Everything you say about the 1 and 5 minute wicks is why I am searching for resources on learning to start trading tick charts. Just from my initial back testing of my trades from earlier today, I would’ve had such better entries and exits using a tick chart. I’m excited to use ticks now thank you for the info!!
They are great. In the end it is all just different ways to interpret the same data. But tick charts are ideal for helping filter high volume stages of the day. You get much greater detail.

Yeah. Usually on NQ I use 2000 ticks.

I may transact 100 times, but if I don't clear the limit orders then price still doesn't move. So on a 100 tick chart, my 100 transactions would create a candle even if price didn't move? I'm betting ticks are the number of price moves, not the number of transactions. Please confirm.
What a great video , I miss my entries using time based charts but now during equity open I can just switch to tick chart & execute better .
Yes, tick charts lets you see the chart much more granular and detailed when volumes are high.
Great video, sir! What do you thinks about Range Bar Chart that draws a candle every 10 or more ticks? I think sometimes it is also useful to understand the exact movement. Have a good day!
I have used a 8 tick range in footprint snd it does help sometime to preempt absorption early. But yeah they are good, all depends how it adapts to your style and strategy.
Side by side comparison with a 1 minute chart would have been more convincing. We all know 5 minute charts are like looking at a low resolution picture. But thanks for the info, I had no idea what a tick chart was and you explained it well.
1 min is similar but tick chart still gives more clarity and better structure for me especially during high volatility/volume periods.
Is there a tick ATR. Seems to me that 3000 T is not equivalent to 5 min, probably closer to 1 min in terms of trades per minute during regular trading hours. So apples to oranges. Does it make sense to use Heiken Ashi candles with tick charts?
Yeah, you should backtest and experiement, see what makes the information clearest for you to execute and analyze.

Do you have any videos showing how to setup the tick chart and footprint chart on ninjatrader?
I don’t. I just use Sierra Chart and TradingView.
You can find all that in the “data series”, on the “data series” tab there is “type” and the “volumetric” is for footprint, there are also ticks, volume and so on.
I was wondering the same thing Arnold. Do you still use ninjatrader? I feel like I'm missing out sometimes by using it.

Yes, I use purple. I don't use any number, I just anchor it to the beginning of each session along with the session Volume Profile. ETH at 6pm EST and RTH at 9:30am EST.
is it possible to get tick charts for forex in Sierra Chart?

I'm sure any good platform like Sierra Chart, Ninja, Jigsaw, MotiveWave, etc will have it.

And wouldn't it be better to work with a chart created directly with volume candles?
They are pretty similar, as I showed in the video. But I feel that Tick Candles are better at catching momentum and volatility cause they measure number of transactions going through. But you know all these are different ways to interpret the same data. So just gotta find what resonates best with eachs strategy.

I said in the video in ES the 1min is similar to 3000t in RTH and zMES about 2000t. You gotta just test them out and compare.
