic bishops who ordained them as bishops. A bishop can't ordain someone else a bishop unless he gets his permission from an apostle. You came up with your own idea of what constitutes a bishop. Even in the eucumenical churches they gone and adopted your teachings and even ordaining women in the ministry offices. Which is an outright rebellious spirit bent on changing the truth of God into a lie.

Iveta F. If you're just ignorant and not a genuine liar, then do yourself a favour and please read the actual Catholic Catechism where it specifically states we should NOT worship Mary or the saints, then look up the difference between veneration and worship. You probably won't do these things as you're now in a culture of defiance and protestation, and somehow you guys get enjoyment at having something to protest against, I will help you with a simple real-world example. Prayer is like coming into Jesus' home to talk to Him. A Catholic greets Mary and shows her respect and honour. This pleases Jesus who welcomes us all the more heartily. A protestant just barges past Mary with a sneer and still expects to have a reception with a warm, smiling Jesus.

You seem to be confusing hating a person with hating their belief. Catholics are largely against homosexuality and abortion, but would be foolish to say they "hate" someone. Hating some's belief is not the same as hating someone. On the contrary, we're to love people. However, God wants those who believe in the true Gospel, that is that we are wretched sinners deserving hell but God sent His son Jesus Christ to die for ours sins, so that if we believe Jesus is Lord and repent of our sins, realizing that it is only by grace that we've been saved, and not by anything we could possibly do, we will have everlasting life. God wants us to hate that which is not in accordance with His Gospel.

Thanks again for a great video, Lizzie. You do so much good in promoting mutual understanding. As a Catholic, I am always telling people in my Church that we need to be more "evangelical" in speaking about and sharing our faith, and that we can learn in many ways from what you guys have done, so it's a wonderful thing that we're moving past all those centuries of hostility.
Just focusing on your critical points re: Catholicism...
One point I'd make is that in the lived experience of the Church, we really don't actually try to "define everything." Yes, we have our Catechism and many documents, and yes, these are very important. But take the analogy of how people come to believe in God/Jesus: for some people, it's based on an immediate spiritual/mystical experience of God flooding their hearts or Jesus speaking to them; for other people, it's based on a long process of researching the intellectual arguments, examining all the evidence, etc.; and many people are in between. The same with something like Christ's real presence in the Eucharist: all Catholics know it is in fact a great mystery to be experienced with the whole of our being, and some of us don't need any further explanation. But to those who want one--since, as you quote in your video, reason does not contradict faith--this theory of "transubstantiation" has been set forth, which doesn't claim to exhaust the mystery, but only to point to it in a more satisfactory way than the rival explanations on offer. "Catholic" means "universal," after all, so I think it makes sense that it offers a home for all sorts of people - those who are more mystical/ charismatic or intellectual, as well as those who are more contemplative or active, etc.
And really, the same is true for some of those "Augustinian" issues you mention, like original sin. In Catholicism, all that you really "have" to believe about this is that we're all broken and screwed up from the get-go and fall short of who God created us to be, and our only hope to reach this is the grace of Christ (one thing Catholic theology DOES affirm is that "sin" is not a reality in itself but only a privation of being, so there can be no real "explanation" for it in any case!) Yes, there have been interpretations of original sin etc. that have prevailed through the centuries, some much better than others. But it's important to remember that because of the value Catholicism does place on tradition, we're not in the habit of completely rejecting centuries' worth of reflection. Catholicism is more "both-and" than Protestantism's tendency to be "either-or" (the "Solas" etc.), so we're more inclined to take what is true from past interpretations of original sin or the atonement than reject the ideas wholesale.
Finally, I think that if you really probe into Catholic understandings of sexuality, you'll find more to appreciate. Especially in the "theology of the body" developed by St. Pope John Paul II - it is the opposite of Manichean dualism, believe me! He places great emphasis on the inherent goodness and symbolic power of the human body, particularly on its "gift" character as manifest in our being gendered beings, and the fact that our bodies are not primarily "objects/instruments" but belong integrally to our whole selves. From there he develops what it means to give the gift of our embodied selves unconditionally to another, and links everything both to our original creation and to the fulfillment of everything in the "nuptial mystery," the marriage between Christ and his Church. Landon Gavin yes I agree! I don't know why non-Catholics usually insist on an either/or approach the faith, when Catholics see it as both/and. We are such a universal & diverse Church, there is a type of spirituality for everyone in the Catholic Church. Catholicism is truly the fullness of the Christian Faith.

I’m pretty sure that has to do with a lot of other things not mentioned here. Such as church run residential schools, child predation by priests, and a not so holy history of corruption, war crimes, and all that. All of which the church only apologizes for once it has been discovered by others. Its a constant “I’m sorry that I got caught” from them. Not to mention your god who slaughters entire nations and commanded others to do so and enslave their virgin girls.

From the year AD 180, Against Heresies (Book III, Chapter 3) by St. Irenaeus, disciple of Polycarp (martyr, bishop of Smyrna) who was a disciple of John the Apostle, we see a very early list of popes written between 175 and 190, not many years after Irenaeus' Roman visit, listing the order from Peter to Eleutherius:
" It is within the power of all, therefore, in every Church, who may wish to see the truth, to contemplate clearly the tradition of the apostles manifested throughout the whole world; and we are in a position to reckon up those who were by the apostles instituted bishops in the Churches, and [to demonstrate] the succession of these men to our own times; those who neither taught nor knew of anything like what these [heretics] rave about. For if the apostles had known hidden mysteries, which they were in the habit of imparting to "the perfect" apart and privily from the rest, they would have delivered them especially to those to whom they were also committing the Churches themselves. For they were desirous that these men should be very perfect and blameless in all things, whom also they were leaving behind as their successors, delivering up their own place of government to these men; which men, if they discharged their functions honestly, would be a great boon [to the Church], but if they should fall away, the direst calamity.
"Since, however, it would be very tedious, in such a volume as this, to reckon up the successions of all the Churches, we do put to confusion all those who, in whatever manner, whether by an evil self-pleasing, by vainglory, or by blindness and perverse opinion, assemble in unauthorized meetings; [we do this, I say,] by indicating that tradition derived from the apostles, of the very great, the very ancient, and universally known Church founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles, Peter and Paul; as also means of the successions of the bishops. For it is a matter of necessity that every Church should agree with this Church, on account of its preeminent authority -- that is, the faithful everywhere -- inasmuch as the Apostolic Tradition has been preserved continuously by those who are everywhere. potentiorem principalitatem necesse est omnem convenire ecclesiam, hoc est eos qui sunt undique fideles, in qua semper ab his qui sunt undique, conservata est ea quâ est ab apostolis traditio].
"The blessed apostles, then, having founded and built up the Church, committed into the hands of Linus the office of the episcopate. Of this Linus, Paul makes mention in the Epistles to Timothy. To him succeeded Anacletus; and after him, in the third place from the apostles, Clement was allotted the bishopric. This man, as he had seen the blessed apostles, and had been conversant with them, might be said to have the preaching of the apostles still echoing [in his ears], and their traditions before his eyes. Nor was he alone [in this], for there were many still remaining who had received instructions from the apostles. In the time of this Clement, no small dissension having occurred among the brethren at Corinth, the Church in Rome despatched a most powerful letter to the Corinthians, exhorting them to peace, renewing their faith, and declaring the tradition which it had lately received from the apostles, proclaiming the one God, omnipotent, the Maker of heaven and earth, the Creator of man, who brought on the deluge, and called Abraham, who led the people from the land of Egypt, spake with Moses, set forth the law, sent the prophets, and who has prepared fire for the devil and his angels. From this document, whosoever chooses to do so, may learn that He, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, was preached by the Churches, and may also understand the apostolical tradition of the Church, since this Epistle is of older date than these men who are now propagating falsehood, and who conjure into existence another god beyond the Creator and the Maker of all existing things. To this Clement there succeeded Evaristus. Alexander followed Evaristus; then, sixth from the apostles, Sixtus was appointed; after him, Telephorus, who was gloriously martyred; then Hyginus; after him, Pius; then after him, Anicetus. Sorer having succeeded Anicetus, Eleutherius does now, in the twelfth place from the apostles, hold the inheritance of the episcopate. In this order, and by this succession, the ecclesiastical tradition from the apostles, and the preaching of the truth, have come down to us. And this is most abundant proof that there is one and the same vivifying faith, which has been preserved in the Church from the apostles until now, and handed down in truth.
" But Polycarp also was not only instructed by apostles, and conversed with many who had seen Christ, but was also, by apostles in Asia, appointed bishop of the Church in Smyrna, whom I also saw in my early youth, for he tarried [on earth] a very long time, and, when a very old man, gloriously and most nobly suffering martyrdom, departed this life, having always taught the things which he had learned from the apostles, and which the Church has handed down, and which alone are true. To these things all the Asiatic Churches testify, as do also those men who have succeeded Polycarp down to the present time -- a man who was of much greater weight, and a more stedfast witness of truth, than Valentinus, and Marcion, and the rest of the heretics. He it was who, coming to Rome in the time of Anicetus caused many to turn away from the aforesaid heretics to the Church of God, proclaiming that he had received this one and sole truth from the apostles -- that, namely, which is handed down by the Church. There are also those who heard from him that John, the disciple of the Lord, going to bathe at Ephesus, and perceiving Cerinthus within, rushed out of the bath-house without bathing, exclaiming, "Let us fly, lest even the bath-house fall down, because Cerinthus, the enemy of the truth, is within." And Polycarp himself replied to Marcion, who met him on one occasion, and said, "Dost thou know me?" "I do know thee, the first-born of Satan." Such was the horror which the apostles and their disciples had against holding even verbal communication with any corrupters of the truth; as Paul also says, "A man that is an heretic, after the first and second admonition, reject; knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself." There is also a very powerful Epistle of Polycarp written to the Philippians, from which those who choose to do so, and are anxious about their salvation, can learn the character of his faith, and the preaching of the truth. Then, again, the Church in Ephesus, founded by Paul, and having John remaining among them permanently until the times of Trajan, is a true witness of the tradition of the apostles. "

No, my prayers are for you.
As a Muslim of Ahle Sunna wal Jamaat, I am willing to point out that all christianity and judaism are lost due to alterations done by roman/european pagans since 325 AD.

The Orthodox Church rejects the use of birth control, as well. If you narrowed it down to two options, and both churches say that birth control is sinful, then how can you still think that birth control is acceptable? In fact, even most Protestant churches were in agreement that birth control was sinful up until modernism. I think you have to accept the fact that your ideas regarding the subject have been perverted by the sexual liberalism movement.
The function of eating is to supply the body with nutrients and energy. The function of sex is procreation. Taste is a pleasurable, but incidental aspect of eating. Likewise, the pleasure of sex is incidental to its actual function/purpose. To have sex without allowing for the possibility of conception is like intentionally taking a mouthful of food, chewing it up and enjoying the taste, and then spitting it out into the garbage.

Yes, yes, YES!!! Thank you for making this video, as a Catholic it is so heart breaking to need to defend our faith to our brothers and sisters in Christ but it's real and I think you did a wonderful job of it. Thank you for being truly non-biased and doing your research into our faith. To expand/clarify #10, I was always taught that the church recognizes doubt as a part of human nature, and just because you doubt a certain part of the church's teaching does NOT mean you can't still be Catholic. What you said is correct- it's ideal to agree with all the teachings, but not required.

@@wulfheort8021 You obviously have not paid much attention to all of my posts below. So, I will start again here. In Paragraph 1367 we read about one of the very basic tenants of Catholicism which is Transubstantiation and the presence of Christ in the euchaist. 1367 “The sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of the eucharist are one single sacrifice; The victim is one and the same…the same Christ who offered himself once in a bloody manner on the altar of the cross is contained and offered in an un-bloody manner this sacrifice if truly propitiatory.” Then we read in Hebrews this; Hebrews 9:22 “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” So, an un-bloody sacrifice accomplishes nothing. According to the RCC Jesus is re-sacrificed at every mass something like 200,00 times a day all around the world 24/7. God’s Word tells us in Hebrews 9:28 “28 so also Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many; and He will appear a second time,” (Note it doesn’t say many times as in every mass)

Why did you delete my questions i have asked several times on the site of yours that has more dislikes than likes,
1-If John 6 is literal language why did Jesus say, that to the people he always spoke in Parables and not literal speech, Matthew 13:34, Mark 4:34, and if Jesus words were literal why did he have to explain what he actually meant to his disciples afterwards, Matthew 13:10- 17.
2-At the Last Supper as Jesus partook of the bread and fruit of the vine himself, did he in fact eat his own body, and drink his own blood, since it supposedly changed into these things.
3-If the Mass is the same Sacrifice as that of Calvary ~ and the origin of the Mass is supposed to be the Last Supper, how can it be the same Sacrifice as that of Calvary since the Last Supper took place before Calvary
Get back with me on these questions zallowindbag

Paragraph 845-6 "Outside the Church there is no salvation." "Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse to enter it or remain in it."

Faith alone and Church Fathers to my pagan buddy Zellopossum:
Athanasius: "Not by these (i.e. human efforts) but by faith, a man is justified as was Abraham."
Basil: "This is the true and perfect glorying in God, when a man is not lifted up on account of his own righteousness, but has known himself to be wanting in true righteousness and to be justified by faith alone in Christ."
Ambrose: "Without the works of the law, to an ungodly man, that is to say, a Gentile, believing in Christ, his "faith is imputed for righteousness" as also it was to Abraham
Clement of Rome: "We also, being called through God's will in Christ Jesus, are not justified through ourselves, neither through our own wisdom or understanding, or piety, or works which we have done in holiness or heart, but through faith" (Epistle to Corinthians)
      .
Bernard of Clairvaux: "Shall not all our righteousness turn out to be mere unrighteousness and deficiency? What, then, shall it be concerning our sins, when not even our righteousness can answer for itself? Wherefore...let us flee, with all humility to Mercy which alone can save our souls...whoever hungers and thirsts after righteousness, let him believe in thee, who "justified the ungodly"; and thus, being justified by faith alone, he shall have peace with God."
Anselm: "Do you believe that you cannot be saved but by the death of Christ? Go, then, and ...put all your confidence in this death alone. If God shall say to you, "You are a sinner", say to him, "I place the death of our Lord Jesus Christ between me and my sin.""
Augustine: "Grace is give to you, not wages paid to you...it is called grace because it is given gratuitously. By no precedent merits did you buy what you have received. The sinner therefore received this grace first, that his sins should be forgiven him...good works follow after a justified person; they do not go before in order that he may be justified...good works, following after justification, show what a man has received
Chrysostom: "Again, they said that he who adhered to Faith alone was cursed, but he shows that he who adhered to Faith alone, is blessed."
Jerome: "When an ungodly man is converted, God justified him through faith alone, not on account of good works which he possessed not.
Origen: "Through faith, without the works of the law, the dying thief was justified, because...the Lord inquired not what he had previously wrought, nor yet waited for his performance of some work after he should have believe; but...he took him unto himself for a companion, justified through his confession alone."
Polycarp: "I know that through grace you are saved, not of works, but by the will of God, through Jesus Christ (Epistle of Philippians).
Do you agree with what these guys said Zill???????

Honest question: How do you deal with the main issue of the reformation which was infused righteousness and imputed righteousness? Does the Church have the divine right to mediate grace through its sacraments, Mary, and the Pope (His access to the treasury of merit) for the hope of a final justification? Or is grace imputed to us by the sole means of Faith (not the sacrament of faith, namely baptism in the Roman Catholic worldview, but the conscious act of believing and trusting) in Christ, in which his righteousness becomes fully mine and therefore I’m declared righteous?

I did love the order in that church and the people I miss tremendously I was there for six years and was asked to be an elder and also taught bible studies, by then it was too late. I thought I had found a safe place, bought all of Luther's sermons and books but I had never looked behind the curtain of history. To be deep in history is to be Catholic as they say. “There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate The Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be.” - Bishop Fulton J. Sheen.
"To study History is to become Catholic." - Msgr. Charles Pope.
What a great video!! Just a couple thoughts/comments:
Re. #2: (IMO) Martin Luther abridged the OT for political reasons. But its a fact (NOT just my opinion) that Luther also attempted to remove at least FOUR books from the NT - Hebrews, Saint James, Saint Jude, & The Revelation of Saint John the Apostle (He also wasn't a big fan of Saint Peter's letters). These he disliked for Theological reasons, because he correctly understood that each supported the True Faith and thus debunked his new faith.
FWIW, the history of the Bible is a fascinating subject for those who care to study it!
Re. #3 - Prayers for the dead pre-date Christianity. see 2 Maccabees 12:39-45; Luke 20:37-38.
I could split hairs and nit-pick a few points here and there, but overall this is such a great talk I hate to.
Buuuuuuut........., there are just a couple I am compelled to mention:
"Penal Substitution" is NOT a Catholic Doctrine. I'll repeat that, because even many Catholics misunderstand this. The Catholic Church does NOT teach the doctrine of Penal Substitution. This was not the doctrinal understanding of OT Sacrifices, and the Bible makes clear that the Crucifixion was very much a sacrifice, (in fact, it was the ultimate sacrifice). But it was NOT an exercise of GOD's Wrath upon Christ, any more than the sacrifice of turtledoves and pigeons in Luke 2:24 was GOD venting his wrath upon those little birds!!!
What was a sacrifice then? Well - you can start to understand by reading 2 Samuel 24:24.
Also, I'd respectfully suggest that your "issues" with the differences between Catholicism and Orthodoxy are really issues with Western THOUGHT vs. Eastern THOUGHT. Remember, these Churches were not located across the street from each other in Rome at the time of the Great Schism.
Its a topic worth STUDYING More before you make any decisions!!!!
Its also worth noting (and you mention this) - but Not all Catholic Churches are "Roman" - Many "Eastern Rite" churches are in Communion with the Holy See. www.catholiceducation.org/en/culture/catholic-contributions/the-other-catholics-a-short-guide-to-the-eastern-catholic-churches.html
Spoiler Alert. Apostolic Succession and the primacy of the Chair of Peter are theologically, and logically, unassailable once you learn all the facts.
BLESSINGS TO YOU ON THIS JOURNEY!!!!!

Candace - Bless your heart! I know you are only parroting the bigotry that was passed down to you, but when you examine these and other Protest-ant objections, their inherent silliness becomes obvious.
The Church founded by Christ , known today as the Roman Catholic Church, doesn't teach "man made traditions" as dogma - the Church teaches the Traditions of Christ handed down to us through through the Apostles, as guided by the Holy Spirit. Christ didn't give us a book - he gave the Apostles a verbal tradition (Matt 28:16-20; Mark 16:14-16; ), which they in turn have passed down to us in an unbroken chain.
Perhaps you should read 1 Timothy 4 again. Catholics take Marriage more seriously than Protest-ants, so much so that we deem it to be a Sacrament, and permanent. None are forbidden to marry, but some voluntarily choose celibacy - following the tradition of Elijah, Daniel, John the Baptist, St. Paul (1 Cor 7:8) and Christ himself!
Christ himself told us that not all should marry. (Matthew 19:10-12). But in general, Catholics are encouraged to marry. On the Contrary, its was Protest-ants in the US, during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries that forbid people to marry outside their own race...... Hmm......
And as far as forbidding foods, I can eat whatever I want - its the Protest-ants who forbid people from consuming the fruit of the vine, a beverage "which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth." (I Timothy 4:3)
Are you mad because Catholics Fast on special occasions? If so, don't be mad at the Church - be mad at Christ himself! (Matthew 9:14-15).
Man made holidays? Do you mean, Like Pentecost? or Easter, Christ's transformation of the Passover? Or perhaps the celebration of Christ's birth?
Worldly customs? Like Altar Calls and "Sinner's Prayers", or like canvassing neighborhoods and knocking on doors? Hmmm....
Reality is, its our Protest-ant brothers and sisters who base their faiths (all 30,000+ of them) largely on man-made doctrines, most of which were unknown in Christendom prior to the past 2-300 years........

Several people have commented this & the guy below you explained the Catholic view and it seemed exactly like PSA, so what IS the significant difference? I've actually done a lot of research on Catholic family planning and it seems like it works really well. All the metaphors between husband and wife, Christ and the Church, being open to each other as a couple in every way.... I find that beautiful in theory. But not being on birth control is terrifying to me. If I find the Papal succession to be true, I'd be willing to not be on birth control, but it's not ideal.

    • @crazycoco313
      @crazycoco313 7 лет назад +24

Here's a good article explaining the differences in the Catholic and Protestant views of atonement. The way I understand it, Christ isn't punished for our sins. He is a sacrifice that the Father accepts as good and perfect. The animals of the Old Testament weren't used for God to pour His wrath out on them that we deserved. It was an offering, a sacrifice, in reparation for sins. Also, Christ's goodness isn't simply merited to us. He actually infuses His righteousness, His grace, in us in baptism and changes us. It's about healing and justification, both. ❤️
      calvin2catholic.com/?p=313
As for the birth control... I totally get where you're coming from. I was terrified. NFP requires a level of abstinence that is neither fun nor easy. When my husband and I converted we had two kids. I told myself that it will be okay. I won't wake up tomorrow with 6 kids. I'll take it one month at a time and God gives us one baby at a time for a reason. Well, we were pregnant with #3 at that point when we made that decision. Two weeks after our conversion we found out we were expected #4 as well! 😂 So much for one at a time! Haha!
But seriously, my kids have completely changed me. Each one of them changes my heart and adds grace in my life. I'm now hoping to wake up with 6 someday. 😉 There's something about Catholic teaching that begins to soften your heart to new life. Anyway, all of this to say... if you do decide on the Catholic Church, then it will be okay. ❤️

LizziesAnswers There's something called the natural law written in our hearts. The natural law realizes the purpose to everything, including our own bodies. Although the effect of NFP may be no different to birth control pills, the pill violates the natural purpose God made us for. A sexual act must be directed to its natural end. Birth control violates that act because the end becomes redirected to oneself, the opposite of selflessness. NFP is open to life and does not violate the purpose of the marital act through a misuse of our bodies' design and purpose.

Imputed righteousness is like a snow covered dung heap (according to Martin Luther). That is not perfect either. According to your theology it will give you a ticket to heaven, but it won't change you, heal you, or help you in this life. The dung is still there. When God's grace is infused in us He changes us. He cleans us. Any "good works" we do are of Him and by His grace. We're still human and will still fall and reject that grace, but when we ask forgiveness God is always there to forgive and we are clean again. No dung.

    • @crazycoco313
      @crazycoco313 7 лет назад +12

tim spangler If Christ's righteousness is imputed to us and always perfect, then why, may I ask, would His righteousness be anything less than perfect when infused in us? We still have to choose to cooperate with that grace, but it's still His perfect grace.
      Here's an analogy:
Two patients have lost a lot of blood.
The doctors pour blood all over patient one, while patient two gets a blood transfusion. Both receive the blood they need. But which one actually received in a life-saving manner? Would it be more effective to pour it all over a person and cover them or to infuse it into a person's bloodstream? I'll take the infusion!
