    Another job well done.

    See you next week!

    The lower performance of the rifled version, might have something to do with the fact the inner rifled barrel is less than 3" long.

    Well, just put 50 pellets through my rifled barrel version. It feels good in the hand, very good grip to get a very good hold of. Out of the box it shot a fair bit low and left, although this was only from 6 yards. The front sight with orange blade does not show up well against the silver of my knockdown targets, but a bit of black paint can sort that. The rear sight will need a tweak. Power wise, my chrono' is duff, so, just by "ear", mine seems to have a little more poke than the one reviewed by Andy. I used Air Arms Field 4.52's (8.44 grain). After shooting I compared the trigger and action with my Umarex 586 Smith & Wesson. I have to say that the trigger of the 586, and the action as a hole, is far smoother and has a far better quality feel. The only downside against the 586 is the fact that it doesn't have an authentic chamber. Hope to compare both against each other once I get a new chronograph. At this moment in time though, if I had to buy just one it would be the 586. My trial of the Model 29 took place inside at an average room temperature.

    I owned the long barrelled version of this formidable handgun when I was a member of my police shooting
    club here in London UK some decades ago. Even my Colt 12" barrelled "Buntline" pistol was a runner-up
    in the effect from the act of firing. The cost of the ammunition was one factor that saw use restricted
    of the S&W weapon. My lingering memory is how strongly built it was and how that was a very visual
    indication that it was not to be handlled with less than due diligence and respect.

      The received wisdom is the BB version is superior if you use pellets. The 'rifled' version only has a 70mm rifled section, then it's smoothbore. Pellet version is less accurate, and lower power, so you can feel happy you have the better gun.

    I swore I wouldn't buy another CO2 pistol. But being a life long "Dirty Harry" fan (of the original. The second two were okay but the last two sucked!) and living in the UK means this is the closest I'll ever get to owning the real thing, and I always so wanted one.
    The closest I have got so far is firing a .44 Magnum Ruger Super Redhawk in the USA about ten years ago.
    So its best begging eyes on to the Mrs.
    It's just a shame it wasn't modelled on Harry's Model 29-2 "pinned and recessed" example, rather than the latest version with the terrible grip shape rather than the classic Goncalo Alves grips and other less aesthetically pleasing features such as the ejector rod shroud shape, the top rib shape and the rear foresight mount.
    Like I said, I always wanted a Model 29.
    I don't understand why they haven't offered the classic 4 inch version (which also looks cool. Watch Mel Gibson in "Payback" or Lee Marvin in "Point Blank") rather than the ugly 3 inch?
    Interesting side note: Harry was supposed to have had a nickel plated 4 inch version in the original "Dirty Harry" script, but when they found it impossible to source any they went with the 6.5 inch with 2 being built for them by S&W. Personally I think it was the right choice as nickel plated is too "bling" for Harry.
    Like I said "....a life long Dirty Harry fan".

      @BertieW0oster 2 года назад

      Spot on regarding the grips... whoever designed those new grips for the real steel probably never fired a 44 Mag in their life, they are way too thin and the taper ergonomics are awful for handling magnum recoil!

  • @sitcorocket

    Superb revolver and I am very tempted. The only thing for me is that I am sure that the left side of the pistol grip should have a thumb rest cut into it.... I may be wrong but recall shooting one years ago with the thumb rest.

    • @James-0075
      @James-0075 2 года назад +6

      You are correct. The .44 Magnum used by Dirty Harry did have a carved out section for the thumb. As Andy said, the Smith and Wesson m29 went through 10 alterations. The airgun replica must be of a late version. Though it would have been nice if it had the exact style of grip as the movie version

    This M29 looks so damn good that oughta get one. But I think I still leave it. Not a big revolver fan myself - and I already own a cartridge loading revolver - which I love to shoot, but hate to throw away time on reloading cartridges..
    6.5 or 8". Does not matter that much really. Oughta tighten up the tolerances of the spring loaded inner barrel (and possibly cylinder) first. My Remington 1875 was not that accurate either as new outta the box - but shoots great now. Pellets in a smooth bore works just great for short pistol ranges. I mostly shoot pellets with my Remington's both 6pc cartridge sets even though loading BBs could be faster to do.

    I bought the 6.5 inch pellet version and was very disappointed with the silly little rifled 3 inch barrel and alloy spacer.
    Took a 7 inch barrel out of an old Stoeger pneumatic and had it machined to match the original barrel and spacer. 2.5ft/lbs muzzle energy with H&N Excite Econs and much improved accuracy. Also got a set of the 629 rubber grips which are a better match to the dull chrome finish than the faux wood grips.

    I bought a rifled one a few weeks ago. Yet to try it. Does feel good, but the power and fps figures for the pellet version seem on the low side, being around 1ftlb lower than their 586 Smith and Wesson. Maybe the "realistic" chamber of the 29 is the difference. I'll see how I get on with it, but if I'd have realised the low power I probably wouldn't have bought it. I also think the barrel may not be 6". Yet to get the tape measure out, but there's a faIr bit of a recess in the shroud of the barrel, which, of course, gives it a great look, but may mean that it's the shroud that's 6", not the barrel. Lastly, it's a shame the finish isn't properly blued. The finish is more of a dark chrome brown. It's a quality finish and feels that it's made well, but going on your testing the low power is a concern. Lovely it is, but looks are nothing if the end result is left a little to be desired. Time to put mine though it's paces. Cheers for the review.

      I’ve had the pellet 6.5” version for a couple of weeks unfortunately it’s in the process of being returned as it’s got a problem with the trigger not returning fully resulting in the chamber not rotating for the next shot ….I’ll put that down to bad luck …replacement due in a couple of days.I’m surprised at the negative comments about accuracy as I found mine to be brilliant!
      The plastic faux wood grips initially make a plastically “creaking noise”don’t be alarmed treat the mating faces with a drop of silicon oil/spray and after use the noise disappears.

    Not sure whether you are aware Andy but the pellet version is only rifled for the first 2.5 inches and rest is smooth bore ,this is the same on the 8 inch version as well .Which put me off buying it .

    In the excitement you really weren’t sure if you’d fired 5 or six 😜
    Nice guns, I have a few revolvers, a Dan Wesson 4” in 6mm which I’ve had for about 12 years. A Crosman Sheridan Cowboy and the best one a Umarex Smith and Wesson 586 6” which has a small cylinder that holds 10 pellets rather than a full revolver with shells but is a different
    league in build quality with interchangeable barrels of 4”, 6” or 8” lengths. Like you though these days I struggle with open sights due to wearing varifocal glasses.

    really wanted one of those, shame about the rifled version barrel mostly being an aluminium spacer, never thought Umerex would follow down that path after producing such co2 classics like the Walter CP88 and Berretta 92FS. Had an ask but can not source a full length barrel for them.

    Great watching yet one more of your thorough reviews with your usual wit and pertinence which I most enjoy. Being from the 'other side of the Pond' and a member of the Commonwealth :-) this new Umarex revolver is only available in the 8 inch barrel version. Sadly not the 'Inspector Calhoun's' 6 inch version you are displaying. Will have to wait for sometime in the future in the hopes that it will become available in my country because with an 8 inch barrel (a beast) it is totally over-kill (pun intended) as a movie replica revolver in my book and my collection. By the way very nice pine board wall planking in your backdrop decor. Cheers!

      @@sustorres765 No probs, I measured them and they are a tiny bit bigger on the exit hole of the shell, Probably for the skirt of the pellet, You can fire pellets through the BB shells a bit slower but I didn't bother incase it ruined them for bb's 👍🏻

    Hi Andy, addicted to AAR on line, it's my Friday morning go-to. Bought the Glock 17 paintball on your recommendation after inspecting it in my local gun shop last Saturday and you're correct in your evaluation, very well put together and great fun to shoot. However I am having some difficulty finding 0.43 ammunition, the gun shop only had one tub of rubber balls and i want to try the chalk. Can you help, do you know where I can get the chalk ammo for this gun in this country? I have found a supplier on e-bay in Germany but the delivery charges are very high. Also bought the S&W M29 with the six inch barrel and rifled, that's great too and quite accurate for a CO2 gun. Great vids, keep 'em coming please though you're costing me a fortune!! (joke!).
