    Dexter had it all-great sound and knew where to place the notes. With Kenny Drew on piano you have perfection.

    You both have it wrong. The drummer is Makaya Ntshoko. I believe he is/was African. He was active in the European jazz scene in the 1960s and 1970s. I have no idea if he is still alive. This film was shot at the Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen, Denmark. Gordon's discography lists it as from 1969. The two tunes filmed were "Those Were the Days" and "Fried Bananas," a Gordon original. Also according to the discography, the film was shot by Flip Film Productions of Denmark.

      Makaya is living in Basel Switzerland, I saw him live about 4 years ago and he sounded beautiful, like a minimalist, very different than in this recording... so interesting to hear him sounding so intense!

    how are they getting the camera to move with him like that?

    • @kasperrghat4318
      @kasperrghat4318 6 лет назад

      Well, it is a handheld 16mm camera. The cameraman moves along with Dexter to keep in focus. The clips from the audience are inserts to cover the moments it takes to change a film cassette. A B-camera is employed at the end. But there have also been a digital stabilizing - you can tell by the jumping credits and the logo in the upper corner.

    Who know those chords played by Kenny Drew in the tune "Fried Bananas" in this video ? His chords are far different from "It could happen to you " .

    • @SuperGarden78
      @SuperGarden78 6 лет назад

      Kenny Drew is one of the best jazz pianoplayers of his time, he clashes a great deal with Dexter and by that reason you don't hear that kind of playing on record very often. It's sounds like he lead his chords with the melody, he just smash around like he doesn't care a lot about Dexter.

      Absolutely not.. Stitt was a alto saxophonist the most.. And the ways they played was so different, the ways they improvise: I wonder how one could find thay are the same :-0

    •  4 года назад +3

      ?!?!?!?!?! Stitt sounded very much like Charlie Parker. Gordon had this rich tone, while Coltrane had a thin sound and brighter. Very different. You need to do more listening. Now!
