Imagine going through things and finding a record of your mom singing. That must have been a serious goosebump moment.

Wow. That is a voice with a great backing track. Thank you to Jana for providing the material and to Anthony for sharing. I also run a fan page of Charlotte of FaceBook. Her voice in Bonnie & the Treasures started a long term obsession with "that voice" and finding out as much as I could about her.

Antony, you have opened a time capsule. A peek into the past. I consider it a privilege to hear these nostalgic records. This music is near and dear to my heart. Thanks. I've discovered a five star channel.

I think the photo of Charlotte O'Hara is priceless. It's as if her producer or manager said, "dress up in your night club outfit, step up to mic and show them what you can do". And she did! Thank her daughter for sharing this find. Great!

@@SkyVettel Me too, Patrice Holloway's version is the best version to me followed very closely by Sandy Wynns' version.

im sure this was the 1st recording before Jobete picked up the rights and tried it out with Patrice Holloway and shelved it, they also tried a rearrangement with Marvin Gaye in 1964 before Sandy sang it and released the track

Great find Anthony you are truly Mr. Gold Star! Marvin Gaye also recorded a version in 1964 produced by Marc Gordon
& Hal Davis. His version did not surface till 2014 as a download on 'Unreleased Motown 1964.' Gloria Jones also did a cover on her 1984 album 'Reunited' which was produced by Ray Harris & Ed Cobb. I personally believe that Charlotte's demo was recorded first.

    Amazing find!!!
There is a description about this song in the liner notes of the CD "THE PATRICE HOLLOWAY ANTHOLOGY" released by KENT in 2011.
“Ed Cobb believed in the song so deeply that, after Patrice’s recording was shelved, he smuggled the track out of the studio and recorded the semi-hit version by Sandy Wynn, released on Doc and subsequently Champion in 1965.”
    There is also this description.
“Wright had no idea how she came to record the track and wasn’t even aware that Patrice had done it first.”
If this is true, it would be Charlotte → PATRICE → Sandy (Edna).
Edna didn't listen to the PATRICE version and seems to have sung with reference to Charlotte's demo.

SANDY'S VERSION IS A NORTHER SOUL BIGGIE , I THINK THIS IS A CREDIBLE VERSION , THE HARMONIES ARE THE SAME RIGHT DOWN
TO THE BACKING VOCALS AT THE END , AS WYNNS VERSION
ITS A GREAT PIECE OF HISTORY ,
AS EVER , ANTHONY'S DEDICATION KNOWS NO BOUNDS TO THE
      MUSIC HE LOVES,
      200 KID

You're right. It does seem to use the same backing track as those other 2 versions. Shame about the crackle. Maybe that demo disc that her daughter found is all that exists of her version of this great song. Marvin Gaye did a different version, now on Motown Unreleased 1964, playable on RUclips.

Interesting that Charlotte is spot on, especially with a couple of nice trills. But when the backing singers come in towards the end they are a bit off. Can't imagine that was intentional.

I have now noticed you put above Wfich Version Was Recorded First. I doubt it was Charlotte's version as it was written by Edd Cobb who I think was previously in The Four Preps, but who wrote other songs for Sandy Wynn and Patrice's sister Brenda Hollway with Hal and Marc producing. But they had no further connections with Charlotte who otherwise worked with producer Phil Spector, and at the Gold Star studios. She must have been very young then, judging by her voice. I have now discovered other tracks she left from Gold Star studios on RUclips, found in her attic by her daughter. As these tracks were never released, those crackly acetates may be all that exists of those tracks. All that hard work, and they were unreleased and survive in poor condition. Her version of this song has a drier sound, as it lacks the echo of the other 2 versions. The most available versions are the Patrice Holloway and the (different) Marvin Gaye versions.
