A number of years ago I was lucky enough to see an art exhibition called "Artistic Luxury" and featuring the works of Tiffany, Lalique, and Faberge. Most works were shown at the Paris Exhibition of 1900 and the focus was on the idea that, to the three firms, the design and artistry were more important than the materials and carat count. While not calling out direct comparison, there were examples of comparable works from other jewelers. For example, there were two examples of cigarette cases in the Louis XVI style. The Cartier version, while probably of higher carat weight, was not even in the same league as the Faberge.
Some of the jewels and clothes were wearing the person, rather than the other way around.

For a restaurateur who is 7MM Euros in debt, the Divellec owner has to get his act together: deciding on table settings the day before opening his new restaurant is laughable. He shows up a day before the opening and behaves like an angry teenager, complaining about things that "should have been done four months ago." So where was he four months ago? Laissez-faire project management landed the restaurant in a real mess. On opening night, we find out that he didn't even have a training & test run with the kitchen staff - which leads some of his guest to say they think the restaurant is "still getting the hang of it." In terms of attitude, this is not Michelin star territory, so he should count himself as fortunate to have gotten the one star which Divellec was awarded.

@@lilylittlemonster5 Let's not be too quick to bash rich people. Although low to middle income class are the biggest consumers, the rich are the biggest producers of goods and jobs, as well as services. Let's take Bernard Arnold as one example. Now the richest man in the world, his contributions to the French economy are very significant. In France, one job created directly by LVMH generates four for the French economy1. This is equivalent to around 160,000 people working indirectly for the Group1. THAT is significant! Infrastructure: LVMH has more than 500 stores and 110 manufacturing facilities and workshops located across France1. The group opens several manufacturing facilities each year in France, notably for Louis Vuitton. Arnold, along with Bettencourt (richest woman in the world) promote France around the world as being leaders of fashion and luxury goods that one cannot put a price on, as it brings back tens of billions or euros back into the economy. Just imagine this.... what if all the billionaires of France moved out of the country and relocated their headquarters outside of France. How would that make your standard of living better? It would be a disaster for the country with higher unemployment, loss of CAC40 value, higher inflation, and a dramatic increase in poverty. Start looking at things positively -- it's what Americans do and they're very successful. Look at the glass half full and be thankful the French economy produces some of the richest people in the world... because THEY create jobs.

To put a live animal into a pot of boiling water, without humanely killing it prior (if there's such a thing) can be no more than inconsiderate self righteous and cruel (has this chef is seen here doing here). And before all those likewise beings as the chef get on a defensive 'rant'. Ask yourself - if you would be prepared to be dropped into a boiling vessel of water still alive. No I thought not.
Has for telling the world what jewellery you own and where you are going to be and at what time etc, is that 'stupidity'...or just shear vulgarity in flaunting your richness....probably the both!
There is a wide divide between 'Rich' and 'The Wealthy'. And those 'wealthy and clever' enough unlike most, chose to keep a very low profile. An example of this would be someone like Amancio Ortega, net worth - 99.5 'Billion', and in his 87 years very rarely photographed and never does interviews or talks to the media. Now that is humble, intelligence...and 'real wealth'. Unlike many, he knows when someone is blowing Hot Air up his Arse!

The rich Russians have appeared to nowhere, they are now still everywhere, in spite of war, sanctions etc. In Paris, Caribian, Asia, Dubai. They have bought their freedom in good time and moved their money to Switzerland and off shore destinations and live like everything is like before. Uff. Groce. Money talks and bullshit walks. But I hope you’re all aware that commercial luxury brands are actually sustained by the upper middle class, and not the 1%. These big house haute couture brands that present these over the top fashion shows only have a small select amount of customers who buy. The shows are just marketing for them, they actually rely on us middle class people to dream and strive to want to be apart of this fantasy world they are presenting. So we’ll buy their perfume, cosmetics, accessories, or save up for their ready-to-wear and treat ourselves to the odd bag and pair of shoes.. These items that we upper middle class individuals buy are what sustain these high end luxury fashion brands.

This sort of luxury is very un-chique, to borrow a french term. Only the new rich from oil states in middle east and Russia really keep parisian elite designer brands going.
IMHO, the lesson learned by those whove grown up with wealth, and whose parents grew up with security (eg, from the nordics, japan, parts of the US and western Europe- or old money families) can appreciate the luxury and talent available locally in their own countries, and dont feel the need to show off by wasting money on this Parisian “luxury” on a regular basis. At least thats my view as someone with an unusual upbringing, growing up in Lithuania to parents from Finland and the USA. Im living in Finland now, and I feel secure that if my ADHD brain forgets my bag on a park bench- itll be there, or at the police w money in wallet, and im thoroughly enjoying myself discovering all the local high end boutiques which to me, r much cooler than these french ones- cuz theyre truly unique and v high quality designs made by my own countrymen with their own unique take on luxury- more modern, sleek design that can shine when worn out everyday, not a brand that marks u as a target cuz everyone knows them, who charge obscene prices (ehem- hermes) for stuff that can be bought much cheaper at the same exact quality when u seek out local designers..
Obv everyone likes special unique and exclusive things, but the clientele frequenting these Parisian places, as well as those who own them, are ppl who dont value luxury so much as the brand; both of the bag and of France itself (like that georgian lady who could only imagine her shop in Paris- and obv Parisians r invested in making these third world/post communist nouveau rich believe the hype); its sad how coming from an insecure society can destroy a nation’s confidence, like my ex homeland Lithuania, plagued by its history of insecurity and poverty- are obsessed with the shiny big logos of french n italian brands and dont really even try to foster local artists to create equally original and lux things, instead just buy into the french elites biases and lies of being THE home of ‘haute couture’ (even the words for it remain french); despite how everything these women bought to me seems tired, done, un-wearable closet filler, for them to show their guests on house tours - they base their self esteem on a foreign cultures product. Its a competition to see who can get the most hermes bags- in Vilnius’s few ‘exclusive’ designer boutiques, unless ur dressed head to toe in LV n Gucci, staff act astonishingly snobby and rude, giving total ignore often followed by frowning stares, til they get a phonecall and find out who just walked into their shop, as was my experience going shopping w my parents on my moms bday, we dress totally regular, esp my dad who likes comfy sweats despite being among the elite- hes an american at heart and doesnt give a crap n neither does my mom, we just wanted a nice bday gift. It’s revolting to me

This is the basics of common sense and education. We teach small children to use magic words to educate them and equip them with tools to develop social skills and survive in life. I wonder whether this is common in France and whether it is a cultural thing. I remember a very well travelled man who shared with me that some people don't like to use the magic words, such as the Spanish people. Now I can see it with the French too. Saying a simple 'thank you' sometimes makes a huge difference and it is a sign of having customer service skills.

It is not accurate to say that France as a whole hates the wealthy, as attitudes towards wealth and success can vary among individuals and within different social and political groups. However, there are certain cultural, historical, and political factors that may contribute to a perception of animosity towards the wealthy in France:
    1. Historical context: France has a long history of revolutions and movements aimed at challenging class inequality and the privileges of the wealthy elite. Events such as the French Revolution, which sought to overthrow the monarchy and aristocracy, have left a legacy of skepticism towards concentrated wealth and power.
    2. Social values: French society has a strong tradition of promoting equality, solidarity, and social welfare. There is a cultural emphasis on providing social protections and benefits for all citizens, which can sometimes lead to a perception that excessive wealth is at odds with these values.
    3. High taxes and wealth redistribution: France has a progressive tax system that places a relatively heavy burden on high-income earners. The government redistributes wealth through social programs and services, which can create a perception that the wealthy are not paying their fair share or are benefiting unfairly from the system.
    4. Public opinion and media portrayal: Some segments of the French population, as well as certain media outlets and political figures, may criticize or demonize the wealthy for perceived greed, excess, or insensitivity to the struggles of others. This can contribute to a narrative of conflict or antagonism between social classes.
    5. Economic disparities: Like many countries, France grapples with income inequality and economic disparities that can fuel resentment towards the wealthy. Perceptions of unfairness or privilege among the wealthy elite can breed resentment among those who feel left behind or disadvantaged.
It is important to recognize that these factors do not apply universally to all individuals in France, and attitudes towards wealth and success can be nuanced and multifaceted. While there may be tensions or conflicts related to wealth inequality in French society, it is not accurate to claim that France as a whole hates the wealthy.
