- NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Imperial 66109) Out of Los Angeles, this release from May 1965, is the first of three magnificent, Spectorian singles issued by Miss King on the Imperial label. The session was held at Hollywood's legendary Gold Star Studio with it's iconic echo chamber out front and center. Jerry Riopelle's gargantuan production was so impressive to Gold Star engineer, Larry Levine, that he played the tape of the tune for Phil Spector himself. Spector wasted no time in bringing Riopelle on board at Philles Records from from the summer of 1965 throughout 1966.
From June of 1965, watch Clydie King and The Blosoms perform 'The Thrill Is Gone' on T.V.'s 'Shindig!':

Ms. King has led a long and colorful career within the music business leaving a wealth of recorded work as a soloist, group member and background vocalist.
never heard anything about her death in the news (east coast)...sad
Such a nice touch to remember Clydie the way you have. A truly wonderful artist and warm hearted woman much missed by us all.
If I'm not mistaken, she also did some session work - I'm particularly remembering she was a background vocalist on River Deep, Mountain High (on a side note; as I'm sure Anthony knows, as well as many other afficionados of Mr Spdctor, the recording tapes released - not by Mr Spector - of a bunch of his best-known tracks from this period are out there - on YouTune. Though imdomt condomemthis, they DO afford anyone who's a true fan of hismwork an amazing insight into how he 'built' the Wall of Sound.
As i'm sure Anthony knows, the recording methods were - considered to what's now possible - very...'primitive', and Mr Spector always mixed the second channel into the first, leaving (ONLY) a mono release (there IS no 'stero' recordings of these tracks).
I always had a feeling I could hear the background on River Deep doing multi--part multi-octave harmony, and it was because of (in particular, what's refer Fred to as 'take 18'), I can hear it, and I was right.
As for Ms Kijg, as Anthony said, she had a career which spans genres and decades. She's missed. RiP💐
I'm so glad I found this channel. My late dad, Jerry, wrote and produced this gem.
My all time favourite back up singers. I love her solo work so much. She should have been much bigger in popularity.
I LOVE this song to bits. When I first I heard it, I thought it was a ballad from the 80s or 90s. My shock when i learned it was from the 60s! An underrated yet timeless song
I'm at a loss for words.but I will say this. Clydie King's Talent speaks for itself. She was a true friend, I am blessed to have known her. One of the most kind-hearted persons I've ever met. God bless you, Clydie.
Nurk Nanker the word 'talent'is not a proper noun. It's NEVER CAPITALISED!!!
@@UNOwen1 dude go police a teacher lounge.....you want some capital letters then here you go....STOP JUDGING AND START LISTENING!!!
Aw man, takes me back to summer nites listening to static-filled CKLW Detroit on my little Lloyds am radio!! Damn good song!
This is a terrific song by the late Ms. King, which was unusual in that era.
Maybe I've lost a few brain cells, but I only recently realised this was the girl group era. Though this song was not specifically in that category, many songs of that or other genres didn't talk about the loss of love.
It's truly powerful-both lyrically and instrumentally-and was produced at the recording 'Temple'-Gold Star.
It's a track I listen to on my earbuds, and, in fact, I only just heard it a few minutes ago.
Sigh, I know we can all commiserate with these plaintive words, but, I hope I don't get to the point that I don't stop looking.
The other side is excellent too and her other record “Only the guilty cry” is beyond brilliance 👍
Heard this yesterday on KCJV 97.9 FM in San Antonio!
Great song. Share it took me 55 years to hear it.
Gorgeous. So sad to hear that she has passed. This is one of the best non-Spector Spector productions ever - and her voice is so gorgeously understated, yet stands strongly against and is well supported by The Wall of Sound. (It isn't a voice vs. band matchup but rather a unified charge.) Superior work from a superior voice. RIP, Ms. King, 1/7/19.
Id never heard this before, until the other night on the radio. What a great pop/soul record. Spectorish type production. Fab !
Another Wall of Sound masterpiece......RIP Clydie
I'm without speech..........this record is so GREAT........and I thought "Missing You Baby" was terrific............Who the heck is this woman???? DAMN!! She is FINE!!!!!
OH,BUT THE 'THRILL' OF THIS SONG WILL NEVER BE 'GONE' !!!!!!
There are songs, but this is a song !!!!!
It seems I am always hearing new old singers on RUclips I never knew of, and I am astonished to now hear Clydie and especially this example! Not well-versed, I still will dare to say it shares a sound somewhat with "Too Hurt To Cry, Too Much In Love To Say Goodbye" by the Darnells (Gladys Horton), perhaps even more with "Love Me Like You're Gonna Lose Me" by the Chiffons, and of course Mr. Spector's productions of the Righteous Brothers and others. Thank you profoundly!
Stunning slice of soul from Clydie King made even more timeless by the GoldStar wrecking crew!!!
Nick DeCaro (1937-1992) Prominent LA producer, String & vocal Arranger performed as arranger on this Clydie King single. Nick DeCaro will be honored and celebrated at The Rockn' Roll Hall Of Fame Museum Library & Archives Sept 20, 2018.
RIP Clydie she's now up there with the producer J.Riopelle
She will have the biggest audience in heaven ever rip
Just wonderful
I've loved this song for years but I've never found the 45. So.. I just learned the songwriter was Jerry Riopelle. A big surprise.
great track from clydie, again!
KILLER BALLAD FROM 65
It's no less that saddening that I can't get the Imperial and Minit Years CD on Amazon right now and that the few copies on eBay are priced way too high.
what a great voice
She sang background for so many artists she was better than like Dylan, Ronstadt and Streisand !
lost for words
very nice Anthony
If The Large Hadron Collider was a recording studio, this is what the result might sound like
Magnificent!
;)))))
I believe the gold star studios were actually knocked down in favour of a store some years ago....a biit like demolishing the Pyramids. shameful.
;)))
