Tom MacDonald is one of the few artists with integrity. He's not up for sale. It takes so much guts nowadays to speak the truth. Mad respect for him.

Tom has a wild back story.
I apologize for this long post. I got comment diarrhea (gross symbolism, sorry).
If any of my phrases seem weird, feel free to ask (I am a 62 year old Hispanic American - 2nd gen - and I sometimes use slang from when I was your age, a long, long time ago).
***Personal Opinion on Tom***:
I think part of the anger Tom has towards the corporate music industry is due him buying into the message presented by rappers. He wound up depressed, messed up on alcohol and came close to suicide.
This is also the first song that went viral and triggered how he came up.

He couldn’t pay his bills AND was evicted, living on the street until he went back and lived at his mom’s for 9 months, fully disconnected from the world, not even interacting with other humans, contemplating suicide on the daily.

He finally made his way back and has nothing nice to say about the music industry labels or the message they push to the mainstream. He will not compromise and had no choice but to be truly independent. His music is also his therapy for the darkness of the depression and anxiety - that monster never goes away, I know because I’ve tried to kill the one lurking in my shadows.

His spoken word joints are also good for backstory.
As you react to more of Tom’s tracks, im sure you’ll seen why there are 3 groups of people that listen to Tom’s tracks:
1. The haters. Never gonna change and the #hangovergang will always just wave🖕🏽🖕🏿🖕🏼

3. We are people that have done battle with our own demons, such as alcohol, drugs, other addictions and depression. Many of us have even been close to suicide but we kept hanging on (ruclips.net/video/MDqKX_lgrQ0/видео.html). We still fight our demons but we refuse to give them power over us. While Tom’s music is therapy for him, it’s also a source of strength for us. The thing that gives us the greatest power over the darkness is knowing we are not alone. That is why we are part of the #hangovergang, we will never be alone, there is strength in numbers.
Lastly, some things I’ve learned after flipping the bird to Death 3 times:
*: Life is full of absurdity. When non-critical shit happens (I.e. bought the wrong car part or the car part breaks), treat it is as an absurdity and laugh your ass off at it. That takes all the power away from absurdities. Things like dyslexia are also absurdities (I have it bad but joke about it because, well you know, it’s ABSURD!).
PS: If Life gives you melons, you might be dyslexic.
*: Life is a grand adventure. And, just like any roller coaster, there are scary parts and there are the thrills. All you have to remember is to Hold On Tight and enjoy the ride. Substances like alcohol and drugs don’t enhance the adventure, they will however, muddy the experience.
*: You are not alone. No matter what struggles or challenges you may face, others have been there. There is no shame in the struggle, it’s what makes us stronger, like lifting weights. As we lift more, we get stronger but, there is a time when every weight lifter takes on a little more than they can safely handle and they ask someone to be a spotter, just in case. The only shame in life is when we are trying to “lift” more than we are able, but do not seek help from a spotter. There are lots of people who are willing to serve as a “spotter” when asked.

it was not a Em diss... Tom credit Em for saving his life, with music... Tom even won a beat from Em when Em had an NFT auction and the beat was called "Stan's Revenge" so Tom made a song called "Dear Slim" out of it where it's all a tribute to Em, from the car in the Em song Stan, the room, the hair color, the outfit and more...

Tom didn't diss Em. Em was a major influence in his life. This was my introduction to Tom's music. It let me know I wasn't alone in seeing what has been happening to our country. Excellent reaction.

Get ready for a flood of comments! We are #hangovergang, and were are hella strong! Tom speaks fact, and he ain't scared. He talks about things that no one else talks about...mental health, social/racial issues, the way the music industry rips off these artists after they sign a contract, political division and other nonsense. You name it, he covers it. He isnt left or right, but he pokes holes in both sides' logic by presenting common sense views. He is Canadian, but he has lived in LA for about 8 years now. He is 100% independent, no label at all. He does it all...writes his lyrics, makes his beats, records his songs at home. His girl Nova Rockafella shoots his videos and he builds all the sets himself. His friend Evan mixes and masters all of Tom's music, so he iwns his masters, also. Nova raps, too, and she is a straight-up BEAST on the mic!
Tom had a LOT of songs that are good/great. I suggest starting at the song that really started to get him noticed "Dear Rappers." You won't regret going through Tom's entire catalogue.

I'm an "old white male" (56) who detests rap music and its whole culture. I've never heard of this guy or basically any rapper except for maybe Eminem and snoop dog and a few others who have kinda crossed over into the mainstream...(for instance I know there's a "Chance the rapper" but I couldn't tell you anything about him or his music). I'm just not a rap fan. But I listened to this review and I thought his song was awesome. It speaks the truth about whats going on in our country and we better come together or our great nation will fall. I also love your reaction to his music and you (and your husband) seem like such a great,genuine people. Keep up the good work!
I didn't listen to rap before I heard Tom MacDonald 3 years ago. Now I'm a huge Tom fan and never miss a release. You should check out Tom's catalog. I now listen to other rappers occasionally.
I felt exactly the same way you did about rap until I found Tom. And then was slowly introduced to the independent Army as I call them. Fast forward two years and my playlist is now majority rap and Country ( which started thanks to Upchurch). The two genres I never had on my playlist🤷♀️🤔 at this point I found approximately 40 artists that are keeping it real and taught me to appreciate rap as long as they keep the true meaning of Rhythm and poetry. Too many people forget the Poetry aspect
