This is such an introspective version - if you hadn't heard the original you would think that this song is complete, is how it 'should' be. But then, when you did see the original, plus video, it would just do your head in hearing the white hot rage behind the lyrics and the execution of the song. In this version above, check out Perry's expression at 3.21 - so sad, so full of regret, and when he later ad libs "Baby, take care...", well, it just made me cry... Amazing song, amazing band....
Perry was reflecting on his past in this version and showing his remorse because he is a good soul. I never see this kind of reversion of a song to express true feelings after the fact in other artists….same lyrics, a tiny bit of sweet words and improvising make it truly sincere and not another fake remix. Dave was great on acoustic guitar with his strong and soft tones reflecting the mood and bass and percussion went right along with the tones of this sweet version of Just Because seem soft and truly sincere. I love it and listen to it often!
I'm in love with this version of the song. It works so well in a delicate manner - and this is with my already enjoying the power of the original. I would actually like to cover this version live in a set of my own original, which is saying a lot of good. By the way, I don't expect anyone to actually care about what I'm saying (ha), but I was compelled to express my positive feedback. :)
This is a BRILLIANT version of one of my favorite Jane's songs. Dave's acoustic guitar playing is beautiful. And Cheney's bass playing is skillful. Not to mention Perkins' amazing percussion. Perry's vocals are beautiful, too. Loving this! Putting this in my "favorites" playlist right now.
2022, just rebounds Jane’s, had the first two albums both lost back in time. Re bought those and the last two and have been blasting them all. Strays is fantastic, I played it to the guy in the car next to me in the traffic jam this morning and he stuck around.
I was watching Late Night with Jules when this came on and I was stunned! Have been searching for it ever since....love to play it on my 12 string ....
This version makes those beautifully unusual chord progressions much more evident. I much prefer this to the album/single version, although I do like that too.
Ever notice that the bands that came out during the '90's are all gone? You don't even hear much about Korn, Limp Bizkit, and people don't even get all excited about SlipKnot anymore. But people hear something about Primus, Tool, RHCP, or this godsend of artists known as Jane's Addiction and it feels like the earth stopped spinning for a moment! Man ... the Addiction are just timeless.
No way! I was so excited to see this on Jools Holland here in Australia. Don't know how many years late getting over here. LOL!! A B S O L U T E L Y awesome!! Look, I like a bit of old Metal...but this is bloody fan-tas-tic. Wish the band was of the genre they portray here. I would be a diehard fan.
He's technically a better bass player than Eric Avery, but Eric's style/songwriting produced more compelling music; he just fits Jane's like a glove while Chaney is more of a reactive player to their style.
I could have imagined acoustic versions for lots of songs but for Just Because?! Well it's still a good version but for me the original is the most hard kicking song ever recorded
dude's (perry) dope on the mic AND lyrics delivery .. but what does he really mean by "you really should have known" ... then navarro be like .. just because ? .. ahhh ... help me out here wouldja ..
this song was realy good. this version is much better than the album version which was boringly produced. I think they have gone on too long now. like REM they will never be great again. I think this may be their last fine moment. i still love them though
VOTE Jane's Addiction for RnR Hall of Fame 2024 ! Pass it on !

Sublime performance by one of the most under appreciated and most talented bands ever....well done boys....cheers!!
I’m literally obsessed with with this version, I wish I had it on my Apple Music and trust me I’ve looked. They all killed it!
Don Martin I love it !!!!! ❤️😜
Same. It's incredible. I'm not even a big JA fan, but this version of this song is on full rotation. Back 1/year!
I love this version and I rarely listen to it just because it is like a rare gem that only can be appreciated on certain occasions.

Love this version, especially the base.

Yeah, it totally rocks, so amazing! 🖤
I could listen to this version of Just Because and feel better after a crumby day and feel alive again just because it is so genuine and beautiful.
Dave s playing is so amazing here
this bass line is amazing

Always love this BAND,,, BRILLIANT
I was watching Late Night with Jules when this came on and I was stunned! Have been searching for it ever since....love to play it on my 12 string ....
They should re release this as a single again this way
This is what real musicians do.
Later with Jools Holland..........allowing musicians to be their creative best
The ability as musicians to take the original and create a totally different piece is pure genius.
Obsessed with the bass guitar in this.
The bass is amazing just because
I love this..I wish someone would download it on limewire
Love the guitar for this version
amazing performance. It brings back so much...
I really like this version, it s kind of dreamlike , the voice of perry is fantastic here he seems like a shaman
A fantastic version, really demonstrates their quality.
Thanks Mike. Very kind of you to let me know.
Wow! This has always been one of my favorite songs by J's A, yet somehow I feel as though I've just heard it for the very first time...
First time I hear this version of song, it is really good.
This version makes those beautifully unusual chord progressions much more evident. I much prefer this to the album/single version, although I do like that too.
First time I’ve heard this version amazing ✌️
This is the best version of Just because
Fantastic fine-THANKS! :) I like their freaky shows (LOL) but so nice to see Perry looking so adorable.
0:23 When that bass line kicks in... fuck sounds awesome.
After a couple of listens/looks it becomes beautiful.
Cheers for uploading. I've been looking for this for ages and remember seeing it when it was on. Nov 2003 right?

This is even better than the original.
This bass line is so much better than the one on the original version.
Love this version
Ok! Must get on my iPod!
excellent find, are there more songs from this gig live acoustic?
i love this version i personally prefer this to the original, i think the guitar riff seems so uplifting when it's acoustic.
They should have recorded this version either
Que caripela!!!!
Wow! very cool vid
😍
WOW!!!!
What do you think Perry is adjusting there, in ear volume?
huaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuu de lo mejor
i want the tabs too :(, if you find it, plz post the link :D
@senorchar Did you ever find it? I want it too!
Oooo I like this version better
anyone know the bass tab for this song? that would be awesome
This bassist is an awesome musician. They should stick with him since there's no coming back for Avery.
love jane's adiction, anybody knows where we can find this version acoustic to download? i was looking in limewire and emule and nothing :S
chords please
This is actually better than the full blown metal version imho.
He's technically a better bass player than Eric Avery, but Eric's style/songwriting produced more compelling music; he just fits Jane's like a glove while Chaney is more of a reactive player to their style.
Anyone know what chords he's playing on the acoustic?
The shapes would help more than the notes.
Just because
Imagine - Jane’s Addiction ( MTV Unplugged)
Maybe this was the original all along, discarded since Bob Ezrin wanted a commercial record.
this song was realy good. this version is much better than the album version which was boringly produced. I think they have gone on too long now. like REM they will never be great again. I think this may be their last fine moment. i still love them though
drummer looks like kevin spacey in this quality LUL
There something about perry which is so relatable.
His awkwardness I guess.
Why does Perry always have a mixer in front of him?
whoohaaXL It's an effects machine. He controls the delay and pitch of his voice while he sings. Like having some pedals. No other singer does that
you mean "DAT BASS"
