    Super funny interactions between everyone! Let's try not to tease Sophia and Riley too much. At the end of the day everyone on OKOP are friends but also work partners. Let's not let some fun teasing make it awkward for them to exist together. I'd feel a bit awkward seeing people ship me with someone just saying. Totally get that it is all in good faith but something to think about. 😊

    I'm a vegetarian and my ex was cooking. He said try this broccoli I asked did you cook it with the shrimp. He said no. I tasted. It was good until I got a itch in my throat and started coughing grabbing my throat. He screamed I did cook it with the shrimp. I'm allergic to shrimp. Never ate it before since I'm a vegetarian but found out that day. He never did no shit like that again.

      Holy shit. Had a friend who's allergic to walnuts and some B at his work made a cake with walnuts in it to test him. It's a mild allergy so he had discomfort in his throat for two days but since he didn't know about the cake, he'd assumed he was getting sick or something. Since he didn't complain or drop dead the co worker gloated the next day about what she did and accused him about lying about his allergy!! Some people need to just be sent to gaol...

    I am not a vegan or vegetarian but its pisses me off how people are so rude to someone who is to the point that people like OP think basic human decency is special.
    I invited a friend over for dinner once and apologized for only having tofu in my curry... turns out this was perfect since she's vegetarian. She didn't want to be a bother, but I was cooking for US.

      It's so unfortunately common. I'm vegetarian and have been for 13 years. I am only vegetarian because of a medical issue, and do not care if anyone else has meat. I just can't have it. Yet plenty of people take what I don't eat personally -- I've had people try to sneak things into my food or had people sigh in annoyance over having to cook something vegetarianl.

      I have been a vegetarian for 25 and make meat for my partner and sons. One of the things that made me fall for my partner was on our first date he knew I was vegetarian and liked tacos so he planned the date around going to a taco place that was known for its great vegetarian food. Living in PDX I usually make vegan and gluten free things for work potlucks so everyone can enjoy it.

    There's a boy I my sons class who is vegan so when my sons birthday came round and the boy came to the party I made sure his party bag to take home was completely vegan friendly I even found some little vegan cakes at the supermarket to put in for him. The place where his party was did pizza and chips for the food I asked his mum if there's any accommodations I could make and she said he loves chips (or fries for those in the US) so I asked the place to do a double portion of the chips instead of pizza and chips which they did and his parents were so grateful but were prepared to bring food just in case

When I was in school I was always excluded from things no one ever treated me with respect, except for a few kids I met in high school that became my friends I don't hear from them now so maybe they weren't real friends I've always had problems hanging onto friends maybe it's more being nice to my face but never actually thinking of me as a friend (I'm a super loyal friend so they're the ones missing out) I think that's why I want to make sure the little boy felt included and welcome

    I agree with Sofia, I have friends that are not big on physical touch. My sister is like that too. I however, am a HUGE hugger! Kiss on the cheek, all that. BUT I always ask first or say something to the effect of “can I hug you”. I’m sure it’s hard for people now, especially after the pandemic. I still have people that elbow bump me instead of fist bump or anything else. It is ABSOLUTELY NOT a rejection at all. Also, if I mess up and get huggy, I immediately apologize and take more notice to be careful. I want my friends to enjoy being with me, as much as I enjoy being with them.
    Some of my best days are when my boyfriend and I are in the same space but don’t need to talk or fill the air. Doing our own thing. I am happy with people’s presence in the same space.

It was an adjustment for me and my husband since my diet was mostly beef before, but he’s the cook so he’s been amazing in being careful not to put any in my food. Days I’m not home for dinner it’s beef night for him and our son. It’s hard if it’s a sudden change and it’s understandable but a good man puts effort and this man in the story knew for YEARS. He cooked for himself as his diet is super complex (he is okay with cheese and eggs, but no fish, also on keto), and while I did a mistake once of using fish oil on deviled eggs (I was following a recipe to a tee) when I realized I made sure to keep that as a no. We respected each other lifestyles, and I tried to learn some recipes so I can make him food, but he was stubborn into making it himself in which I can’t blame him as this situation could have happened to him before we met.

    :0 Yo that whole thing with boundaries is still a little lacking. boundaries don't define a "personality" .. it "shows" personality as u are aware of what you want and do not want in your life. Not wanting something ain't always a "boundary" ... it can be a personal choice of going to therapy, growing up, leaving therapy, choosing a job or not, getting deep or not with yourself.
    Many people sing about discipline.. and in a working world thats amazing. But not wanting something can be just a lack of joy, depression or anxiety.
    Its however a beautiful statement none the less. And i really perked up as you said it. You seem to be on your own journey and i highly respect that. Bless you! Wish you the best.

    The tick meat allergy is Alpha-gal syndrome! I've known a couple people who had it, with varying degrees of symptoms. One guy could eat venison, poultry and fish, but beef and pork would give him terrible cramps and indigestion. The sensitivity seems to go away after a couple years though. I work in an outdoor career field, so getting that or lyme is always a source of paranoia

    I was vegan for 13 years when I met my now ex-husband. He comes from a culture where it is really important to eat all categories of food in every meal in order to maintain balance, so vegetarianism and veganism was very much not a thing in his country. However, I stopped eating meat when I was 19 because my body couldn't break it down and digest it very easily and I would end up incredibly unwell. It wasn't because I didn't think it tasted good (I actually liked a lot of meat dishes) or because of animal rights (although, I did like the fact that not eating meat meant that animals were not being killed for my benefit, particularly because human being don't require meat to survive, so it wasn't worth taking a life just for my own pleasure). In addition, I'd never enjoyed dairy as the smell and taste of milk was repulsive to me, so when I stopped eating meat I became vegan by default, really,
    My then-boyfriend really struggled with my not eating me because it was how he and his family bonded when he was growing up. They'd often go out to eat and would have share dishes and it was a really important part of connecting to his loved ones, and I could appreciate the significance for him. I had no problem buying meat and cooking it. It was a non-issue for me. I just had no desire to consume it myself. However, when we'd only been together a few months, I unexpectedly fell pregnant and on my own, without him hinting at or asking me at all, I decided to start eating eggs, chicken, and salmon. I really loved my partner and my being the one carrying the baby, I didn't want to disregard the things that were important to him or his own values. I saw the baby as being equally his to have a say in and although he didn't require it of me, I decided to eat meat. At the time I saw it as a gesture of love and respect, but now I know I wanted him to accept me and not put a black strike against my name.
    Once the baby was born, I continued to eat chicken and salmon because I was worried the impact not eating meat would have on our relationship. But I could tell he hated that I didn't eat all sorts of meat and make dishes we could share while dining out. He became more and more vocal about it over the next few years and it developed into a real point of contention. So, I adjusted yet again, and stated I would be happy to try foods together while out but would not make it a part of my daily diet and reserve it for those special occasions we dined out. The more I ate, the more I got migraines, stomach cramps, feeling muddy and unhealthy internally. But, it was never enough. He never ever tried to trick me into eating meat, but the silent threat of his love being conditional always hanging over my head was horrible. We eventually broke up (for that and a number of other reasons) and I still feel like the guilty party even though I'm not.

    I've never been someone that liked meat. I don't HATE it, generally, but it's not something I crave outside of a specific time of the month when my anemia comes into play, and frankly outside of pork specifically I basically never 'crave' meat. I was, as a teenager, vegetarian. I didn't even care if I was a "well fed" vegetarian, either, so if you bought me a McDonald's meal I'd be totally content to eat the fries and give you the burger. I just didn't care, I prefer snacking all day to eating meals anyway.
    When I was 16, my aunt cooked ribs for dinner. This was after my grandparents were murdered, so my mom and my sisters and I moved up to my aunt's house to "be with family". It felt more important than ever, considering the circumstances, and that we WERE living 3k miles away. While under her roof tho, she made it clear she was hella abusive, and so was her son. (Won't get into details with him but let's just sya he talked me into letting him SA me implying it would be 'just me' if I agreed, meanwhile he was also SA'ing my 7yo sister. He was 15.) His mother gave herself, her kids, and her husband the first batch of ribs. Well cooked, seasoned well, SLATHERED in sauce, fall off the bone perfection. What my family and I got were raw. I'm not even joking, fully red meat, glued to the bone, lukewarm RAW with no sauce. It was clear she like "swiped" the sauce from elsewhere onto it to make it LOOK like it had some, but her family was running through rolls of paper towels to wipe sauce off, and my family didn't even have enough to run down the meat.
    When I tried to decline the food, I was told if I was going to be ungrateful and not eat the food SHE made me, then I was not going to be allowed to eat ANY of her food. As in, anything in the house. at all. So, as a vegetarian, which she knew, I had to choke down several raw ribs with no sauce, no drink, nothing, while she and her family watched, just so I could be privvy to eating in the future.
    To this day, ribs are banned in my house. I will make my meat-loving husband steaks, porkchops, roasts, whole chickens, you name it, but I will NOT allow ribs to even ENTER my house. I don't care if he's the one that wants to cook them, they're not allowed. He can sit outside on the ground for all I care, they're not coming in.

    Some suppliers like to advertise *no hormones given*, and that tends to perpetuate the myth.

    • @southernladyish
      @southernladyish 7 месяцев назад +1

      Not sure if this is true.. my mom ran chicken houses for about 15 years and I would always have to help. She stopped about 4 or 5 years ago. But these chickens would go from babies to fat 6-8 lb birds in a 9 week period. She always had to put additives into their water source. Something that was required by the company. Considering how big these birds got and how fast they grew to the sizes they were.. nahh. There were hormones added. My mom even confirmed it. She grew for Pilgrims. Maybe some company’s don’t add hormones but some still absolutely do. Not sure about it being “illegal” either. I could be wrong but from first hand experience, those birds were definitely hormone filled. My mom stopped running chicken houses about 5 years ago. So it’s possible that it’s illegal now.. but it surely hasn’t been decades. My issue was them getting rid of antibiotics. Chickens get all kinds of diseases.. antibiotics get rid of those diseases. Without the antibiotics, chicken still carry these diseases and were just out here eating them like it’s no big deal 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @ByronBTB
      @ByronBTB 7 месяцев назад +2

      @southernladyish you're not wrong... I bought Cornish broilers (by far the most popular meat chicken) last year along with a handful of other varieties. The chicks were all raised together, but the Cornish ones far outpased the growth of all the others. You don't need any hormones to make them grow that fast.
      You can google hormones/steroids in chickens. It's been illegal for about 70 years... I'm sure some people may break the law, but why would you risk your business when you can already buy a chicken that grows exceptionally fast? I doubt hormones could make it grow any faster, anyway.

    I’m vegetarian and my mother was really unhappy with me when I first transitioned. She used to do the whole offer to make me a serving for a while. One time she made chicken stir fry, swore she cooked the chicken separately. I found little bits of chicken in the stirfry in my bowl (I hadn’t asked to have a serving. She offered.) . It wasn’t the first time she’d done something like that but it was the most egregious. While looking in her eyes I opened my mouth and spit out the stir fry into my bowl and went and took the bowl to the garbage as she yelled at me for wasting food. I normally wouldn’t have done this if it was like something ordered in a restaurant and I could pick everything out as best as possible (and a mistake was made, but this wasn’t a mistake) because it is a waste, but she’d specifically done things to break me and was just unhappy with me because she didn’t like just cooking for herself and my brother so at that point I just felt I needed to do something to break her. It worked. The only things I’ll agree to eat that she makes is spaghetti if she separates the sauce before putting in any meat, or vegetable sides and she doesn’t argue with me about my making my own food aside from being annoyed if I’m in the kitchen when she wants it or giving me shit for meal prepping (or as she calls it making way too many servings).
