In this episode of the Desire To Trade Podcast, I interview trader psychologist Rande Howell. The last time I spoke with Rande was in 2015 as I was just launching my trading podcast.
You can find my previous interview with Rande here: • The Amazing Power Of M...
As a trader psychologist and an expert in the field of mindset, Rande has helped many traders train their minds in order to boost their trading results. Some went on to trade for hedge funds and make big money. He is a real trading psychology expert.
According to Rande Howell, the mind's default survival state isn't made for trading. If you want to see a significant difference in your results, you've got to train your mind to do so. In other words, if you don't have the results you want today, you can train your mind to make more money.
And we cover all about it in this interview! You can find Rande Howell at www.mytradersstateofmind.com/

Very valuable interview... A MUST WATCH!
I'm happy to hear that!
Totally agree! Great channel. Hoping for a meetup one day

Rande Howell turned everything around for me. Went from reckless "gotta win" guy to a patient consistent profit guy thanks to him. I was able to quit my job and have been doing this for 3 years now, account has steadily grown every year on top of paying all my bills. I take losses all the time, no big deal now because they are small, not giant blowups. I still watch his vids all the time to stay in the correct mindset. Highly recommended. Thanks Rande!
Also try crypto if you want to diversify but now is not a good time to go in since we are nearing the peak of the regression band in terms of price.
@@amateruss Crypto being the most volatile and the most unpredictable assets, it seems just a perfect scam for new traders. It's unpredictable because it's useless, it's almost illegal and is not forbidden only to keep the jock going.
Wow!! My goal as well...I want leave the job...the market scares me after the losses I've had..however he's right..in retrospect..if I had simply been patient..I would have done better..
@@laurenth7187 LMAO "useless" you don't know what you are talking about, oldy.
Rande Howell is teaching so many even he don’t know, people like me sitting thousands of miles away learning so much, it is just unbelievable.
"I wasn't bored anymore. It was just patience." So powerful.
There's good wins and bad wins - all contribute to SUCCESS.
1. Good win - hitting profit targets.
2. Bad win - taking profit too early.
3. Good loss - hitting stop loss.
4. Bad loss - not placing a stop loss.
This might be one of my favorite interviews!
Key takeaway: The holy grail in trading is not the strategy but on how we manage our emotions when trading.
Oh yes that’s the ticket ❤
"I never met a really good trader who was not a damn good loser".
So glad I found him. Today I overtraded but I was able to calm myself down and stop. Walked away with profit also.
Well done! I love hearing that!
This is exactly what I have been working on, and yet so few people have talked about it correctly. Psychology and trading coaches talk about it a bit, but successful traders don't really dive into it. They talk about setups. No setup matters if you can't trade it because your mind is not right. Thank you very much for this content. In the thousands of videos that I have watched about trading, this is one of my favorites of all time

"I've never met a good trader that wasn't a damn good loser!" -Rande Howell . You have to be unafraid to lose, realizing that losses are part of the process.
No, but you have to be unafraid of not taking every possible trade, ie of FOMO.
he make me want to become a trader
Losing isn’t part of the process it’s part of the game it’s inevitable theirs to much variations in the market for u to b right all the time that’s why u just have a edge which just gives u a higher probability of one thing happening over the other learn to love losses it’s the cost of doing buisness
In my trading process, it's expected that I will not win every time. That's what I meant.
The Best Loser wins
Very similar thinking to Mark Douglas. RIP Mark, your wisdom is missed.
Thank you to both you and your guest for that highly valuable discussion. Much about my psychology was exposed; especially when he spoke on how 'your trading account reflects mindset'.
Wow, a complete gold mine. So grateful for content like this, thank you and GL with those gentlemen at Duke
Such a great interview partner. Thanks a lot for making this video.
As soon as I seen Rande’s face in the thumbnail I clicked immediately! I’ve been watching all his 200+ videos since November last year thank you Etienne
Excellent! I'm happy to hear 💯
Wow I never knew he had all these videos!! Thanks for pointing that out
He's a legend, His work is life changing for a struggling trader like myself.
@@dja1000s Awesome man, so you noticed a turn around in your trading after Rande's teachings? Did you just watch his youtube or take his course?
Etienne.. Infinite Thank you for introducing Rande Howell. The work Mr. Howell shares will change the Biggest Game of All .. The Big Game of Life.
Lots of golden nuggets in this interview. In order to be consistent in this game you have to fall in live with the physiology part of trading which is 98% of the task.
Glad you liked the interview!
I love this dude. I found his videos yesterday and have been hooked. I wiped away 2 weeks' worth of profit because of euphoria and it scared the hell out of me. I'm finally winning trades and now i have to worry about thinking too positive? This dude helped so much. binge-watched his youtube.
What an amazing interview. Thanks Etienne and Rande.
This is exactly what i've been looking for a Trading Psychology coach who has studied the traders mindset and knows the struggle traders face everyday. thank you for this very helpful content this will deffo help my with my trading psychology and self improvement journey.
13:20 to 13:45. In this tiny segment, he says EVERYTHING that a trader need to know. Amazing Interview!!!!!
Thank you so much for this!
Highly valuable 🌟
Great quality content and interview. Thank you
This is amazing. Thank you
Best video ever! This deserves 1 million views plus!
Amazing interview. I will checkout his website.
As a boy who gre up right outside of Charlotte and moved away, it was cool to see how NC has influenced his beliefs. I wouldn't have ever thought of a spiritual mind in terms of the market and trading, but having sent the last six years from the age of 18-20 being spent on shadow work and spiritual exploration. Hopefully I have some type of idea about my psychological make-up and how i can improve it to fit making money in the market!
Thank you so much for having this channel and thanks to Rande for his willingness to explore and insight into the mind!
Great staff Etienne....good job!!!!
Thank you for all these interviews you do!
It's always my pleasure!
Excellent interview. Mr. Howell is a knowledgeable person. This is a really interesting conversation. His short story about the UCLA Undergrads working at the prison is quiet interesting.. Good take away for me is you don't control the trade outcome.. You control when, where and for what reasons you become involved in and end participation in each trade.
Thanks so much Rande..im going to work on changing my emotional thinking in trading
This is the most valuable and interesting lessons! I will apply it to my training. Thanks!
Really great , it's so true, change is good, control the mind for the biggest change for a great life even if your not in the market, this is so true, we all struggle with thinking we are great, the reality is greatness comes from wisdom, wisdom comes from experience, humble ourselves and know that randomness is life. we are no better than anyone else. awesome video. Good video on the sociology of trading. Which all traders must have. It's the other side of trading
Fantastic Information from this guy! I can really se myself in most of the bad things he is talking about! Thanks for this interveuv Etienne :) "When u leave your rules u are gambling"
Incredible work
That was awesome! To me, the biggest value one can get from trading is learning how your emotional brain works, and applying the lessons learned and to other aspects of life - personal, professional etc., while pursuing your life's purpose. Great stuff!
That's very true!

It is really valuable what Rande says here. It touches deep what a Trader goes through very often. Really. I think in particular for newcomers are these information very useful and absolutely supportive to become a risk-aware and suddenly a profitable trader. Thanks for that! Lutz (in Afrika)
Well said! Glad you liked that interview!
Wow what a great video with so many good points about the limbic system and trading psychology. Good point made that learning such strategies without actually being in the actual environment.

Best interview !!! So much knoy❤
Euphoria. Yes, success can be as dangerous as failure. Rational and objective thinking is necessary at all times.
That's true 💪📈
So true. Sometimes the inner demons want to sabotage your success. That's how millionaire lottery winners & former NBA players lose it all & end up working @ Trader Joe's. It's difficult to believe as an outsider but if you understand the MIND you get it.
@@pearlperlitavenegas2023 Thanks for the reply. There is a Rush song called Losing It. It sums up the human condition:
The dancer slows her frantic pace
In pain and desperation
Her aching limbs and downcast face
Aglow with perspiration
Stiff as wire, her lungs on fire
With just the briefest pause
The flooding through her memory
The echoes of old applause.
She limps across the floor
And closes her bedroom door...
The writer stare with glassy eyes
Defies the empty page
His beard is white, his face is lined
And streaked with tears of rage
Thirty years ago, how the words would flow
With passion and precision
But now his mind is dark and dulled
By sickness and indecision
And he stares out the kitchen door
Where the sun will rise no more
Some are born to move the world
To live their fantasies
But most of us just dream about
The things we'd like to be
Sadder still to watch it die
Than never to have known it
For you, the blind who once could see
The bell tolls for thee
The bell tolls for
For you the blind who once could see
The bell tolls for thee...
The bell tolls for thee...
Thank u brody
We make things so complicated. You don’t have to learn to be patient just simply Be patient. No need to learn to be smart just be smart.
Insightful interview. Rande Howell does a brilliant job of meticulously explaining the psychology of the two brains working together. The anecdotes shared made the learning enjoyable to watch. If you are new to trading **A MUST WATCH FOR NEW TRADERS AND THOSE WHO NEED A MENTAL REFRESHER.!!**

Its the same as the spiritual process balancing the mental body and the emotional body etc. Being the observer is key, and using breathe to come back into centre and being present. Thanks bro
Absolutely wrong. Mental is 10%. If you think trading is about spirituality then prepare to lose.
@@laurenth7187 unfortunately you are completely incorrect. It's 95% mindset and 5% skillset. If you teach a skillset into a robot, he would do best coz he doesn't have feelings/emotions/anything that subjectifies money as money..
@@SahilPargunde That's may occur when you reach the level of an artist, who is confusing technic and emotion...

You're welcome!
Excellent interview. Pure gold. Question, how many years of profitability that the trader atleast pat themselves on back that they are consistently profitable and not just lucky.
I'd say 2-3 years but ideally you want to do well in multiple market scenarios.
I’ve just started making my own Forex trades today after six months of gambling with paid signals...... this is a gold bar video , & yes I LOVE Trading)
My biggest challenge is sitting on the sidelines and getting into trades, why? because of irrational fear. My account is prove to that. Fear of losing, Rande's work has helped alot to get out of this behavior. I have realised am my worst enemy and the best victory i can ever get is victory against my own self. My emotions.
Valuable
First few seconds of the video.......keys right there.
