    I feel short games definitely have there place, although if a game is short then I expect quality or full immersion.

      That's a very good point. If a Game is short and not highly polished, that just feels wrong.

    It depends on how much you value your money.
    When I was a kid I disliked a game that I could beat the day I got it if it wasn't super fun to replay right away. Because it would be a whole week before I could rent a new one. As an adult I appreciated short games a lot more. Like I didn't see what the fuss over 40 bucks for Ground Zeroes was all about. It was fun, so it was good. Now the economy is the worst it's ever been in my lifetime, and everybody needs to mortgage their house every time they go grocery shopping. And I hate short games with the burning passion of ten-thousand fiery suns!
    It appears as if game length vs price isn't a one size fits all problem even for a single person.

      I think that's a good way to put it. We all value money and time differently, so that of course would impact how we feel about short Games.
      Another reason I am personally very careful about choosing which Games to support, is knowing certain Publishers are beyond Greedy and too much acceptance can back fire.
      For example, OBLIVION was for most the first main stream Game to have a micro transaction and we all know how normalised that practice has become and much further. Publishers smelt the money and now entire Games are designed around that concept.
      With short Games, I believe the moment it ever becomes acceptable to have an ultra short experience but charge the maximum amount would be devastating to the Gaming Industry as a whole. As Publishers would all jump on board and trick the younger generation that it's normal to have a 4 hour Game and pay a certain amount. I guess Normalising aggressive abusive tactics designed to Milk Gamers as much as possible is the biggest fear.
      Short Games themselves as far as fun goes? Yep, no problem! Lots of good ones and they keep coming : )

      Short Games I have enjoyed I wish they were longer because of the fact I was enjoying them 🙂
      I do not regret my time with them however

    Honestly, a lot of my fond gaming memories came from games with a short length.
    Klonoa, Max Payne 2 and Tenchu Stealth Assassins are really short games, yet they're my favorite games of all time because they either contained a beautiful story to tell or had incredibly fun gameplay mechanics with a lot of replayability.
    Tenchu being a game I spent countless hours on because the game was just so fun to play despite being short enough to beat in an afternoon.
    In my opinion: Short but amazing games that give you a memorable experience > Overly long games with a lot of bloat

    • @GamingMyWholeLife
      @GamingMyWholeLife  4 месяца назад

      I think long Games can be just as fun as short but we all agree that short Games disguised as long need to go 🙂
      Also I'm happy to see Tenchu mentioned 🥳 I never felt it was a short Game but if you know what your doing, it def can be 😲
      I remember the first time I played it, took me a week of playing each day (prob after school)
      Max Payne was really an experience back in the day. I remember watching my Mate play the first on his XBOX and blown away by the visuals and slo mo 😎

    When I get burned out from a long drawn out game, those short games are so nice and refreshing. They make me feel accomplished cuz I can beat them in a week. Usually those short games are indie, cheaper, and even go on sale often. So it's totes worth every penny. I'm a huge fan of many indie games. Sometimes they surprise you and end up being longer than expected.

    Hello my friend,
    I agree with you. I think short games need to exist because we don't always have the time to play very long games, but the price should follow the length of the game.
    I hope the industry will understand that better and better.

    • @GamingMyWholeLife

      Hey Mate!
      Glad we are on the same page and it's the industry we need to keep our eyes on, lol.
      Short Games can be awesome!
      From a more strategic side, I think it's important to manage expectations and how it's sold.
      Hellblade 2 being so short and ending up on Gamepass? Means a week later most of everyone has already completed it and moved on. Which is sad for any Game. Normally Games are contentiously discovered by new people through the years and re-talked about.
      I know you have a Series S but I can not remember if you have Gamepass? If so, have you enjoyed your time with Hellblade 2?

    • @ThePatchUniverse

      @@GamingMyWholeLife Oh yes, we are, they can be.
      I agree with that too, marketing is very important. I understand your point about Gamepass actually, I understand it more and more. I think in the future if I really want a game on the Xbox, I might just buy it. That's true.
      I do have Gamepass. I actually haven't played the game yet, maybe I should, but the first one didn't do it for me and the second one doesn't appeal much to me either. Did you play it?

      I never got round to playing the first Game either, lol. I know all about it and watched many videos but never bought it. Have too many other Games I would rather use my time on to be honest. @GamingMyWholeLife Yes, I understand that. The game setting just doesn't do it for me. Oh so, I was wondering, I your video you mentioned Dragon Quest 6, but you showed footage of Dragon Quest 11, right? Dragon Quest 6 is a pretty old game? On which console was it released first?

    A 100 dollars in AUS for a game, holy smoley. Buy Steam keys instead mate, much cheaper, or wait for Steam sales. I can't remember ever paying that much for a game here in the UK. That's hellish.

    • @GamingMyWholeLife
      @GamingMyWholeLife  4 месяца назад +1

      Steam sales have treated me well over the years 😎
      Not really an option for first party console Games though and Sony brought the price of that up to $110-$120 this Generation. Mainly since they tricked people into believing we should be paying even more for Games (obviously a lie, good games are crazy profitable).

    You will spend more of your life looking back on your experience with a game than playing it, even for those games we sink 1,000’s of hours into.
    If it ended with a sharp decline in quality, or a slog of time waste slop, that’s likely to become our presiding memory of the experience. Excepting truly extreme examples of hyper short games for more than $60 USD, I will almost always look back on games that delivered consistent, quality experiences more fondly than those that may have been longer, but didn’t deliver consistent quality.
    I don’t recall what I paid for the first Hellblade, but I know I loved the game’s experience. I also don’t recall what I paid for AC Blackflag, but I never finished it because as great as the ship was, the Ubisoft slop sapped away my will to play. So AC was way over priced, and Hellblade’s price was fine.

      Its true we spend a lot of time thinking about our Gaming adventures and also a reason I'm a big fan of hyping upcoming Games as well. Its fun to look forward to them and let the imagination run wild. Sure, sometimes we are disappointed but that should not remove the joy of anticipation 😃

    I love shorter games. Makes it much better to get through more games. I like 3 hours-30 hours, those are my favorite. I chose to play well over 100 hours in Hogwart’s Legacy, but the game itself wasn’t terribly long. It’s just fun to put more time in to get more stuff sometimes, but it’s not like I have to.

    • @GamingMyWholeLife
      @GamingMyWholeLife  4 месяца назад +1

      The flexibility of option seems to go a long way with Games. When the experience is not too long if you go straight to where you need but doubled or even tripped if you want to do all the side stuff 😃
      30 hours is very satisfying to me but sometimes I love the Game and need more like 80.
      Love the atmosphere of the limo games, little nightmares etc

      @@GamingMyWholeLife totally agree! Sometimes I just want to start and finish in the same day, just like “Still Wakes the Deep”. Super short game, but I enjoyed it and have played through it three times since its release on Game Pass. There’s nothing extra, no secrets, no collectibles, just fun to me and super short haha. Limbo and Little Nightmares…exactly, awesome atmospheres, satisfying, but not too long.
      Thanks for the response, have a great weekend!

    I’m up for any length game as long as the story is gripping and as long as it’s priced correctly. One of my favourite games is Gone Home. I think that is only about 2-3 hours but its an awesome little game. Same with What remains of Edith Finch. I’ve recently just finished Still wakes the deep. Had loads of enjoyment from this and it’s reasonably priced 👌

  • @Denji23
    @Denji23 4 месяца назад

    The game length has nothing to do with the Price, some people buy figures for the shelv for more Money.
    People pay for quality not quantity, i would say. I got to say i also prefer a good replay of a game rather than a drawn out first finish.

    • @GamingMyWholeLife
      @GamingMyWholeLife  4 месяца назад +1

      Many people would strongly disagree. What if a Game is 2 hours? Doubt you would feel okay paying $100 or even more
      Length by itself does not matter of the Game is terrible

      @@GamingMyWholeLife well ok but i personally enjoy it much more to play a good game like deadspace remake multiple times, instead of playing a shallow game once, but i have to drag me through a lot of fetch quests. Id even go so far to say a good story game should have 8-10 hours not more, except its an rpg or jrpg they should be longer. Good example would be Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater. One of the best Games EVER. i finished it on the first day i got it. It was so awesome. I replayed it multiple times over the years. No hard feelings about finishing it the first day.
      I like it when i am done after 8 hours and can go to a different but equally good game. I hate those dragged out games that you stop playing midway because they are too long and it starts feeling like a chore, but you feel bad to not finishing it and then they add to your pile of shame. But you keep it in the back of your head... i have to finish x y z and this and this ....
      I find my self replaying older games with higher quality than continue a new game i bought that is just too long. RE3 Remake was fine length wise imho.

      See we are talking about different things here.
      My focus is around how much is expected to pay for Short Games.
      Clearly, I like both long and short types.
      Loove reply value in games. My Theory is we enjoy Games more the first run through if we know we will be able to immediately play it over again when we finish.
      I've done some Retro Reviews on Buldurs Gate Dark Alliance 1 & 2 and the replay aspect is a strong selling point. it's not a super short game or anything but the reply is off the charts and can easily see that working for actual short games

      Value for money is so important and frankly speaking as well,
      we can not be too lenient because Publishers will smell the money and
      normalise short games with a big price tag.
      Just like they did with microtransactions.
