- NEW Bafang BBSHD and BBSO2 design revision to Bafang M625 and M325 lets what has changed!!!
This is a quick look at what has changed with the BBSHD and BBS02 with their new designations. Is it just superficial or have their been more extensive changes underneath.
The motor has a UL rating and information on that is here

I've barely broken in my old models but learning about what's to come is always interesting. Thanks.
Heck yeah! Looking forward to getting her built with you!
Should be fun mate.
Very interesting and nice you take your time to discuss the BBSHD drives. 👍
I wish the video's audio level was at least doubled, because it's very difficult to hear.
Thanks for the feedback on the audio..I always worry I will make it too loud for people. Glad you like the video. Cheers.
@@HighVoltageKits Lowering the audio on videos tends to make it difficult for those of us who are partially deaf to hear. I also found that it was somewhat challenging to lip read on this video. 😉
Thanks for the video 👍
Thanks Robert!
Excellent video!
Thanks 😊
Interesting thanks
You are welcome 😊
Great Review!
Thank you! Cheers
Looking forward to install!! Dream of a day when I can order the new HD at a sub $500 price!
You me too brother!
This is the price in China :)
ive had mine over a year at first i used the hose clamp thing but if you shim it right it feels super solid just with the two allen bolts tightened
100% In most cases when it comes loose its incorrect torque OR a poorly aligned plate. Cheers
The key difference is that for 2021, Bafang has entirely dropped the UART communication protocol for the Can-Bus system. The impact is that we won't be able to program/adjust anything on the new motors. The only way to play with some parameters is to buy the BESST device from Bafang (c. USD 200) which is used by cycling shops, and open an account with Bafang.
Hopefully someone will manage to develop the same software and connection cable for this new communication protocol as for the old UART system.
I don't think it will be long before it's wide open. If the higo connection is still the same the eggrider people will likely have a work around.
@@HighVoltageKits unfortunately different connector, UART was circular, the new one is like a small house (like a square shape with triangle on top)
Heah it was higo. I am sure it will be not long before its hacked either way.
And that's my KO reason, for NOT buying the new M625,
but the old BBSHD instead.
You would be dependent on third parties allowing you to change settings of your device you PAYED for.
@@HighVoltageKits totally agree, when i hear CANBUS my brain automagically translates it to oshit we're in the endgame of ebike mobility now so if anything this will actually enable more capabilities instead of less
Nice of u to create a Vid regarding to BBSHD, this info is not possible to find anywhere else in YTube.
This a chronological list of all of the videos I made on the BBSHD captaincodswallop.net/bbshd This one here is just ride videos. captaincodswallop.net/ride-videos Glad you like the video! Cheers
Nice vid
Thanks Andrew
Man I just got mine a week ago, didn't know a new version was coming out. Either way I love my bbshd.
Took me by surprise as well. I really don't think much has changed. If we are unlucky they will have tried to deter modifications with this revision. So you may well come out best here
Totally agree! You may find yourself in a fortunate position as I’ll be surprised if they’ve made any significant changes to the controller. Therefore the current model we know has a known route to upgrade to the excellent BAC 855 should you choose.
The protocol has changed so at present the existing method of using a program cable may well not work. Same for the eggrider.
Wouldn't you agree the nylon gears work as a type of mechanical fuse. I mean it's better for something that's easy to replace to break then something that's hard to replace right?
Yes. 100% Have seen some burned up stators that would also agree 😆. Thanks for mentioning it. Cheers
Let's hope for a torque sensor in this similar to g510, would make it my dream for the entire fleet of bikes!
I don't think so sadly. You are not the only one thinking this!
@@HighVoltageKits i have a custom built bbshd bike, and a winora radius with a torque sensing yamaha pw motor, i do like the torque sensor feel as it makes it behave more like a bike, but the cadence sensor of the bbshd is a blessing for a easy fast commuter, and i see myself often riding the bbshd shitbox and leaving the refined and expensive winora in the garage, i think torque sensing makes sense for trail mtb bikes, for commuter and cargo bikes give me a powerful cadence sensing bike and its done.
@@ricardorodrigues3508 i have had no issues with the cadence sensor around town either.
Hoping for a 4000 watt standard model bafang.
Me too mate!
Just got my kit. Should have waited haha! It did come with a narrow wide chain ring in the box tho
Nah, if you got a BBSHD, you’ve got a great kit and a known. Is great even as stock but you also have the option of a well trodden path to upgrade via BAC 855 to take to to a completely new level.
Loving my 855 upgrade kit I sourced via Mr Hv and the Capt via his discord channel.
Thats cool! Who did you get it from?
From a company called Bluenergia on AliExpress. They have a UK warehouse so only took a few days. Unfortunately my chain line is still way out so might have to look at other options.
Your welcome on my discord chat / help server. Post some photos. Maybe we can help with the chainline. There are lots of tricks. I am 3d printing spacers. discord.gg/YAAjfgc
Thanks! Just sent a picture On discord 👍
I call it unorow...
Ive got the fat HD model from 2020 bbshd
Ive got my eggrider on and working with Karls sauce. Thanks to you and your channel and comments on it...
Someone said they were going to make it harder to hack???
Interesting. It will be good fun to get one to play with thats for sure.
Increased hacking gives rise to increased legislation gives rise to manufacturers increased measures to stop hacking. Your greed for speed is ruining the ability of everyone to ride on bike paths. Please consider a change in your mindset before we can no longer ride anywhere. Consider not that you CAN hack...rather if you SHOULD hack.
Hi! You think old bafang versions prices will go down?
I would think so... unless they have locked out external controllers somehow and they become collectors items. I doubt that tho!
Will the throttle override the PAS like the first generation HD and BBS02?
I'd hope so. Right now tho I have no idea. Information on how it actually rides is thin on the ground.
Problem on new model !!!
If you try to program or modify via cable and laptop in any way, controler might lock you out! And display when turned on says error 30. Now im unable to revert changes and stuck with a brand new BBSHD that i cant use
Hi, you are welcome to join the discord server. Which programming cable and which motor. Is this the new M625 version? Or a newer version of the BBSHD? It gets confusing. You can post pictures on discord and we can have a look discord.gg/C8tsq9vH
Any modification to the throttle so that it's not so touchy?
You can try using Karl's special sauce with the stock. Ultimately tho the only way is with an alternative controller.
If it would have torque sensor, that would be a game changer.
I agree but don’t see enough change in the design to accommodate that. Changes look merely cosmetic and incremental at best. I don’t see them doing anything to make hot rodding it any easier nor Will it have the capability an external controller like the BAC or phase rubber, but we may all be surprised.
Exited to find out but really don’t think they’ll be much to feel jealous about over the current one at all
More recently they changed their firmware limited stock controllers to 28A vs the 30A they’d had for years.
I
I think you are bang on the money there.
I suspect that Bosch has the torque patent and is only allowed to perform it
have you heard of controller failures on the 02s?
It happens yes... and on BBSHD. Stock right?
@@HighVoltageKits just debating which motor to buy..........
the volume level is TOO low
interesting information tnx 4 the news
Thanks for the feedback. I will have to check my software.. It plays back ok on my speakers but you are not the first to mention this. Bloody computers! Cheers
The M625 Bafang video says battery clearance specs are (390mm by 170mm) this seems too large a battery footprint to fit but only the largest of bike frame triangles. Did anyone else consider this issue?
I have only just become aware of the battery requirement. It seems like it makes a handshake with the controller. IE you have to buy their battery... I like it less by the day. I will do an update on it when I get a spare evening! Cheers
That battery looks huge and won’t fit on the frame of any of my mountain bikes.
The dock is a big chunk of it. But yeah it's huge!
They suggest the large battery only suitable for a 27.5 and larger wheel-sized bike in the info I have seen.
Damn I've just ordered a BBSHD today, should I return it and go for the M625 instead?
No. I will be taking one apart this week so you will see why then.
I want to upgrade my lekker bike Amsterdam model to the bbshd they sell a model with the 350w version dont know if it is becouse the bike frame can only handle max 80nm torque on it since its a gates cdx belt drive
Stock it might be ok. You are welcome to join the channel discord and post pictures etc. Perhaps we can figure out a solution. discord.gg/YAAjfgc
@@HighVoltageKits thanks i joined in which channel can i ask for help?
I have a question about my electric how do you know how it is full on the computer with the number
Hey Andy, not sure what you mean mate..Are you talking about a battery?
Hi there. I was wondering if you build bikes to sell?
No. I am more about providing information to help people. I 3D print stuff for controllers etc. Whole bikes tho are not an area I am equiped for. Maybe one day. You are welcome to join the discord server though and that is where you will get really good advice if it is something you are considering. discord.gg/GQBDpC7G Let me know if you have any problems. Cheers
I don't know if you will see this, but I was looking to build an ebike. I was just wondering about duty fees. Where do you reccomenned getting a bafang bbshd from? Are duty fees unavoidable?
I don't think I paid much duty where I got mine from which was em3ev.com If you are in the USA you can get them direct from Luna. No duty there. Hope this helps.
@@HighVoltageKits Also in BC. Just don't want to now what to expect in terms of duty fees. Im just wondering if I need to budget in an extra 12% or expect a much larger fee.
12% is probably wise. Its a bonus if not I guess. How is the Smoke with you? I think we might lose hundred mile
@@HighVoltageKits The island is chilling. Other than the heat wave back in late june, we've been all good. No smoke so far
Can you use your own battery with it?
If you replace the controller yes. Otherwise currently no. We are seeing if this can be bypassed.
Will it have torque sensing?
I does not look likely right now sadly. It seems to be more of an update than full redesign. I will keep digging but I would not hold my breath. Cheers
@@HighVoltageKits Cheers! I really learn a lot from your videos. Thank you
You are welcome. Thats awesome 👌
So long we can programmed our self all is fine !
Its not looking great but I have send a controller off to get examined!
@@HighVoltageKits OK, keep us posted 👍
Will do!
Where did you find that magnesium is better for heat dissipation than aluminium? This is just weight benefit, no more.
I am going on what I read from the online sources so I have not seen testing results or heat shedding data. I will do some more reading though. Will be interesting to see a weight comparison to see what the difference is. Thanks for letting me know. Cheers
It sure sounds good huh?
That attachment method to the down tube looks...cheap. Surely there is a better method.
Its not how I would design it that is for sure. I keep walking past frames and thinking how much more difficult they have made it outside of a standard hardtail.
Do u know the price of the motor?
Not yet. I saw it on Ali but no price
Eu and Norway and australia
It has the m625 designation in these regions and countries also?
I bought m625 from Ali E. and estimated delivery is September 3. Greetings from Norway
Sounds good. Let us know how you get on! Cheers
I just bought a bbso2, fuck.
Its not so bad. It's still a decent motor. Lots of people do well with it. There are quite a few unknowns on the new one.
A hose clamp??! Doesn't that start cutting into the paint job or grind away some frame material? There's got to be a more elegant solution than a butt-ugly hose clamp!
100%. I will be looking to make something. But yeah even if it's just rubber
Thick cable tie works I agree big ugly clip is not cool.
I suppose you could fabricate a mount. It can't be any *less* janky than what I did to bolt my TSDZ2 to the frame. Cyclones do the hose clamp thing too, so it doesn't suprise me too much.
can bus? not thank you, i rather stick with bbshd for my home made batteries
Me too. Although the external controller options release the m625 from its cage
I mean, the communication method isn't bad, it's the fact that it's locked down. OBD2 is pretty open, and that also uses CANBUS. Paired batteries are definately a jerk move. I spend like $180 for a 10AH 48V battery and I wager Befang would charge me 5x that for the same blue brick effectively.
@@HighVoltageKits oh so they *do* have external/3rd party controllers for these now?
Speak up :)
I think I figured the settings now. Sorry about that! Cheers
Sorry man. Your voice is WAY too bassy. I can't make out what you are saying, even after turning the volume up. Perhaps you need to tweek your audio settings a bit, or maybe you just have a bad cold. Either way, it makes this very difficult to hear.
Thanks Joe been trying a new mic. It sounded clear on all my speakers etc. I will see what other feedback is like. Thanks for taking the time! Cheers
HAHAHAAHAH !!!! Bfang. don't give a crap how you treat your motor !! People like you ??? Someone who doesn't change gear correctly ?? What do you mean !?
I have fixed gear these days. Not sure I follow. Cheers for the comment tho. 👍
