  • NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (CBS 202086-b) The Little Anthony & The Imperials hit from 1959 got a dusting off seven years later with a Girl Group slant. In early 1966, 19 year old Carol Whitfield worked her way backstage where the Walker Brothers were performing and slipped group member, Gary Leeds, a copy of a demo disc on which she belted out 'These Boots Are Made For Walkin'.
The disc founds it's way to the desk of Walker Brothers producer, John Stewart, who decided to record Carol and her band mates. Changing their name from the Five Aces to Carol & The Memories, their one and only single was issued on the CBS label. Recorded at Philips Recording Studios in the Spring of 1966 and issued in the United Kingdom on June 6th of that year, the arrangements on the A-side, 'Tears On My Pillow', as well as the flip, 'Crying My Eyes Out', display some delicious Spectorian elements. Both sides were decent productions that unfortunately wouldn't bring the group fame and fortune. The group eventually went their separate ways and Carol continued to perform with several other bands afterward. In 2006, Carol and her husband Geoff Loftus, revived 'Carol & The Memories' with three new members.

Sweet composition. Like the chord progression. Though the backing band is a little out of time and tempo variance is an issue, its a lovely work.
