YESSSSSSSSS!!!! I have been waiting for this since him helping Zombie Cleo with that bit!
same :P
It's never too late to experience this god damn Classic.
at the end is was more 1/3 nostaligia, 1/3 derping about, and 1/3 bitching about the imperfections in guns and military stuff.
This was one of the best games that I played at the time, that and Freespace. Now I'm going to have to break this game back out of the storage closet. Thank you Vechs for bringing back the memories.
I hope to hear a lot of Freeman's Mind references.
I have waited so long to see an LP of this game in my subbox. thank you so much for making this happen vechs!
Seeing this in my sub box, you've made me very happy, Vetches.
This game looks amazing, and I love the way you're doing the LP. I have a feeling this is going to be another great series that I can't stop watching.
I'm so glad Vechs is doing this series! So much I've heard of the half life series but I've never seen or played it. I can't wait for more!
I adore the Half Life series, and I have a feeling this will definitely be a great Let's Play. Good luck Vetches!
'Vechs plays the Half Life SERIES' Yes so excited
I knew this would be good from the point of which he boobed the button under the desk. :D
Heh, you said boob :3
Sparx632 Woops, meant 'boop' :D Its all that porn Im watching ;)
TheTonie4 At least you're honest
Half-Life 3 Confirmed.
with 3 likes? YEAH IT'S CONFIRMED!
RafinhaLmm No, now it has 17 likes... but, if you add a zero at the end of Half Life 2 you get Half Life 20 and 20 - 3 = 17... HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED!
Jmack16 ~James Mack~ It has 18 now. Half life 2 Times three equals six, and six times three is Eighteen. HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED!
It has 23 now
23-20=3
HALFLIFE 3CONFIRMED
As an older gamer, I can remember haring about Half Life when it came out, but I wasn't able to afford any type of PC capable of playing it at the time. Thus, I started with HL2 later on -so it's good to see this LP!
You will not be disappointed, Vechs. I look forward to seeing more of this.
Oh HELL yes! I love this series! Can't wait to see Vechs take it on until the end! Hell, might have to play it again along with him!
This is very cool to me. This game is older than I am, and I actually have never seen any of the gameplay before. I just thought it to be very cool that I can experience some of the games that really innovated and experimented with the elements we see in games today, which is something I won't really get to experience fully. Thanks for lp-ing half life, Vechs!
To quote a Valve game in the same universe as Half Life, "This was a triumph."
First time I ever played this game was 13 years ago, when I was 5..was one of the main games to introduce me to true PC gaming. Which led into my interest in having and eventually build my own PC 13 years on. :D
Wasn't expecting this. Nice.
Ahh how this brings me back to when i was 13 as well. Safe to say, between this and Zelda OoT is what started my passion for gaming. Good choice on an LP man. Keep it up!
"So being a game from 1998, I figured a lot of my subscribers, it's entirely possible might not have played Half-Life." 7:20
I suddently feel so old, and I'm only 21 >< Those were killer graphics back then and it feels like it was barely a few years ago... Thanks for the memories man, definitely waiting for the next episodes (and commentary over it!)
EDIT: Also, to those asking for the new remake of it... A great part of retro gaming is to experience the games in their original condition, how you played them _back then_. There are memories attached to such games (well, for the older audience at least) which won't really be reproduced by playing the same story in a completely different environment (modern graphics, controls and stuff). Part of it is to revive some lost memories attached to that game, some sort of time travel in your own mind. Unfortunately, younger people won't be able to get that feeling, but trust me you'll understand some day...
People are willing to go very far to preserve that feeling too. Emulators of very old platforms such as the NES and SNES started including CRT and NTSC video emulators in the graphics pipeline to simulate playing the game on a big old fat round TV that doesn't catch half the signal, and it's amazing. You could play them the modern way with accurate pixels and everything, but actually reviving the original experience goes right in the childhood!
unexpected turn with this series vetchus, didnt know you like these sort of games.
i will be looking forward to seeing more of this
I look forward to this series. I've always been curious about halflife. :D Thanks for playing it. :)
Wow, I was not expecting this from you Vechs! I am so excited to see this!
I must commend you sir,for doing the whole "This game is M-Rated,viewer discretion is advised" thing.
Thank you.
the intro is so nostalgic haha , keep with the good work vechs greetings from Brasil! (;
Oh yeah evil master mind in a government facility everything will be fine. Cant wait for next episode
All the memories are coming back to me.
Ah the memories! This was the first FPS game I've ever played and it has a special place in my heart
So much about this game was cutting edge when it came out. Character animations were bone-based (the first ever), full colored lighting (the first ever), procedurally generated verbal interaction between NPCs (the first ever-- this is where one NPC says something, and another NPC if they're nearby will attempt to respond in an approximately appropriate way). This game broke SO much new ground! And to think, it was built on the original Quake engine (and parts of the Quake 2 engine as that was also in development at the time). In the end, they changed so much of the engine (and improved it over what the Quake 2 engine would become by the time it came out) that I think this is what drove them to just develop the Source engine for HL2 and all the rest of their games since then.
Also, Half-Life was the FIRST of these FPS games that was released ON TIME, right to the exact date that they originally promised it would be, and it didn't need a single patch to be playable. It was incredible! This game came out at about the same time as Sin, which was another FPS that was based on the Quake engine, but Sin was so broken when it was released (late), that it immediately needed a 500 MB patch to be played through the first or second level-- bearing in mind that at the time, all games would fit on one CD, and Sin itself was about 600-ish MB in total, and people were still on 9600-14.4k baud dialup modems at the time, so downloading a 500 MB patch meant spending MANY MANY HOURS without a phone line available, hoping to God that nobody would pick up an extension and try to call anyone, because there was no such thing as resuming a download at that time for most people, and even for the ones who had it, it was really iffy, and might result in a corrupted download.
You kids today have no idea how good you have it! But on the other hand, it's not very common for a new game today to break nearly as much ground nearly as well as Valve did with Half-Life. This was one of those once or twice in a lifetime games.
Now I remember my play through. Not too long ago, vastly recommended by my parents. And boy, yay! Good memories! And now Vetchus! :D
Yes! I luv u sooo much for playing this!!
YES! So happy about this series.
Seen this entire series before but came back to re-watch it. 😀
Wow, an awesome LPer plays an awesome game! It's awesome!
All the memories for this game series... And all the tears for Half Life 3 ;_;
I think you should do two episodes a day of this series. It's an awesome game. You have nailed the length of the video also.
I was 14 when I played Half-Life. Pretty cool to see the old game again. So much memories and experience I made while playing this and some other games of the late 90's. I have to reinstall Half-Life! Thanks for the series.
Half life 3 confirmed?
if he does half life 2 next then it is half life 3 confirmed because 1+2=3
beasty102938 Also Half life has 8 letters and Vechs has 5 letters so 8 - 5 = 3 Half life 3 confirmed.
Who knows, maybe this November? Or the next one? They gotta have a flagship game for their new engine, after all.
It is now
Oh yeah! Vechs plays Half-Life! I hope this series does well enough that he considers doing Half-Life 2 as well sometime in the future. I don't expect HL2 right after this. Maybe even a Portal playthrough someday if he even likes Portal. I also pictured Vechs playing Mass Effect too...
It does say Vechs Plays the Half Life *Series* in the title so...
"please stand back from automated door" *vechs walks to automated door ROFL
ok nevermind it wasn't the door it was the disabled people spot
Now this is a series I can get behind.
Such cliffhanger to a 16-year-old iconoc game :D
16:34 "OMG half-life ladders"
When watching this I remembered that after many years of playing games from Valve I figured that on ladders you need to look up to go up and look down to go down xD
I fucking love you Vechs.
Honestly Vetches, it's entirely possible your younger viewers weren't even born when this came out. It came out before people 15-16 years old were born.
Hey this series just confirmed my subscription i LOVE this series and im very excited to see how you play and what you like about them as well and im curious as to you playing hl2 ep1 and 2 after finishing this, keep up the good work!
i was born in 98. i have played through the original hl years ago. i really liked it. I love hl 2 and onwards. i have played through hl2 5+ times. havent done episode 1 because heard it was kinda short and no story elements and have played through part 2 3 times.
im a massive fan of hl and looking forward to this pl that you are going to do vechs. It is hard to think how old this looks when i played the original and i thought it looked good not that long ago.
I hope the view counts stay and the likes stay high so you will keep playing this game and the next ones.
You have just become my favorite youtuber
Freeman's Mind is perhaps one of my favorite series of all time.
i love the logo on the suit in the intro
This game is older than me, and despite never playing it before, I'm already feeling nostalgic.
I am looking forward to you talking about all the game-design philosophy involved in this game. I wasn't entirely expecting it to be done, but this is a great learning experience to be had, and I'm often very bad at analyzing game design. xP
-I'll Be Watching.
Ah, I played through this game like 4 times. Before the source version, though I was a wee bit younger than you (and still am, funny how time is.) Looking forward to this series, and blueshift, and opfor.
I'm 16, and have never played any of the half life games, I never heard of them until I got heavily into gaming in the past few years, but now I will do what I can to buy and play them!
Barney is actually the guard you see trying to get into a door on the way to black mesa.
Awh man, something just dawned on me as I watched the opening. I had this game as a child with my dad and loved it, and loved all the Valve games since, like Portal. And in Portal, BlackMesa was the bigger competitor to Aperture who bullied them out of business essentially. And you see the Aperture Science facility in Portals1+2, and it's enormous. So how fucking massive must the Black Mesa compound be when it was the larger business, and this was it's main site D=. That train system which takes ages must be like, a teeniest fraction of the place.
Aperture might actually be larger, as black mesa stole lots of apertures research and equipment (like the gravity gun) which is partly why cave had so much hatred for black mesa.
Thank you this is my first half life experience ever :)
Am I the only one that thinks they were trying to do a reference to Morgan Freeman? Or something like that?
***** I mean with the name
***** The first name just sound similar. And has the last name. Was just thinking that they were trying to do something.
Believe it or not, they've been debating the name for a long time.
The initial idea was Dyson Poincare, in honour of Freeman Dyson and Henri Poincare. You can see where they've got the "Freeman" part. And Gordon a is really nice choice for this second name. It just rolls off your tongue.
^ - someone's got 'Raising the Bar' :P
Jayfive276 Yup. Hardcore fanboy :D
Oooh. I'm really excited about this series. I've played the rest of the Half Life series and I've enjoyed all of them. Like you said, they're unique games and extremely well-designed. But I've only played the very beginning of Half Life 1 so far. Great choice!
OOOOOOOOOOOO this LP is gonna be awesome, cant wait this game is sooooooo good
Played this game with my brother 2/5 years ago.I Cant remember a lot :/.Its nostalgic/fun to see this again!
Deffently going to be a series I'm going to watch :3
I got into Half life a bit later then most people, but still enjoyed all of them ^^
God! This brings back memories! I remember the original graphics. The guys looked like they were typing with thier fists!
They really don't make them like they used to, with all the little extra bits you can play with :)
This is just manfreaking sweet, Vechs.
Those graphics are so beautiful!
I think m gonna njy watching dis legendary series..thank you!!!
This is the point where I say that I still hate this game with the burning passions of hell right? HATE!
Can't wait for more!
When this video appeared, I *SHAT BRIKKZ*. Don't usually watch Vechs' videos, but I still sub to see what might pique my interest.
Glad I still sub, because man, THIS GAME...

What? How? That story was about something totally different happening in an alternative universe, hence the dragon name was changed to Xyranthis. But I guess I'll have to check LoM out, I've been only seeing Pyro's perspective lately. Man, I totally forgot I wrote it as it was just another one of my "wall of text" comments. Quite a while ago I even made a skin for pyro to make him look like he's wearing the dragon's skin instead of his "dinosaur" outfit. Probably too many annoying peasants were sending letters to old man about the whole #freesquiro thing and his fireplace was getting too full of ash, so they're making it a mini "mention in the plot" thing just to silence them (because killing them all, although fun, would have negative outcome for the kingdom) :P The whole "spread the message" thing wasn't meant as a literal thing, but as a joke on many similar stories that could be found back in the day. I guess I should've thought about that and edit it out or change it for something else, but I was too tired and went to sleep. And on the next day it was already too late, people went out with their hashtags and so I left it. But hey, at least I'm happy that Pyro saw it :D I've wrote the story mainly for him, just to boost up his morale a little after so many people were coming from Pause and old man's channels just to dislike his videos because they told them to, either as a joke (in case of old man, where he told people to dislike Pyro's videos and come back day later to change it to like [because technically, they're equal in value], but the problem is, Pyro treats even a single dislike as a sign that he did something wrong and screwed up "again") or just because they got angry (Pause many times, especially when things turned out not to be Pyro's fault a bit later, when it was already too late). It really feels like people are unfair towards him. He revealed once Coe's position after he was dead, people (viewers from other channels) came to dislike all his videos and accuse him of ghosting and being a jerk. But Coe revealed someone's else position after he was dead, and nobody seemed to care, like nothing happened. Man, this whomps...
I'm an older viewer and I think I was still playing Diablo when you played through this in 98.
Haven't watched any of your videos for several months now I don't think :o and as I've been watching through mostly just Minecraft stuff between RUclips and Twitch, I decided that rather than going back to find your last MIndcrack episode, or whatever Minecraft related videos to watch, I thought I would start here from your Half-Life series instead! I can't remember how much of it I played through myself all those years ago, probably not too much I don't think, or enough to really get into the game and appreciate all of the level design, etc that has gone into it, but I have watched videos recently at times of gameplay from the original Half-Life engine/graphics, including a bit of the 'Black Mesa' edition/re-make of recent years, just to see how that compares to the originals too! Can't wait to watch through this series, especially with it being only roughly 20 minute episodes, I'll probably end up watching through a bunch of them at once :P
I'm gonna watch the living hell out of this Series! =D
just subbed to you for minecraft actually but found this gem.
To hours of entertainment! Cheers
Nyoh my God. So excited.
Yes Vechs, because 2014 - 2000= 5 Years. :3
They need a many many hour loop of that music
I want this game now D:. Very cleverly written narrative from what I can see.
1998.... wow. Memories.. I wonder if they are going to port Opposing Force and Blue Shift over so that the pups can play the full Black Mesa story.
Love it! Thanks veches!
As a huge fan of Freeman's Mind, I kept expecting you to make witty one liners.
I was three, maybe four years old when this came out, damn.
I've never actually played any of the Half Life games, myself. With the way everyone is talking about it, this should be a great LP to watch. :)
*breaks out the popcorn*
This is going to be fun. And nostalgic. And fun.
My profile picture is a cheese.
Cool story bro.
My god he's right
we noticed :/
Cheeeeeeese, Grommet! :B
I am a soda :P
You could see mike laidlaws name on one of the lockers at 12:44 he was one of the writers of half life :D
Dis going to be good.
Vechs, playing some classics on his channel... Nice, and it brings me some pseudo-nostaligic feelings.
Ahh, the memories. I still miss Space Engineers series though.
Oh cool, this looks like fun. I've played the original. I'm looking forward to this.
i like how he says he was in the target audience when he was thirteen, AND that it's rated M in the opening.
ooooooh snappers this series gonna be good!
Two words: Hell. Yes.
So, Vechs is 29 years old...
I thought it was 27..... -_- math failures= Funny.
AzzaaceGaming he's said 27 sometimes, 29 others... he's clearly 28.
Mefistofeles1754 65
He is 28 just like Aureylian is
