It's interesting...the majority of the music I listen to is dance oriented, but Jane's Addiction is brilliant. Navarro and Farrell are pure magic as previous poster stated. Love Jane's!
Such an important band, possibly coolest band in their prime, before grunge and during the 80’s big hair band days, this was the band that changed rock music.....please come back .....and entertain us some more....
@@aldozilli1293it’s live, the studio version is heavily produced. And he played the main solo practically note for note which is unusual for Dave live. First little solo was a whammy bar thing which is a bit risky live as the guitar can go out of tune doing it that much, unless using a Floyd rose
I felt the same way when I saw them do it at Lolapalooza that year. Thankfully, they totally redeemed themselves on the NIN/JA-tour recently, even if they didn't play any of the "Strays"-material.
The problem is the bass. .......Chaney is no a bad bassist, but Avery and the absolutely AWEOSME Stephen Perkins (one of my favorite drummers ever) were the necessary link between Farrell's particular vocals and Navarro's guitar wizardry. Gone are the dark, sinuous basslines and so, the drums cannot support the vocals so well. Anyway, the studio version is great. The best song on Strays for sure, alongside Suffer Some and To Match the Sun.
@UltraDaveDude because when Eric Avery came back to the fold he refused to play anything from Strays cos he wasn't involved in it. But I agree with you. The Strays songs are a natural progression from Ritual. But you can't blame Avery. You only have to watch some of the Deconstruction songs on here to realise what a creative powerhouse he is and how much influence he had over Jane's
wasn't a big fan of JA's back when Ritual.. was huge and Been Caught Stealing was king (although couldn't help but like the song) but in 2003 Strays was used on some TV show and I loved the song (True Nature, I think it was). Went out and bought the CD and damn the whole album is fantastic !! Can't believe it hasn't gotten more attention throughout the years.
How do you not get a copyright strike for posting this?! BTW I stole a rose from Perry's hair the night after they did Saturday night live they played at Dallas and after their acoustic set when they were walking back to the stage everyone bumrushed flea and Navarro and the security left him standing alone so I ran up to him gave him a hug and ripped a purple rose out of his cornrows. He bout shit his pants! I still have it!
Bass needs turning up.... Dave with more delay and some keyboards for the chorus to fill space... if would have heard this first... I would have never checked out the bad ass studio version
@truck5050 Yea cuz it was only 2 good tunes from Strays;Just Because and True Nature. Plus the shit Avery did was way more epic than the the guy who played on Strays. I mean think about it, how memorable is the opening riffs to Summertime Rolls and 3 Days?
d00d, you are absolutely right, it's unbelievable how "weak" they perform this song.. since i know this song, it's one of my favourites, but this live version makes me sick.. disapointment at its highest level..
Look Duckegg, the whole point about this version was simply this..... If I am reading into this and the angle from which Perry, Dave & Steve are coming from, the CONVENTIONAL way is to play a track on repeat, wherever they happened to be promoting it. Highly likely they got piss-bored and decided to play it differently. Crossed your mind that Farrell was resting his voice maybe? He's not a fucking android!
Wow... this live performance really sucks the energy out of the album version. Slow, and in the wrong key... and Perry can't even hit the notes so he sings something different? If you can't sing that high, don't write the song that way...
My dad showed me this when I was a teenager and it showed me everything that a band should do.
Thanks dad. 🤘
I've watched this 20 times today. The rest of the day was just wasted!
So time well spent watching Jane's, I get you totally.
I'm wasted!

Dave Navarro excellent guitar work.
Sounds nothing like the recorded version. Ruined that amazing guitar solo
@@aldozilli1293 well..it's live. There's that. And any album will double track a lead which gives it more muscle.
@@kenshofalco8326 it's Christmas what are you doing

I bought the album Strays the day after I saw this performance on Later. I had never seen or heard Janes Addiction before that evening!
I did exactly the same under the same circumstances
One of the best performances on Jools Holland ever!
Dave's guitar tone is really good in this.
10 years later...AGREED.
HOLY SHIT! That was epic

Epic Guitar Riffs.. all throughout the song..
Saw them on this tour in Wolverhampton fucking awesome
I quite like the raw sound live

Great band. New favorite song.
pure soul and inspiration...
sound fuckin massive for a 3-piece instrumental setup! love this!

Because it is nowhere near as good as everything with Eric Avery.
Wonderfull! Bom demais!
Isn't this song supposed to be in drop D? And slightly faster?

Yeah he's a really cool guitarist, pity he doesn't really put his talent to good use anymore though
It was good to hear Dave Still ripping out these guitar solos in 2003 unlike Metallica who decided to ditch them to sound more like a nu metal band.
odd
your right the guys voice is boring rather listen to album version better
Well what the fuck has he actually been doing in this past decade? Besides making shitty MTV shows with carmen electra. Thats what i'm talking about
